Coral Gables, Fla.— The NCAA has completely flipped the landscape of college sports on its head after announcing that Divisions I and II eligibility rules will change beginning in the 2026-27 academic year.

These new rules will allow student athletes to become eligible for 5 seasons.

As these rules begin to settle, student athletes across collegiate athletics, specifically ones that graduated from the high school class of 2022, are hitting the judicial system to earn that final year of NCAA sports.

According to the Field of 68 earlier this afternoon, new state lawsuit for eligibility has been filed in South Carolina, with 17 men’s basketball players, including Miami’s star Forward Malik Reneau, looking to gain that final season.





In his lone campaign with the Hurricanes in 2025, Reneau recorded 13.4 PPG, 5.4 REB, and 1.9 AST, earning 1st Team All ACC honors and helping lead Miami to their first NCAA Tournament win since 2023.



Malik went undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft but spent time with the Orlando Magic for this past Summer League.

If granted eligibility, the South Beach South Paw would be a welcome addition to an already loaded Miami roster, including returning sophomores Shelton Henderson and Dante Allen, alongside highly coveted Portal adds like Acaden Lewis and Somto Cyril.

 

This would be massive. I think if you add Reneau to this roster we can win the league and make some serious noise in the tournament.

You forgot about DeSean Goode who is projected to be our starting PF right now. If Malik comes back, Jai will have an interesting decision to make; however it should be relatively simple: we need to take something from the other UM by playing a supersized lineup; that’s to say Dante shouldn’t start.

Only thing I’m unsure of is if DeSean Goode and Shelton Henderson have enough ball handling abilities to adequately relieve Acaden. Given that Goode is a better shooter than Shelton, Malik, and Dante (unless they’ve rapidly improved): it’s hard for me to envision any starting lineup without him.

While Malik was the go to guy last year, chemistry can get tricky if they handle this the wrong way. We only return three players and one of them isn’t even playing.

I know the positions dont exactly match up, but im having a hard time sitting Goode and Gaskin for dante allen. I like allen but i think in a 6th man roll.

And this is already a fairly big team. Not in height but weight.

I think that we will be able to match Floridas physicality either way. Add Malik and this game becomes really interesting.
