Lack of elite talent

Last 2 years NFL draft:

Alabama-22
Miami-15
LSU-15
Ohio state-14
Michigan-13
Clemson-9
UGA-7

We have had plenty of nfl players last 2 years, but we haven’t been good enough at QB and OL to compete at playoff level.

Also not quite enough of elite talent like Bama and the like. 1 first rounder and 1 3rd rounder of those 15 picks overall. More late rounds picks for sure.

We got 3 projected first rounders next season by some publications.

Stolen from another thread, but:

Miami has eight of the 200 highest paid players in the NFL. Nobody has more players in the Top 200. Only Georgia (with Richt) has more players in the Top 100.

So our talent is proving to be elite once it gets into the league. But they are undervalued in the draft process. The reasons could be lack of development, lack of team success, and bad Early Entree decisions.

Yeah all that elite talent looked great at UF and FSU last year.

You're like a broken robot. You're so used to crying over recruiting rankings that you don't realize we're already the best team in the state.

And we had the 5th most players drafted of ANY school, in a down year for us. Next year we'll have at least 4 guys go in the 1st 2 rds.
Im just stating a fact someone on here posted.....out of all the major teams in the hunt laat year us and wisky had the least amount of 4 and 5 stars. Fsu and uf dont count in that discusiion being that they werent in the hunt. And its a good sign for us cause we went 10 3 without a full deck of cards to play with. Imagine when we do then our play will increase. I didnt say anything that wasnt fact based on the rankings that were brought up on here.

Golden was not a bad recruiter. He actually was pretty good at QB evaluations. Rosier and Kaaya turned out well despite not being highly sought after recruits.

Golden was a mediocre recruiter at best but where he really struggled was developing the talent he brought in.

Too many of you are confusing elite talent for elite production. Production wins games, talent gets you drafted.

We need more guys who produce for more than one season before going pro. Last year was hopefully the start of that.

Golden loved projects with talent. That's 2 wasted seasons before the light bulb goes off. Then the player is gone.

Miami's talent at the top is not and has not really been the issue. We still have and still continue to get and even develop enough top flight talent to appear on these types of lists. We will always have enough draft picks to register. We will always have enough players in the league to be notable. We will always have studs in the league. Its a by product of the area and being Miami.

Even before we were THE U and before the Schnelly area...Miami was still producing talent. Ottis Anderson, Eddie Edwards, Don Latimer, Dennis Harrah, Stork, Chuck Foreman, Burgess Owens...you're going to see the parallels to the modern era to the amount of top end talent / 1st round types produced.

Its the rest of the team that is increasingly the problem and closer to our 1970s counterpart than that of the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. Our depth of talent is lacking...today, mostly on the lines (rarely an issue in modern Miami history, but increasingly a big problem), but Miami's talent depth just isn't up to snuff. We also have a lack of development in college that has been noted throughout the years here and elsewhere.

I agree. Depth is the biggest difference between Miami and a team like Alabama.

Problem with Golden and Co is that they could not get out of the Temple recruiting model of finding guys that were under the radar. He carried that inferiority complex from Temple to here. I still remember that video of a recruiting meeting of D'Onofrio comparing a potential recruit to the best guy they aver had at Temple! Meanwhile, I think it was Hurlie Brown (former UM player) who was there stating the obvious, "but can he play at Miami?" I am sure that is how it probably went at most of those meetings.
Link to this video I'd like to watch it for a good laugh?

And other teams...and why injuries and just other wear and tear of a season can really hurt a team like Miami that has a significant drop off from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. You can barely afford injuries, and just the normal grind and attrition at the end of a season creates issues.

We’re better off this year than we have been in years. Due to a combination of 2 solid Richt recruiting classes (2.5 counting his first one) and also our numbers are now almost approaching 80, which is also part of the depth issue.

That video is an embarrassment. It needs to be shut down. Except for one or two people in that room, everyone's clueless when it comes to evaluating talent. That showed on the field.

If it wasn't for the ****** QB play we would have won a championship this year... Our guys would have had more exposure and would have been drafted much higher!
If we would have stayed healthy and an accurate Qb yes we could have won a title!!!!
