Don’t like this take at all.
Solid veteran starters Mauigoa and Bissanthe
Young talented 2 nd year guys Popo Pullum and BWashington plus 1 st year Hayes and Pruitt who are looking good. That’s seven guys for 2 spots, lot of talent there and you take some dude from Louisville?
At some point you have to develop your own players, otherwise you are doomed to rely on portal forever.
If he is better than what you have in the room, then you take him. DNic makes the call here.

Wesley Bissanthe? Number 31? That one? What has he done to be locked into anything?

Saying that this guy is BETTER than Cloyd is CRAZY! He had 11 more tackles than Cloyd but had 2x snaps!! 600 to 300 snaps!! Cloyd is also bigger, faster, and stronger. Same with Wes. As many mistakes as he made last year, he also produced more per snap than this guy. This guy is barely around the ball it seems or he is and is not making the tackles. Hopefully he takes another step here, cause he’s not that good. He’s only making a tackle every 11 defensive snaps he’s out there.
Cloud had 40 tackles in 3 years at Louisville prior to coming to Miami. He then went on to more than double his production in his first year. Alderman had 62 tackles just last year.

Kiko also took massive strides in his first year as a transfer LB.

Idk who is better but not crazy to think our system is a little more LB friendly.

Hear you guys about injuries happening and needing depth etc. Good points
What about next year:
Kiki Alderman and Wes( with good film, he’s gone) turn pro. They take up most of the snaps, the young are still inexperienced and unproven.
And 1 or 2 of the young guys go into portal out of frustration.
What does Mario do then?

Alderman also has two years of eligibility which is nice.

In the event Wes decides to go pro off a good season, we can bring Alderman back + the young guys will get their feet wet this year and be ready for a starter/larger role in 2025.

We can’t act scared for kids to transfer off, it’s going to naturally happen at every serious program in America. Thai is how big boy programs do it - let the cream rise to the top.

Is it because he is better, or is it adding more juice to the room for competition and let them "battle it out"?

I love the pick up. Personally think he is a little overhyped, but it adds to the numbers. May the best man win!

Also, it has been a long time since this could be even debated on here. Actually good to see arguing over who is going to step up.

Cloyd, Flagg, and Keontra left - that's 873 snaps. There's room for one vet to come in.

Y’all need to stop the Wes draft talk. This kid is 6’1, a little over 200 lbs, and plays a position that has become less and less important every year.

Ain’t nobody drafting him next season. He needs at least two all-ACC type seasons in order to get a sniff in the first two days.

Maybe, but Cloyd had injuries there so that accounts for some of it. And also, they had some guys drafted in that time period he was there. I wouldn’t look at if a player played a lot at his last stop if he produced here, because there’s so many things that are in and out of the player’s control, and scheme as you said is one of them.

Only way Wes should even be considering the draft after one season of “good film” is if he and everyone of his advisors was in a coma during this weekends draft

Man, I just think about one of my all favorite Canes, Spence Spence. I wonder how he would do in this LB friendly defense. Sorry for getting this off track.

Like that's stopped countless Hurricane players from entering the draft before...

*seriously, Mario should have some sort of seminar before the season giving current team members concrete info. re: the historic stream of early departures with high hopes that become late round draftees and UFA's. Unbelievable that this continually happens.
