When you set the bar that high at your press conference you can’t trot out Major Applewhite as your leading candidate. A guy that’s failed, has been fired, and has been mediocre far more than he’s succeeded. C’mon, let’s be real. It’s a MAJOR letdown (pun intended)

How will you know that he’s identified a wizard if you can’t name any of them?

For example, this board would probably freak out if we heard that Gleason guy from Princeton, even though he could be some X’s & O’s savant.

I WANT manny to succeed. We NEED manny to succeed, but the man can’t stake his career on the strength of Applewhite as OC. He’s not the guy.

many people agree with you . the biggest challenge for Diaz was fixing the offense and his OC will probably be his most
important decision as HC .
 
As it stands it sounds like this is a done deal. There’s something in Applewhite that Manny sees as propelling our stagnant offense forward into the 21st century. Including becoming a factor in games as such that it might take the enormous pressure off of the defense, especially in a rebuilding year, for once in I don’t know 10-15yrs? I’m not saying Major will field a Top 10 offense but if he can get us in the Top 25-30, coupled with our defense; we will easily win the Coastal and at minimum 10 games. That’s good enough to play in the ACCCG, possibly win it, or lose but play in a NY6 bowl game further advancing the program and making it credible in the eyes of the masses/fans/media. Maybe after we get to that point we can ***** about his offensive performance because honestly, no one knows how he will fair with So Fl athletes until he does the job.

Rice OC 2006: 59
Bama OC 2007: 76
Texas co-OC 2011: 54
Texas co-OC 2012: 40
Texas co-OC 2013: 65
Houston OC 2015: 20
Houston OC 2016: 41
Houston HC 2017: 40
Houston HC 2018: 7 (Briles only season with Houston)

Which of these appears to be the outlier? You're being disingenuous if you're not giving Briles all the credit for Houston's offense this season.

Houston was ranked #40 In 2017 actually.

And if you did just a bit of research you'd see they were elite that year when D'Eriq King was at QB, and struggled when he was hurt. Most teams struggle without their starting QB

Dax Prescott qb coach (Brian Johnson) that was with him for multiple years was hired in 2017 to call plays under applewhite and it wasn’t as good as in the past 2 years. It didn’t work out obviously, he then hired Kendal Briles and Randy clements(oline run game coordinator) and they improved immensely from the playcalling of Brian Johnson

Applewhite actually took over playcalling from BJ halfway through 2017 and their offense got much better. Just look at the games.

I agree they continued to improve with Briles

Nope, Herman had the system, he taught it to applewhite and then applewhite did well in those 2 years calling plays for Herman

Yes, he gets credit for that one year when he finally cracked the top 30.

But how do you give Applewhite credit for this season when it is well-documented that this was Briles' offense and he called plays? The only credit Applewhite gets for 2018 is having the balls to bring Briles back to the state of Texas and coordinate Houston's offense.

so as OC or HC his last 4 years are 20, 40, 41, 7.

And yet he's a terrible hire? lol. If he replicates even close to that here we'll win a lot of games.

But hey, a lot of CIS would be happier if we hired Lincoln Riley's towel boy
 
You are misusing failing forward as a phrase. It is a positive concept of learning from failure to become a success. Here is a good Forbes quote “Failure isn’t fatal; in fact, it is actually REQUIRED for innovation success—as long as you don’t freak out, make catastrophic mistakes or (ironically) fail to learn from it.” Perhaps choose a new phrase that better captures your negative intentions toward Applewhite.
