lance not high on wilson's perfomance

He looks like he’s added a bunch of weight and it didn’t look like a good thing to me

Could be wrong. Blount and Lightfoot stood out. The only times I really noticed Wilson was when he was on his ***
He got decleated a lot in the first half. It stood out. We shouldn't write him off, and I will happily buy the argument that he was "just practing his new bull rush move" until I can't. But, it was weird af the he got put on his *** as often as he did.

Yep, he is a WDE, they are trying to turn him into something he’s not. The SDE depth is scary, which is why it made no sense for McConathy to move to TE.

Still think he will be fine, I hope the staff knows he is not a Bain or Mesidor type of DE.

Warren made a couple great plays that most qb’s would’ve been sacked on or throw aways from pressure. With this defense I compare it to last years offense versus the previous years offense. We had an elite offense in 2024, the 2025 defense was elite. So when I say this D will be more comparable to the 2025 offense I mean good not great. That said I wouldn’t be shocked if sack and pressure numbers aren’t close to or eclipse last years numbers. There’ll be a lot more opportunities to pin ears back and eat with the scoring from this offense. It’ll be hard to keep up with the points for most opponents.

Will this defense be superior to the 2024 defense, or will this year’s defense be similar to that of 2024?

Lmao
Lowe NEVER dressed for Miami! HOW TF DOES LOSING HIM HURT?! Buddy was a knucklehead who has done NOTHING outside of Greentree for one spring. We have other pass rushers that haven’t gotten in, young guys who are pass rush specialists like Pickett who gets a sack nearly every series he gets in. That’s who should be getting snaps on passing downs if we cannot create pressure. Third Scroggins looks like a little boy out there.
I can’t argue with that. But he was a 5 star talent. That doesn’t grow on trees. It would have been nice to see him play for us. But obviously not program worthy. But you can’t argue that count on these types of guys to build a roster. And he may have left a hole. And then again maybe he didn’t. We will find out.

Very underwhelming. Lot of his sack numbers last year came against lesser teams...and he couldnt beat back-up stanford tackle? Buddy needs to step it up if he expects to get drafted anywhere day 1/2

First off who the **** is Lance? Second off Wilson struggled to start then made a nice play and I thought he was fine after that. Im still ****ed on how bad the snapping was by Rodriguez. PTSD from Corey Gaynor snapping to King.

Stanford definitely left points on the field. It’s always a little weird watching the other team shoot themselves with bad penalties and mistakes while we played pretty clean. Normally it’s the other way around
As a retired fb coach I can't help but talk chit when Stanford dropped a wide open ball or had a pre-snap penalty or holding that killed their drive. Maybe the HC should've focused on running the team and hired an OC

It’s not going to ever look like Bain and Mesidor…I mean that might never happen again here

Even they were neutralized at times and I think Warren took a few sacks off the board. I suspect he’s one of the better QBs we will see processing wise. They had a Louisville esque approach just with less talent

The offense will help turn the other team one dimensional

So taking a small step back we can still be a great defense but we also need OJ to be ok. He’s a domino effect back there especially if Antoine is out as well. It’s just going to be a bit more bend but don’t break, and not as highlight reel as last year
Its funny you mention UL, because ironically, I thought we also played a UL type of defensive scheme.

The DE took a lot of edge setting pass rush routes. The zone was a tad too soft. We started brining pressure from outside the dline 4.

But like you said, stabford had less talent. So it did work in the long run. But anyway, with respect to Damon, I wont overreact one game. Could've been the game plan.

I just hope its not bc Mizzou let him rush undisciplined at all times which lead tk the sacks and in this scheme he cant do that, therefore neutralizing him.

I think hes just learning how to play in this defense. We're asking him to play the run alot more then mizzou did, where he just rushed the QB every play.

Someone else said this and it's true, hes not Mesidor or Bain and we shouldn't expect him to be. Personally, I was impressed with Lightfoot and expect him to push Wilson, if he hasnt already.

What a person can and can't be is often due to schematics. As I've previously stated quite often, what we ask out of our ends has NEVER been his strength... He's a pass rush specialist and that's now what we ask out of our ends. We need our ends to feature in the run game. I STILL question if he's capable in that role. One things for certain and two things for sure. We sure the **** need him to be or were gonna struggle until SOMEONE does... No excuse that davis warren and the other backups at Stanford should move the ball consistently on us. Especially when schematically were not designed for bend but don't break. Great they only scored six points. But being realistic a lot of that was on them and their dropped passes and penalties.
Read my post above, I agree with a lot of your thought.

My one comment here tho is typically we arent bend dont break, but like in that UL game. It sure seemed like that was the gameplan vs stanford.

We paid him allot of money. Strange that we would do that for a guy that doesn’t fit our scheme. That could be a problem.

I felt the Stanford penalties were a result of our guys being better. They got 4 holding penalties and could have had 8. Can’t really fault our defense if the other team resorts to illegal play. That just means we were better. They did have a couple of drops that killed them. But only to extend a drive, not to score.

His two highest pressure and sack outputs came against Alabama and Oklahoma, the best teams they played last season.

It’s fine to be critical but why are we just lying.

Yeah I’m with you. I mean we’ve got top tier coaches and actual competence in charge

I trust they’ve got the code

But we are here just shooting the **** and making observations

We went through a couple of years where we just could not get turnovers

Last year we caused so much havoc the turnovers saved our asses a few times. Stanford was one of em last year

I’m a little disappointed we lost the turnover battle in this one but we will see how that plays out

Yeah like one overarching (not that Arch CiS don’t get horny) is if Damon Wilson is the “problem” on defense, we are gonna be in good shape
