Mario built this Oregon team or did he?

You know Cribby. Mario would have Oregon running the ball 65% of the time..taking very few chances..sitting on leads....few explosive pass plays. Say what you want about Mario's recruiting prowess but he never lands blue chip Qbs or wrs. He gets a rb here and there.
No stud wrs? What was Ray Ray? Robbie Washington?
Jo Jo? Ny carr?

Hes landed a stud rb every year. Citizen(got hurt), mark, Kevin Riley

Also the he never runs the ball doesn’t make sense when we have 3 wrs over 500 yards and two of the top 3 in acc with a qb who had a mental breakdown.

No proto typical x or difference making guy. That guy in this class would be J. Smith. Big strong explosive field stretcher who can make contested catches as well. Team likes Washington and LSU have multiple. We end up with slots who make a few plays here and there but no one any one has to double or game plan for or that truly changes games. You think teams scheming to take George or X out of games? Multiple guys with 500 yds tells me you don't have any elite.giys you just spread it around. You see them consistently beating the press or were there many games where they looked like they couldnt uncover? Every time I see Young a dB is in to his jersey like he knows what route he's running.

Look at Oregon..who has Mario sent to the league at wr? The guys that catch and make explosive plays at oregon are kids Lanning brought in. Mario gets backs and plays the big strong north south back and runs inside zone 30x a game in to the same gap. We have to do better.

Dan Lanning walked into a great situation and hasn’t messed it up.

He appears to be a solid head coach.

Or should we stay consistent and say winning at Oregon doesn’t really count because it doesn’t count for Mario?

P.S. If Lanning were here many would be be calling him a Corch for his late game management.

p.P.s. Next time can you just say “ I don’t like Mario” so I don’t have to read so much?
Amen

the whole point of this thread is to **** on our HC and claim he shouldn't get credit for a team's success or roster when he hasn't been there in two years despite him not attempting to take any credit for it?

Mario was richt at UGA, set Oregon up perfectly for someone to come in and take it to the next level

Mario won 2 pac 12 titles, it's all roses now for Oregon fans talking bad about Mario but if Washington beats them again next week and Lanning doesn't win the pac 12 title again ... we'll see how people start to feel

either way a pointless topic, in the days of the transfer portal - most teams have changed over significantly in the last two years, especially teams that have had a coaching change

Oregon as a program had already been to the next level. Mario didn't set up Oregon for someone to take them to the next level. At most he got them back on track.

Mario signed Troy Franklin their leading WR, and 1000 yard WR.

Narratives will eventually end.

I've seen a lot of them.

Clemsoning, well until they got good enough to go on a dominant stretch.

Kirby Smart is Mark Richt, can't beat Alabama, well until they got good enough to win back to back NC's.

Harbaugh can't beat Ohio State. Well until they physically whipped them 3 years in a row.

Mario is 5-10 in the ACC, Diaz won 5 out of his last 6 ACC game.

I think he does a pretty good job of discrediting himself. If you are worse then the "little beta man child Manny" that kind of says something.
Let’s see if this narrative is the same next year and following. If you can’t differentiate how the two built their programs that kind of says something.

Through more resources, a real AD, larger staff and unprecedented investment…

Hopefully he adapts his coaching and portal use and wins games

Stay tuned.

Ironically, Helfrich was fired just a couple years after this game. I believe he was the only HC to get fired in decades at Oregon. He left that program in a bad place.

It will be interesting to see what Lanning can do after he has all his players. Something tells me he will bounce before that happens.

That offense was fun offense to watch in this game.

Waiting for the mopes to backpedal any minute now. Or more likely, not show back up here.

We have the worst among us.

The truth is in the middle. Mario left Oregon in a much better place with talent than anytime in the programs history. Most coaches first gigs are after coaches were fired and they’re taking over a mess. That job was very much appealing for Lanning. But Lanning did take the roster and production on field to another level than Mario. Ironically the defensive coach solved all the holes with the offense , bringing in a good OC and qb.

This is the most accurate post in the thread
