Malik Rosier on why TVD should start vs UNC

What Rosier said just makes it worse for TVD. MTSU ran a simple defense. .

According to MiamiFlo on YouTube, Jake missed throws as well. Jake threw the ball away when guys were open. Jake did move the team though. TVD didn't.

Jake and TVD split practice snaps with the 1's.

I think TVD starts, but has a very short leash.

TVD was ACC rookie of year, projected 1st round pick, and even considered Heisman darkhose by some. You spend bye week re-crafting offense around Lashlee's pass concepts. Script out first couple drives with his fav pass concepts. More RPO, more tempo, more spacing. Give him first 3-4 series.

If he ***** the bed for a 5th time after tailoring offense directly to him, then you put in Garcia (who you also scripted drives for with his fav pass concepts/plays over bye week) and ride rest of the game with Garcia.

Bench TVD now and you destroy him. So if Jake ain't it, this season is a 4-8 wrap (if that)

From Rosier's interview:

“I try to help him with footwork, whatever they teach him – I don’t teach him how many steps, just help him whether it’s `stand up taller,’ `left hand at the right side of your face,’ simple things like that which I can see,” Rosier, who works with QB Country Tampa, told CaneSport. “We didn’t talk about everything he was thinking about decision-wise, it was more about showing coaches you deserve to be out there, working on some things and how to go about things.”

Rosier doesn’t get into the specifics of any particular mechanical issues he’s helping Van Dyke fix, but what he does share is that “Some of it is mental. He has to get comfortable. A lot of it is being comfortable. It is a little bit different of an offense (going from Rhett Lashlee to Josh Gattis), and how they do stuff. It really is simple fixes, it’s not like he’s doing anything crazy bad. He just has to be conscious of a couple of pointers. For the most part he’s a little to the left, a little to the right. We cleaned that up (Sunday) – there’s balls he missed that he’ll be on the money with now.”

“With Tyler this week it was a mental thing, and I was through it with N’Kosi,” Rosier said. “We talked about `You get an opportunity, execute.’ Tyler has the talent and arm strength, he can make every throw in the offense. It’s `Execute every play Gattis calls, run or pass, take it one play at a time and get comfortable.’ Getting comfortable, that’s a big thing.”

So what does Rosier think Miami should do moving forward?
Well he believes the Canes should give Van Dyke another game to prove himself. And not a game where he’s going to be looking over his shoulder every play or series.
“You tell Tyler `This is your team, this is your game, but this is our standard,’” Rosier said. “That performance that happened against Middle Tennessee State can never happen again. And if it does then it’s Jake’s team. It’s a lot easier to give Tyler one more chance and go to Garcia if need be. You can tell Jake we want to give Tyler one last chance, let Tyler show if he can be a starter but be ready in a moment’s notice.
“My biggest thing is I wouldn’t pull Tyler out. How many games this year have you seen 4th quarter comebacks? And Tyler plays better in the second half than the first.
“And you can’t have it where if he starts badly early you’re yanking him. Because then he feels threading-the-needle throws, he’s not going to throw those because he’ll be nervous if his ball is picked or not caught am I going to get benched.”

why does anyone care what rosier says here man? You know who has been working with TVD a lot? Rosier. Has TVD gotten better in that time?

“They like to run a lot of comeback, stop routes, and a lot of crossers, which is a lot different (from Lashlee),” Rosier said. “Last year we threw a little more go. I think Gattis does a good job of attacking, just he attacks a little differently. It’s `we’re going to play more the sticks’ like Mark Richt did. Third and 5, Richt is going to run an eight-yard route, and that’s Gattis’ philosophy. Lashlee it’s one route to the sticks, everything else is go or 15 yards out. And a lot of Gattis’ stuff is predicted off the run game.

“But Gattis does also stretch the field vertically, they’ve done some flea flickers, hit (Elijah) Arroyo on some wheel routes. I think the offensive staff understands the receivers’ struggles. As a coach you’re going to be more reserved, keep routes within 15 yards instead of airing it out because of that. With that said I do think at some point they need to air it out a little more. Being a year 1 staff, trying to change not only scheme but culture, I think he’s doing a good job of doing the best he can.”

Rosier was asked about the two passes thrown at the beginning of the game that turned into interceptions:

“I know fans aren’t going to like me saying it, but I was with him. The only thing I might have done differently is throw to the outside receiver because the cornerback kind of squatted. The corner made a really good play on what should have been an easy five-yar completion. The guy did a good job of film study, said if this guy runs out there’s a good likelihood the other guy will run an out, too.

“The second one just unfortunate, a guy got his hands up and made a good play on the ball.”

narratives are fun to talk about on message board but look no further than the NFL to see the difference that scheme & play calling can make on QBs
Tua & Hurts were being talked about being busts as recently as this offseason & Lawrence has struggled mightily in the past seasons. something didnt just click. different styles work better for different qbs. hurts look pedestrian under pederson, new HC & all things are clicking now. so pederson is the problem then, right? of course he goes to jacksonville n lawrence looks like what we were used to seeing in clemson.

lashley is not here anymore so w/e tvd did with that offense means nothing now. if other players look better running that offense, then they deserve the opportunity. there's a reason why the stadium erupted when they put Garcia in. i personally can't see how you start TVD against UNC at home after what just happened. what do you think fans are gonna do if he goes 3 n out or throws another pick? starting him vs UNC after benching him against the mighty blue raiders will look like an incompetent mismanagement of the position like Flores did to Tua IMO.
Good points

What do Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman say? They draw more parallels to the current sitution than Malik does.

Regardless of who starts it is up to Gattis to IMPROVE his play design to "unbunch" the route trees, give the WR's TE's some space to work, and have some viable check downs that are actually in the direction of the first down markers and not behind the LOS. Give the guys some room to try and "shake and bake" instead of being forced to run into a freaking wall on every down. Gattis can't just go out there and keep running the same plays / route designs he has used so far. If TVD gets the start ... Gattis needs to be sure he is running a "Lashlee esqe" offense to some degree. Give HIM the reins ... let him go up tempo and call what HE wants to call. That's what worked last year. Give him the half ... if it's the same inaccurate / staring down WR's and totally missing receivers ... Jake takes over at the half and you don't look back. Hate to see TVD playing the way he is ... has to be killing him, his family, the coaches. If HE can't adjust to an "adjusted or corrected" scheme then he can't continue to be the starter. But Gattis' responsibility in this is HUGE. Got to believe Gattis is gone at the end of this year.

In case y'all wondering if Rosier has any hidden agenda in pushing for TVD to play...

edit: I got no problem with TVD n I'll never personally attack players. I do have a problem with those in social media that try to build narratives for their own hidden agendas, rather than just going what's best for the school

Also, love how every player from that era is absolutely merciless when it comes to Corch No'D. Haven't seen or met one guy from that time that has anything good to say about him.

I'm concerned that Mario is going to stick with TVD who will continue struggle in this offense, and then Garcia will get fed up/frustrated and transfer. That would be the worst case scenario. I don't expect Garcia to be a silver bullet that magically cures what ails this offense, but from what we've seen so far he looks more comfortable in the offense than TVD does. TVD is completely broken.
So basically a Justin fields Jake Fromm situation

Let’s remember that Jake got hurt last year and probably could have done exactly what Tyler did in that one read quick spread our offense

I agree. I’ve changed my stance on this after sleeping on it.

TVD should start

I wouldn't lose my **** like half the board would. Give him a chance.....but a short leash. Fvck it we wouldn't be the first team to use two QB's.
