Bullsh't.

This was the 16th ranked team in the preseason.
Had a QB that was getting plenty of first round hype.
And one of only 15 teams in the country that had that magical blue chip ratio > 50%.

Yeah, about that...

You don't need a Bama-caliber roster to beat average teams like UNC or Texas A&M. You need that kind of talent to win championships, not money games against Middle Tennessee State.

Coming into the season most fans expected us to lose 3-4 games a year. The way we're playing this year, we're staring 6-7 losses in the face. This is no surprise as Cristobal routinely lost to teams he shouldn't have at Oregon. He's not a good coach, and the way he views football (run-heavy, slow paced) leaves little margin for error.

Hopefully he has an epiphany and changes the way he views football. Even with a talent advantage over 90% of the teams we play, X's and O's will matter.
Those are good points, but I will counter with this. Failure to recruit at one position can destroy a team's hopes, regardless of the overall blue chip strength. Miami still had a strong defense in 2006. They (in theory) had an extremely high blue chip ratio at RB, TE, and QB. But Larry Coker failed to recruit wide receivers. Not just blue chip players, but sheer bodies. We started the year with just six scholarship wide receivers and we were down to 3 healthy wide receivers by the midpoint of the season (we started 5-2), and we were only 1-4 the rest of the way.

Now let's look at this year's team, because I've done a lot of posting on blue chip ratios and overall numbers. We're strong at TE and RB, on paper. We're strong at safety. We're strong at quarterback. Here's where we are not strong at.

OFFENSIVE LINE:
Jalen Rivers0.9425
Delone Scaife0.9378
Laurence Seymore0.9248
Michael McLaughlin0.8938
Ryan Rodriguez0.8851
John Campbell0.8804
Matthew McCoy0.8719
Jonathan Denis0.8600
Chris Washington0.8552
Anez Cooper0.8541
Logan Sagapolu0.8500
Ousman Traore0.8500
Justice Oluwaseun0.8400
Zion Nelson0.8395
Jakai Clark0.8364

CORNERBACK:
Al Blades0.9556
Khamauri Rogers0.9525
Chris Graves0.9365
Isaiah Dunson0.8958
Te'Cory Couch0.8954
D.J. Ivey0.8926
Tyrique Stevenson0.8900
Daryl Porter Jr.0.8900
Jadem Harris0.8819
Malik Curtis0.8572

With a weak offensive line, strengths at quarterback and running back are negated. With insufficient recruiting at cornerback, the defense as a whole is affected.

The problem with these discussions, and the board in general really, is it can only be one extreme or another. Player X is either really good or total trash--nothing situational, nothing in the middle. It's the same with this debate. Yes, Mario needs better guys, there is no debate. We have some good players, but it ain't enough. That is a completely fair statement, but it is also fair to say he had no business losing to MTSU under any circumstances. Any.

I thought it was funny how you complained about things being extreme, but when it comes to MTSU, "he" lost the game.

All that $$$$$ spent by the school to attempt to turn the program around bought a coach and staff not a national championship. Mario deserves the same courtesy granted all the past fails. Mario can out recruit those past coaches. Players will make the difference as coach Coker proved. Mario walked in to a fail to begin with.

I think you guy all need to face the fact that Mario is a program floor raiser. Your new floor when he’s done will be about 9 wins. His ceiling is capped tho. He’s not a great game day coach. He just isn’t.

Bro coulda won with Lane for 3-4 years and......STILL gotten Mario after Lane went to the nfl or got caught with strippers and a monkey in thailand.

The real loss im down on was MTSU though...i had TX AM AND UNC as losses b4 the szn. I cant believe i literaly sat their in dispair and watch that entire game in a daze on my tv.

And you will again. I started it with mines

Typical south Florida class. Nice quick edit.

Keep defending those south Florida stud players at Miami and FIU. Real winners. Notice how we're going outside of our own area, finally.

None of these former players know sh*t. They are the reason we had COKER, Shannon, and now...Cristobal.

Get rid of the best players in the country and get...who?. Im all for recruiting Nationally....in fact i give the particular cities we should recruit. How about we coach better, develop better and put these kids in better position to win. Any time we lose its SOUTH FLORIDA this South florida that...i mean sh*t we are being led by a qb from Connecticut currently, and a linebacker from Houston on defense.

We BEEN going outside of our own area....we just dont land the better players outside of our areas either.

Which players im defending though?. You should hear me on the gameday board.

We dont develop any body because we have and have had poor coaches. Dont matter if the kid was from Opa Locka or Anchorage ALaska.

South Florida has the best high school football players in the country this isnt an opinion this is FACT. Sooooooo...stop recruiting your base and get rid of the ones on the team because our HC wants to run a prehistoric offense?.

I edited the stupid *** portion because it may have came off rough.

Why are you a fan of Univ of Miami if you have South Florida d*ck envy?. Which you seem to do.." typical south florida class" comment

id be okay if he gave us what richt gave UGA for the next 9 seasons. it at least sets UM up for the next guy to come in and take it to another level. also, consistent success (9-10 yearly) continues to bring in more fan support in terms of dollars, interest, etc. well get frustrated over the next 9 if thats the case but if you average a 10 win season a year, youre the best coach we've had since butch
Catch lightning in a bottle with the right coordinators and players and you may get the occasional season like LSU a couple of years back.

all these other schools can develop the same kids but somehow we can't. if surtain had come here, would he have the same career as he did at Bama? same w Tyson Campbell at UGA?

How many yards did you have to run?

This doesn’t look like fun
also you dont pay top 10 money for fun. id rather the school spend it on L and academics at that point and continue w cheap coaches who get the sam results

If this years team played last years team it would be the worst football game in ncaa history. Somehow both teams would lose and both coaches would make excuses or not show up to interviews.

Keep going to the games though. Am i right?
I went last Sat...and left early....thoroughly disgusted. I might be done for the season. I hit the Titanic around 8:30pm...and ate Sriracha Wings till my Nausea came back...

@RiDLer80 so what is Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida and Auburns excuses?

....plain and simple.. bad coRching
I didn't absolve the talent nor the coaching. I'm not saying this is a palyoff-caliber roster. It's not. I expected 3-4 losses this season--partly due to the roster and partly because I do not believe in Cristobal as a coach. Realistically this should've been a 2-loss team with what we came into the season with. We may end up with 6 this season after this poor start.

We need to upgrade the talent without a doubt. Cristobal also needs to be a better coach. The way he looks at offense limits the team. His offensive identity doesn't maximize the talent we have on offense. His gameday coaching is not top notch either.

For the record, I haven't given up on Cristobal. What I've seen raises red flags and gives me Enos flashbacks. Hopefully Cristobal evolves his mentality or else we can expect death struggles versus less talented teams for his entire tenure and 1-2 frustrating losses per season to inferior teams.
