Lane Kiffin is realistic (info).

In his one season at UT, he improved them by 2 games.
At USC, he had the sanctions handcuff him a bit, along with being young and immature.
To say either was a total failure is kind of a stretch. He didn't shock the world, but he didn't completely **** the bed.
I would rather judge him since his time spent under Saban and learning from him. Since then, he has shown a lot of potential.
Kiffin took down every piece of knowledge he could from Saban, especially what parts of an offense (spread in particular) make it **** on a defense. Seems pretty tactical to me. I like that.

the question I have in this scenario(and I like both): do we go with the career carpetbagger(which UM has had success with in their glory days), or the guy who may really set in his roots here, but not as dynamic in terms of scheming things up offensively.
This school needs effectiveness but change regularly, Miami must maintain its edginess. Has to have a strong foundation though to support. I firmly believe that stability with some contradiction is needed to thrive.

For people that want Lane, why was he a failure at USC and UT?

1- He wasn't a failure at UT. He left for a better job. They are still mad he left.
2- Why was Bill Bellichek a failure at Cleveland?
2a- Why was Nick Saban a failure with the Dolphins?

How far back do you want to go to tear him apart? People learn, evolve, improve.

EVERYONE STOP.

If he leaves for a better job its GOOD... it guarantees that he was a good hire, crushed it here, and now we are going to have 10x the leverage in our next hire. It could be to go after a Lincoln Riley type at that point. It would be a GREAT THING. It would mean the hire WORKED OUT and SAVED UM FOOTBALL. That's how it works, and that's how it went with EVERY GOOD UM COACH WE'VE HAD since and including SCHNELLENBERGER.

Jesus we don't even know if we are getting a coach ANYWHERE near the Mario and Kiffin level and you triggered mofos are already sitting in the corner worrying about when they are going to leave us.
Finally somebody says this. If he gets a better job it means he made this one a better job for the next guy. If you wouldn’t sign up for 2-3 years of a coach that is gonna leave for the NFL idk what to tell you. We haven’t hired a guy who’s gotten a better job in two and half decades.

There is no abundance of recruits in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, etc. He has to go to Cali & National.

He can still recruit top 6 classes here despite Baba, UGA, OSU, etc. He can get national players as well. Not just S. Florida or Florida guys.
You've been a Miami fan for how long? How often have we heard about kid a liking Miami but not wanting to go so far away from home? If you're out west Oregon is the only viable option to play big time football at a place that has their stuff together. He'll dip into California. He can go to Arizona and be practically unopposed. That isn't happening here.

The George Pickens story is a great example. Allegedly Miami had made real progress with him and there was some thought that we had a real shot. UGA calls him minutes before he made a final decision and the Miami people knew that was the end of the game. He was going to Georgia. Thats how ruthless it is. His zest and vigor for recruiting aint beating that. Up those bags or be disappointed.

I think the majority of us are tired of the revolving HC door. I’d prefer a HC that’ll stick around a while and build the program into a perennial contender.

So a coach is actively lobbying, thru his agent, for a job that does not even exist? Manny is still the coach at UM. not an interim but an actual head coach. Even if all this does a garner a raise for Kirin it is a bold move.
is Lane also interested in LSU and UW?

OK, since nobody is going to going to the possible negatives of lame, here’s one: he’s never won anything. Numerous head-coaching jobs, unceremoniously fired and left on an airport tarmac, basically fired from Alabama, left a trail of bad feelings and little accomplishments.

Prove me wrong.

We’re all getting this big hard on for him, but these are the types of questions prospective employers are going to look at.

I’m not against him, but I think you have to take a clear eyed and sober look at him.
I agree. The consensus is that he also has maturity issues. I mean Luke and Warren Sapp adore him. I'm sorry but that's a red flag to me. As stated, what has he won? Where are the new years six bowl wins, the power five conference championships, etc? He got fired from the best two jobs he has ever had at the raiders and USC. I'm not opposed to him and he is an upgrade over Manny obviously. But I wouldn't rank him over Mario or Chris Petersen.

Yep. It's the whole "SEC-SEC-SEC" chant all over again.

Guy acting like every SEC job is so awesome that nobody would ever leave voluntarily. And, because "stats", it is some "fantasy world" that Lane Kiffin would leave Ole Miss.

Look, just drop the word "Miami". Is this guy saying that Lane wouldn't take a job with Texas (I realize they will be joining the SEC soon) or F$U (assuming Norvell is ****-canned) or Notre Dame (not saying this is realistic, but you KNOW Lane would take Notre Dame).

They view Miami as a bottom tier school They forget 20-30 years ago and yes I don’t like to live in the past but the SEC was complete dog sh*t… go look at our record playing LSU, Arkansas, SCarolina and so on…

That’s 4 teams you named. Still 2 more spots to get to 6.
Those are the consistent 4. Anyone from OU and Texas can jump in there. Throw in Clemson. Texas A&M too. If Florida hires a recruiter as HC. I'm just gonna tell ya Mario aint special. There are plenty of legit recruiters out there and they'll have a bigger bag to throw around.

I think it's a fair question. UT gig was a disaster. He got into some hot water with the school and the SEC over comments he made, iirc, so his time there was going to be short lived. Not sure what to make of USC but I do know he got stuck with NCAA penalties, etc. It's hard to measure how much he's grown since then but I suspect Bama and FAU did a lot to rebuild him as a person and coach.

What? No. He didn't get in hot water with Tennessee or anyone there. It's was SEC mouth running antics and everyone in Tenn loved him for it. They are STILL sore that he left them all those years ago. They STILL like to imagine how many championships they'd have won with him the way we do about if X coach had stayed.

He's actively lobbying because of an unattributed tweet that's making the rounds?
