The only times I really noticed Wilson was when he was on his ***
I think you meant to say "when he was on his ****nal"...
The only times I really noticed Wilson was when he was on his ***
LmaoAnd this is why losing Lowe bites.
I say it often “this board has the football iq of a squirrel.”
Vast majority have no idea what they are watching. Casual in every sense and that is ok. But the ridiculous takes that come with it are over the top
SJ WAS BARSUAHe was fine. Everybody wanted to decide in 20 minutes that he and SJ weren’t good. Neither is going anywhere. Wilson had the most noticeable pressures on the passer in the game considering the whole game. Similarly SJ had two bad misses early then he was basically fine and he offers some things that none of the others do. Neither is going anywhere. Buchanan I could see losing some time and Chase Smith if Pruitt can be the middle of the defense on pass downs.
If you’re expecting anything close to our DE from last year I have bad news for you. Wilson did what Wilson does on film.Flashes then disappears for long periods. He’s a nice player but he’s not anywhere in the universe as 3&4. The DL will be fine it’s just not super human this year. Which is why I expected a small step back from the defense. That extra second of time in the pocket will make everyone look a tad bit worse. A top 20-30 defense is more than enough to go with this offense.
Warren made a couple great plays that most qb’s would’ve been sacked on or throw aways from pressure. With this defense I compare it to last years offense versus the previous years offense. We had an elite offense in 2024, the 2025 defense was elite. So when I say this D will be more comparable to the 2025 offense I mean good not great. That said I wouldn’t be shocked if sack and pressure numbers aren’t close to or eclipse last years numbers. There’ll be a lot more opportunities to pin ears back and eat with the scoring from this offense. It’ll be hard to keep up with the points for most opponents. It’s not going to ever look like Bain and Mesidor…I mean that might never happen again here
Even they were neutralized at times and I think Warren took a few sacks off the board. I suspect he’s one of the better QBs we will see processing wise. They had a Louisville esque approach just with less talent
The offense will help turn the other team one dimensional
So taking a small step back we can still be a great defense but we also need OJ to be ok. He’s a domino effect back there especially if Antoine is out as well. It’s just going to be a bit more bend but don’t break, and not as highlight reel as last year
He has the talent to be a top two round guy.I’m hopeful Taylor’s influence can limit the disappearing act. If he can play start to finish at his ability, he’s not Bain or Mesidor, but he could be great in his own right. We knew coming into the season he needed something to click because that’s what he’s known for.
What a person can and can't be is often due to schematics. As I've previously stated quite often, what we ask out of our ends has NEVER been his strength... He's a pass rush specialist and that's not what we ask out of our ends. We need our ends to feature in the run game. I STILL question if he's capable in that role. One things for certain and two things for sure. We sure the **** need him to be or were gonna struggle until SOMEONE does... No excuse that davis warren and the other backups at Stanford should move the ball consistently on us. Especially when schematically were not designed for bend but don't break. Great they only scored six points. But being realistic a lot of that was on them and their dropped passes and penalties.Wilson is a stud, the tape doesn’t lie from last season. Why he had a bad game, who knows but I’m sure the staff and he are going to be motivated to turn that around in these next coming games. I would very much expect to see that!
When you lose what were maybe the 2 best DEs in college football it's extremely difficult to replace them. They just need to get creative moving forward. We should be good at stopping the run though. The d line at the end of the season last year was playing insane football. Pockets were being collapsed almost immediately. It’s going to make us more critical of the guys trying to replace that. They won’t reach that level and the defense won’t be as dominant. The good news is our offense has the potential to be absolutely filthy. They can more than make up for a step back on the defensive side.
Stanford definitely left points on the field. It’s always a little weird watching the other team shoot themselves with bad penalties and mistakes while we played pretty clean. Normally it’s the other way aroundWhat a person can and can't be is often due to schematics. As I've previously stated quite often, what we ask out of our ends has NEVER been his strength...
