Leach to FSU?

He's recruited out of Lubbock and Pullman. Just wait until he gets into the south and starts pulling speed. I hope they go in a different direction. He's won where nobody else has come close.

What's Leach's excuse for the 2019 season? At this point his 2019 record is closer to Manny Diaz or Willy Taggart. He is following up his best season ever (2018, maybe 2008 is better but it ended on a loss), where he finished by winning a bowl game by going 4-4 thus far. Leach has 20 years of head coaching experience. He is who he is. When expectations are low he will exceed them, when competition is weak he will beat them, he won't recruit, he will build a great passing offense, he will show no signs of anything remotely close to leadership (make his players attend press conferences in his place, call them fat in the press), and he will win 7-11 games and win half his bowl games. FSU could do a lot worse but the thinking that an old bizarre kook is going to suddenly be relatable and an excellent recruiter is strange. Leach would keep FSU relevant, he wouldn't bring them "back".

Taggart was known as a good recruiter and recruited classes at 16 and 19 at FSU. If Leach is going to be his offensive genius self and recruit in the 15-60 range FSU isn't returning to being a top 10 anytime soon. It might be a struggle for them to stay in the top 25 consistently with Leach at the helm. The other massive problem at FSU is Jimbo left them with a bunch of overrated malcontents who think they are amazing players and tough as nails and don't need to attend class or make grades. FSU needs a coach to bring players to heel and that ain't Leach.

FSU is either going to somehow sell their soul for a guy like Urban Meyer and do a crazy quick turnaround or they are going to have to do a true rebuild and gut the team short term.

Of course he'll have more resources, but he won't use them.

That's what I think yall are missing about Leach, he simply does not care about recruiting at a high level, he doesn't put any effort into & never has. The highest rated prospect he ever landed was Michael Crabtree & the only reason he got Crabtree was because Mack Brown was recruiting him to play Safety at Texas & he wanted to be a WR.

Leach despises the idea of trying to convince & beg kids to come play for him, he's not going to be out on the trail selling his resume & his career to the type of athletes that FSU is used to having, his whole approach is just take whatever players he has & put together a Pass ONLY offense with them. Trust me, the recruiting Wars that go on in FLA for prospects are not cut out for his style as a coach/recruiter, he's not about to be in some 5-star DE's living room battling it out with Clemson, UF, UGA, Bama, Auburn & Miami over a kid trying to convince him to go to FSU lol, that's just not who he is as a coach.

I get why you guys see that because he constantly has the #1 ranked Pass offense that it makes you worried, but that's because all he does is pass the ball (Leach QB's always lead the nation in attempts) & even with having such a prolific passing offense they still lose multiple games every year anytime they play a team with a halfway decent Defense. Again, like I said in my first comment a few pages ago, Leach to FSU is NOT instant championships for them, it's Wazzu except in the ACC & he would lose to us annually every year like he does to UW.

Ok..I see what you're saying. Thanks for explaining

Look at his career. And he’s at Wash St. genius

he wont be some genius at FSU or a big time program. like liberty said, he does not want to recruit. its why UF dodged a bullet when chip turned them down.

Couldn't agree more. Sure, he'll have that offense playing some great ball but this is big boy football. Nowhere to hide at FSU like he could at Texas Tech or Wazzu. If I were an FSU fan and this was the best they can come up with, I'd pretty ****ed today.

His offenses are good but I’m with you. I don’t see working out in the ACC plus the Atlantic is probably the more competitive division now. His offenses worked in conferences that are allergic to defense. I don’t see it working with the athletes we have in our conference. I mean Willie has some good defenses but they couldn’t work in the ACC. IMO the ACC and SEC has the best athletes on defense.

IF Leach goes to FSU, you gotta admit, it will be INTERESTING! Guy is twisted and has great sense of humor. Doesn't really give a **** what anyone thinks.

Oh, please. He's baiting them. He's practically DARING FSU to hire Leach.

If they do, he'll be laughing his *** off. He just knows that it's not credible for him to pretend he's scared they will hire Phil Fulmer.

Spurrier actually visited leach recently and picked his brain. He thinks a lot of him as a coach. Spurrier is one to bs.

Meyer and Belichik also have picked his brain.

Unlike message board gurus coaches think a lot of him schematically.

I can’t stand that smug, arrogant gaytor prick but he’s not stupid. God knows what his true thoughts are. Leach is great on offense but he doesn’t recruit and he doesn’t value defense the same as his offense.

Cribby:

Absolutely, they think he's interesting as an OC and a "mad scientist" of offensive football.
But as a Head Coach, my understanding is that opinions are a bit different.

Jimmy lost at home to a Division 2 team in his second season at Oklahoma State.
I wonder if Sam saw something in Jimmy that escaped most other people. Jimmy had some good bloodlines: Johnny Majors, Jackie Sherrill, Chuck Fairbanks, Frank Broyles.

People who were at Pitt will tell you JJ was a great assistant during his time there. One of his former players there said as much to me.

Correction, almost EVERYONE though JJ was a terrible hire at the time. His first season (8-5) didn't do much to dispel that thought, losing a 31-0 lead at halftime against Maryland in the OB.
Not his fault. No coach should have to deal with what awaited Jimmy his first year. Open civil war in the coaching staff.
