Lane Kiffin is realistic (info).

Please stop with the Marcus Lemonis nonsense. The guy is not an alum and has done nothing as a UM trustee, but all of a sudden he has become the chess king because of where he went to high school?

I've tried to tell people for quite a while that Jose Mas is moving up the ranks. The guy has been a stone-cold politician and power-broker since he was a teenager, and he has way more money and power and sports experience than Lemonis. Sure, they went to the same high school, but Jose is the one who has been leading the BOT in a different direction. Lemonis is riding Mas' coattails.

Exchange Lemmonis’ name for Mas in my post, the point being it appears Miami is creating leverage for itself

Few things to rebut re some posts I saw..

Lane has a national championship as an OC in the modern era. He knows what being apart of a championship team looks like. So theres the answer to folks asking what he has accomplished. That means something in my book.

He took a crappy Ole Miss program to potentially 10-2 this season. (they definitely beat Vandy this week and they probably beat Miss State in a shootout) If we had gone 10-2 this year? We are in the ACC title game and probably win the ACC finally and fans would be saying extend Manny now before its too late.

People keep bringing up stuff that happened a decade ago re Tenn, USC and the Raiders. Ill bet you ask him he will admit he was immature and entitled at the time. That Lane Kiffen is a totally different Lane then now. He wants back on the national stage. Ole Miss aint the national stage. I dont care if they are in the SEC. Its the minor leagues in Oxford. Winning in Miami means you are in major leagues. He left Knoxville (Tennessee) on the first thing smokin to LA (USC) when he had the chance. Hes a city guy. Not a small town type.

Obviously Mario is the #1 choice but we should be so lucky to fall back on Lane Kiffin. Count me in. The list starts to look really bleak once those two are off the board.

Kinda the same argument about Mario and FIU

Except people are acting like he did a bad job at FIU. He DID NOT. He was a 36 year old first time HC who inherited a WINLESS team. That's right, he took over a dying resourceless 0-12 program. And despite a TON of organizational headwinds and a lack of support, he led formerly winless FIU to their first Sun Belt Conference championship and a bowl after only four years at the helm.

He had one bad year (which again, was infinitely better than what he inherited) in a difficult circumstance and was fired. And good old Pete Garcia got RAKED by everyone and anyone for firing him. It's known as one of the most idiotic moves by an AD in years. And time has proven that it was.

Its been 6,7,11 for his first three full cycles according to 247

I saw Rivals.

They have him 7, 9, 3, and 8 (current for 2022).

Think of the schools he beat last year to get that #3. Only Bama and OSU had better classes according to Rivals. He did better than UGA, LSU, TAMU, Clemson, USC, ND, UF, OU, etc etc. He's rolling.

Right that’s what I meant

He gets a lot of criticism for it but it’s like the Saban/MSU argument all over again

It’s strange the stances people are taking to support “their guy”

I don’t have a preference really over either. Gun to my head Mario because I think he will recruit better and seems to still be getting better as a coach

Check out the LeBatard interview that is posted on this site. Lane is not meant for Oxford.

Can you give me the quick Cliff Notes summary of the point you are trying to make? I'm strapped for time and usually post when I am on long conference calls that I am pretending to listen to.:)

You've been a Miami fan for how long? How often have we heard about kid a liking Miami but not wanting to go so far away from home? If you're out west Oregon is the only viable option to play big time football at a place that has their stuff together. He'll dip into California. He can go to Arizona and be practically unopposed. That isn't happening here.

The George Pickens story is a great example. Allegedly Miami had made real progress with him and there was some thought that we had a real shot. UGA calls him minutes before he made a final decision and the Miami people knew that was the end of the game. He was going to Georgia. Thats how ruthless it is. His zest and vigor for recruiting aint beating that. Up those bags or be disappointed.
Season tix since ‘97 - I know how recruiting works down here.

We haven’t seen it work in our favor mostly because we have had a **** product on the field.

Mario won’t win every battle but he will win a **** of a lot more than we have been.

Lots of people stuck in one camp over another. If both were BOT approved it would be:

a dream job guy who recruits the **** out of places that would need to find much better coordinators and isn’t a great gameday coach vs a little immature and ego driven guy who doesn’t recruit nearly as well but is one of the best OC in football that would also need to get a much better DC and probably need some assassin recruiters. It would be a **** of a tough spot if you had both on the line

Yeah honestly I am not even some sort of Mario or Kiffin fanboy. I just objectively understand they they are both legit and much better than anyone we've had at Miami this century. We'd be lucky to land either. Mario would be my first choice though because recruiting recruiting recruiting.

I feel the exact same way

There are no real slam dunk 100% hires we can make and really…why would there be?

I feel strongly they would both be better hires than Richt and for his faults Richt still had us on the cusp of building back even if Clemson was still significantly ahead of us at the time

Or alternatively Kiffin is using it as leverage to get a nice extension and pay raise....

Personally, the fact that the dude is a short term guy everywhere he goes makes me think he sees Miami as a stepping stone to the NFL. Easier conference, fertile recruiting. A few good seasons and NFL would be possible.

Cristobal would be a longer term option I think but Miami having both options is phenomenal..
