I don't see how we're just going to ignore that.
- What does Richt have to do with any of this?
- The fact that you forgot Chad Thomas, Kevin Olsen and Brad Kaaya is funny to me. But go on about how he didn't recruit here.
- Yes, he coached THEM 20 years ago, who has Applewhite coached?

so now it’s Golden’s fault that Coleys offense was ranked worse than Applewhites ? Ok lol

We ignore decisions he made as a head coach because we’re not hiring him as a head coach . That’s pretty simple . Or if you don’t want to , he made the equally good decision to hire Briles when not many else would touch him, so call that a wash

I love how people make so many statements as fact, are proved wrong then ignore said point. But still continue defending their argument.

Nick Saban, a defensive coach, learned and took advice from Lane Kiffin.

That's different than saying "surely he's learned from Kiffin" as a hope that he'll be successful here.

So you assume Major didn’t learn anything but if he did then it becomes well why did he need to learn from his OC right? It’s a lose lose type of thing with you cuz somehow you look at it as a negative if he picked up some tricks from a guy he worked with.

If he learned something, then good for him, and great for us. My argument was that hanging your hat on "surely he learned something" is how some of the posters are using in his defense. What is the identity of a Major Applewhite offense is my biggest concern. Is he going to try and mimic Briles? Is he going to fall back on what he learned working under Herman?

Applewhite had Colt McCoy breaking records at Texas under his offense...where was that type of offense in 2017 or 18 for Houston?

I'm optimistic and curious to see what he will do. However, I don't think those questioning this hire are completely wrong. Let's just see how this plays out.
 
Diaz worked with Applewhite at Texas, so he knows what he's getting. He knows his offensive philosophy. Also, if he or whomever is not confusing and stressing defenses, then Diaz will make it very clear, very fast, that things need to change.

How many more threads are we going to start on this? I feel like 99.9% of the topics on MA are being talked about 100 times across the board..We get it..50% like it, 50% hate it..but guess what..if he’s hired he’s one of ours so get behind the man if you are tired of seasons like the one we had last year! I really believe some of y’all want him to fail so yuh can say “TOLD YOU!”. Smh.

Getting someone from Oklahoma, Purdue, or Syracuse that didn’t call plays and isn’t the architect of the offense would have been ok ...

But getting the guy who actually did call plays when Houston was good enough to get Tom Herman ANY JOB HE WANTED isn’t ok???

How does that thought process make sense?

I’ll also point out the only reason Applewhite is even an option for our OC job is because he got the Houston HC job over Todd Orlando. Had Orlando gotten the job, Applewhite would be the OC at Texas. And there’s no way he’s leaving Texas for a lateral move to Miami.

He’s gonna work here because if he doesn’t Manny will find someone who will. Very simple.

Briles was a definite factor in such a big difference.

Look at King's passing stats from 2017 to 2018. He was installed as the starter around mid-season in 2017. His development was there well before Briles got there. His 2018 stats look more like a natural progression than a quantam leap forward year to year.

You obviously researched this answer for about zero seconds before posting. Take a look at King's QB stats in 2017 and 2018. Kid was balling from snap one, game one after being installed as the starter.

Briles didn't do that, Applewhite got that started well before.
