Lookin like Dennis Turner and Ryan Mayes......

I think if Crow is going to transfer our, you at least give Treon a chance to be a Hurricane, whether it be at QB or other position.

Turner posted on Friday he was heading for a trip to Toledo. The kid supposedly has grade problems.

I concur with treon but at DB im not on the bandwagon for him at QB if he wants to get to the league DB or Slot is his best option

Obviously I have no idea what the coaching staff has told them behind the scenes, but hopefully if they no longer want them in this class, that message has been relayed to them so they can reopen their recruitment. I guess I'm in the minority but I find the whole notion of running off underperforming players distasteful. The coaches are the ones with the years of experience to hone their craft at identifying and projecting talent. If they miss on an evaluation, they should be the ones who have to pay for it, not the kid.

And in that event, when the coaches accept their commitment when they don't want them, and those kids are riding the pine the whole time they're here, who benefits from that situation?

I reread my post and it wasn't exactly clear who I was talking about. I was trying to condense a reply to about two different topics into one. When I said about running off underperforming players, I meant guys who were already on the team. Guys on scholarship like Gray Crow. I didn't mean that if you offer a kid and he commits, that you have to be obligated to take him. I mean in a perfect world it would be nice to honor your word but the 85 scholarship limit means coaches are almost forced into doing shady things sometimes.

It is distasteful but it's part of life. That's what made our country so great in the past. Now we give every kid a trophy or a ribbon for 8th place. The cream of the crop rises to the top, it is what it is. You want Golden to succeed here, he has to get rid of dead weight like every other top team does. There are many reasons why coaches get rid of players, this is just one of them. I'm all for coaches getting rid of kids who can't perform as long as they help them to find another school. The ones who don't want to perform or don't give it their all, kick them to the curb! It should make them stronger later on. Most of my generation of parents and down are pathetic, they need to stop coddling their kids, makes them useless and weak. We can already see the results of that coddling in society now.

Question: How does a coach tell a recruit that he has a scholarship, and then months later tell him sorry, we have moved on?

Athletic scholarships are usually one year renewable scholarships. Athletes know that when they sign up. They have to earn it each year. It's been that way for many years. I think some schools or coaches might offer a few multi-year scholarships, but that is not the norm.

i wasnt blow away by mayes tape last year. he didnt like contact. was not that explosive. still, he plays for northwestern, must be pretty good.

are you hearing this is the case?

are you thinking this will be the case?

or are you HOPING this will be the case?

It's difficult to deal with the idiocy of some posters on this board.

With Coley, Dixon, Langham, Berrios, Lewis, Waters, Scott, Griffin, etc. what is the point of bringing in Turner as a wide receiver?

We recruited him as a corner, because we have a need for a guy like him at corner. If he is replaced by JC Jackson, Turner has no spot on this roster.

If you want to continue as an 8 to 9 win program, we should follow your theory and just bring in every good South Florida wide receiver. Let's just carry 25 wide receivers no safeties and no defensive tackles you moron.

Be careful talking sense to these people man. I got negged to death for saying that scholarships are valuable and we can't give them away to just anybody. Repped.

FWIW, I've been hearing the same thing for a while. Turner isn't explosive/Jackson MUCH BETTER at that scholarship slot. Mayes, questions about his ability to cover/weird, boxy frame.

Again, just things I've heard around. Not saying it's gospel, but I don't think this thread was entirely off base.

Thank you. I said the same **** thing here yesterday, and cats got so offended. You can't b**ch about how we lack talent on D and then past on all the talent to bring in average kids who are probably never gonna see the field here. Where is Turner gonna go? He is gonna play over Coley? Griffin? Dixon? Berrios? Lewis? Langham? Where is Mayes gonna go? He's gonna play over who? Carter? Bush? Jenkins? Jackson? Burns? These two guys aren't on that level. I'm sorry but its nothing personal.

Can't sign kids like Turner and Mayes with our scholarship issues over the next 3 years. Dead weight.
Lol check Turners Highlight tape and see if you think he's dead weight. Just because these two aren't 4 or 5 stars doesn't mean they won't produce in a couple of years.

Lol.. His whole highlight tape he ran a 9 route.. I saw nothing else from him... Berrios and him are the same player.. I will take the guy with better short area burst... Good luck Dennis and like another poster mentioned.. He could be the next Antonio Brown!
