Longtime heavy booster and Butch supporter says...

People have referenced the influence Adidas may have in this hire. I've always brushed that aside as nonsense. But, Chip presents a very unique opportunity for Adidas to make a huge splash. If he is even remotely interested, Blake should be on the phone with Adidas brainstorming. I would not consider it unreasonable for Adidas to donate an indoor practice facility if it meant having Chip Kelley coaching Miami.

is there precedent for that? athletic sponsors getting involved with coaching search? it would be huge for adidas if The U becomes a legit brand again...

Nike practically underwrites Oregon - although this may be Phil Knight personally rather than Nike as a corporate entity.

How much does an indoor facility cost?

As much as I want Butch back, Chip would be unreal. Hands down my number choice. I just never though we had a realistic shot at him.

I can't imagine Adidas NOT keeping a close eye on this situation after handing us a check for $100 million. It's in their best interest to make sure this is a home run hire. And if it's a guy like Chip Kelly - that brings the speed offense, which works perfectly with their 'New Speed' marketing efforts - then I'm sure they'd do whatever they can to get him to Miami in their own way.

Im basically taking this to mean If Chip were to come back to College it would be between USC and Miami. I actually would probably assume that, but I'd also assume USC is a more attractive place for him. I just don't know if the Eagles would let him go. They seem pretty committed to him right now, and other than agreeing to part ways, I don't see him getting fired this year.

But Like I've been saying since the day Golden got fired for me its 1a) Butch 1b) Hue Jackson 1c) Chip kelly.
Either of these 3 would be homerun hires.

Chip may realize that it's not working over in Philly. He needs a QB to run his offense and he doesn't have one. Only way to get one is to go through the draft. And by the time his next QB develops, it will be too late.

Chip can leave the NFL whenever he wants if he wants to go back to the collegiate level.

I'm taking this as gospel, because Lu's about as reliable as sources get on this 'ere interwebs.

With that assumption made, the question is: Does Chip choose USC or Miami?

USC would mean familiar recruiting ground for Chip. But does five years at Oregon mean he's committed to going back west?

Maybe he looks at which team he can turn around the fastest. Does one Bradley Kaaya make the decision for him?

Ha. I wouldn't go that far. I'm just not gonna randomly make something up. I get next to nothing out of it and would rather avoid the hysteria. I shared what was said. From there, I can't tell you much else of what's going to actually happen. Haven't even given my opinion of outcome because it's basically an irrelevant guess.

I was watching NFL insiders today on ESPN and Adam schefter was talking about chip Kelly's future. He said Kelly is not a candidate for the USC job but will most likely be for the other major programs opening up

Lu, I'm of the mindset that Chip isn't coming here given it's an extreme long shot. However, I do believe you that the administration is trying to shoot for a home run hire this time around, and know that they can't be cheap this go around. That makes me feel positive for the moment.

No chance he would end up choosing us over USC if this were true...

They have deeper pockets, stadium, facilities and recruiting grounds that he's already familiar with..

The only reason I can think of, is that he would want a complete change of scenery and find Miami more appealing..

Jesus ****ing christ people like you don't deserve to be fans of this team......Who won more titles in your lifetime, Miami or USC? For me, it's been Miami 5 USC 1......Now tell me which program is better?

Did I misstate something?

I do think Chip would kill it here though. I'd be like when Dennis Erickson took over.

How about he doesn't want to coach or recruit against the Ducks.

Or Miami would be the easiest recruiting job in college.

Chip to USC is not as big of a headline as Chip to Miami.

2. canesfamNews: Not taking chances with coaches who have done well as coordinators or smaller schools. Focusing on coach who has won at highest level

3. canesfamNews: Also- money is not an issue I was told. Willing to pay big $ if it means Miami will be back on top and winning with new coach. #Canes

This coincides with news that Miami is going after a big name coach. This was posted yesterday morning by the way

That's it. Schefter said it. Players notified.

I'm actually somewhat surprised that Pat Hayden wouldn't be making a play for him.

As much as I admire Butch, if we can pull this off, let's do it.
Haden is like some of our fans. Has an irrational opposition to the spread offense and seems partial to hiring someone with USC ties. I'm hoping he won't get out of his own way and ***** this up for USC so that we can swoop in and steal Kelly.

We have a huge advantage over Southern Cal.

No state income tax.

There's a reason Tiger Woods headquartered in Orlando. California has punishing state taxes and regulations. Yes, a good Beverly Hills accountant can shelter a lot of income, but at some point, you have to pay him, too. And eventually, Sacramento, as well as D.C., wLks home with a lot of your money.

Why not pay an accountant on Brickell Avenue to park the income you didn't have to pay to the State of California in a growth fund in Grand Cayman?

If we can get anywhere close to the Trojans, we are in the game.

Only tax benefits in CA are for those in the entertainment business... maybe if they get their HC a daytime soap...

Ever see a million dollar house in cali?

Well if the UNC investigation is causing UM heartburn - and Butch was cleared by the NCAA -

imagine the convulsions Chip would create with an NCAA Show Cause.

Yeah but chip isn't the only big name coach out there. Maybe someone who is already employed? Patterson?
