So what does getting Briles do or does that get totally ignored to fit narratives? This makes me question any coach though. How, why, and what was he smoking.

You can't tell these guys nothing.im not defending him but bama in 07 Saban ran a pre historic offense, im sure that was by design from Nick until he killed that ego on O
I think we would see the offense Houston has ran the past few years. There wasn't much change in what they did with him calling plays versus Briles calling the plays. As the former OC being promoted to HC, it doesn't make sense for him to allow Briles to come in and change much offensively. They didn't adjust to Coley, he just changed his play call to slow the game down most of the time because our defense would get gassed. We had a quick offensive series with Coley. Either we went 3-and-out, or we scored off explosive plays. We had 3rd down problems with Coley as OC. I'm not advocating to have him as our OC. I'm saying I'd prefer him over Applewhite because he's a better recruiter and we know what to expect from him and Diaz's strength is his weakness (making adjustments). Also, he won blue chip recruiting battles against FSU (Stacy Coley), Alabama (Chad Thomas), and even a few west coast schools (Brad Kaaya). So how exactly did he suck?
The thing that scares me away from Applewhite is the following:
-He hired D'Onofrio, after Onofrio caused Al Golden to lose his job. (Oh look, Onofrio got 2 head coaches fired now)
-I can't for the life of me figure out what his offensive philosophy is. His time as an OC in Texas was good, and acceptable for a Miami Hurricane offense if he could get that here. But Is that what he'll run? Because that's not what Houston ran under Herman, and it's not what Houston ran under Briles.
-Got fired from 3 different schools now. Including by Nick Saban after 1 year.
Yeah, but that "wrong" DC was a legend. He got fired because he hired the wrong DC
I think we've GOT to improve under Applewhite. How could it be worse? The Pinstripe Bowl was as bad as it gets.I will simply say that it is a gamble if he is the guy. I am speaking strictly as far as his competence as an OC. As a recruiter, he opens up Texas for us as much as anyone ever has and the surrounding areas. He'll get talent here and to me, that is more than half of the battle. So in the end, I feel it'll be a solid hire, but if he stumbles out of the gate that could spell his doom. Gotta get off to a fast start with an offense that is fun and exciting to recruit our local talent base.
And Jimmy Johnson, I'm sure, learned a lot about offense from Gary Stephens.Nick Saban, a defensive coach, learned and took advice from Lane Kiffin.
That's different than saying "surely he's learned from Kiffin" as a hope that he'll be successful here.

OK. Who?Is that your bar? Just eking out incremental improvements with Applewhite from the low of the pinstripe bowl? We’ve seen mediocrity from Applewhite throughout his entire coaching career and the man was fired TWICE for non performance.
No more BS coaches like Applewhite. We can do better and I want us to strive for greatness. We have a get out of **** free card (almost 15 years in ****) and we must cash it in now.
Manny needs a dynamic cutting edge OC. He can not afford average. WE cannot afford average. The program has suffered enough.
OK. Who?
