No they both got 2-way spots immediately after the draft. Would be dumb for either of them to do that. They’re both going to be playing on playoff teams this year; and each team has them setup to replace an older player on the roster (Dru Smith & Thomas Bryant) within the next 2 years. 2-way spots are worth 650k. Playing on a gleague squad is about 50k with housing and some nutrition perks

No he did not. If he had a 2-way spot, the magic would’ve played him a lot more in their summer league. The magic have one open roster spot and all three of their 2-way spots filled.
If he was so impressive in training camp that they had to sign him, they likely would’ve elevated one of their 2way guys to the regular roster and given Malik that 2-way spot. Or, would’ve cut one of their 2way guys and signed Malik to his spot. Teams often start the season with 14 guys on their roster for strategic cap flexibility and other uncertainties to be addressed after the first 15-25 games.
Malik signed an exhibit-10 which is a training camp invite. He actually would’ve earned just under 150k if he stuck with the magic’s g league affiliate for 60 days or more after getting waived in the preseason. He also could’ve gotten cut before training camp and stuck playing in the gleague for 50k.

On evanmiya website their roster currently ranks around top 10. With reneau back its a top 3 roster on his site. They move ahead of illinois and into the florida, duke tier for pure roster talent. Hes the difference between s16 and natty contender.
