Mario Cristobal: The Cuban Al Golden

For all of our fans falling all over themselves to hire this guy, allow me to present some painful facts:

- He has a career head coaching record of 35-52.
- He’s coached 7 full seasons in his career.
- He’s NEVER won 9 games.
- He’s never been a coordinator (ONE year as a Co-OC)
- He was fired from FIU after winning 3 games in his sixth season.
- Butch just won 9 games at FIU in year 2.

Just a few comparisons to some other candidates being discussed who have head coaching experience:

Mike Leach:
- Leach went 57-31 in his first 7 seasons
- Two seasons with 9+ wins during that time

Matt Campbell:
- Campbell went 54-33 in his first 7 seasons
- Three seasons with 9+ wins during that time

Dino Babers:
- Babers went 55-35 in his first 7 seasons
- Theee seasons with 10+ wins during that time

Mario is another CEO:
Mario does not have a side of the ball he specializes in. He isn’t some defensive wizard, or a cutting edge offensive guru. He makes his name being an intense guy that people think can recruit. He did his recruiting while running around with an A slapped on his polo asking kids if they wanted to play for Nick Saban. I ask, is that a difficult task?

- Cristobal is yet another CEO that would require two ace coordinator hires.
- He is not some innovative brilliant X and O guy.
- We wouldn’t be able to leave one side of the ball completely under his watch.
- His recruiting prowess mostly comes from recruiting for Nick Saban and the top program.
- We’ve learned the last few years talent isn’t enough.
- As a head coach, he’a failed to do the one thing he’s supposed to: win.

Hmmm.
A guy that people say is high energy, a good recruiter, but would come to Miami with a losing record and doesn’t have a track record of being elite on one side of the ball as a coordinator... sound familiar?

Don’t make the same mistake twice: just say no.

I'm a Cristobal fan, but **** you make a compelling argument!

We're going to need to root for Cristobal to turn us down....cause he's exactly the type of lazy hire our admins are going to jump all over.

He just convinced his star QB to come back for another season, even for a guy like Mario that would a dirt bag move at this juncture.

You conveniently left out the part where he was groomed by Nick Saban

I agree with everything except his recruiting being good just at Bama. He just signed a top 5 class at Oregon coming off an 8 win season. He would probably kill it down here in recruiting. Just not sure about the coaching part.

Its called Nike...that is why he has top 5 right now

All I’ll say is Dabo is a CEO, reason Richt CEO didn’t work is because he wanted to handle the whole Offense, that does not equal a good CEO. I don’t care if Mario doesn’t know crap about O or D and hires a bunch of guys that do and allows them to coach. He will recruit and hopefully bring some SEC dudes with him

Doesn't even come close to outweighing all the possible negatives. Leave Mario in the Pacific NW
What the **** is “groomed by Nick Saban”?

A guy like Nick Saban doesn’t get to his position by offering up his knowledge and wisdom to some ******* from Miami he brought specifically to land one or two elite recruits per season.

Yup. This board never ceases to amaze me.
