So maxing out on your bench press is explosive? **** no. You are slow *** **** trying to press a ton of weight. Olympic lifting is a ton of technique but real athletes do powerclean and jerks etc..

I never said bench press was the correct movement to do, but yes, bench press done correctly is explosive just not in the way that would impact most positions, and overhead work is safer long term for athletes anyways. I didn't say not to do powercleans and jerks, but people with no background in strength sports just think OLYMPIC LIFTS ARE EXPLOSIVE when there are a lot of movements that can be explosive. Olympic lifts need to be done with individual coaching with technique to actually be done correctly, which means his associate coaching staff better have USAW certs as well. (even if none of them have above a level 2 which requires actually coaching athletes up to nationals)

Here's some stuff from JTS on it:

And like clockwork all S&C threads turn into ****shows of Google experts and trash

If you know and experience the first thing about S&C you know there are endless ways to achieve results and if you dismiss an idea you likely just end up looking like a moron.

But this should be fun. Can’t wait to read this stuff later.

Not being negative, but why is he at La Tech? Why not bigger school or NFL?

He has worked for countless pro teams / pro athletes based on his bio. Worked for LSU, Denver Broncos, etc. Was a finalist for the S&C coach of the year last year or the year before.

People need to regurgitate what they've heard without any understanding of how training works.

I've explained this before. S&C hires in College Football are fairly incestuous. A new coach is going to bring someone he's worked with because they already believe that their method "is the best". There aren't really that many big names in S&C, and most football coaches aren't going to know how to evaluate S&C coaches because it's not their specialty. Look at how often coaches **** up a hire for a position coach, and that's in their actual field.

Facts. S&C field isn’t understood very well by most coaches. They will admit that they don’t understand it enough to truly know. Therefore quality coaches can be scattered through college sports that no one has ever heard of.

Sounds good. Sign him up.

In Manolo we trust.

Until we have reason not to.

He is a disciple of Tom Shaw - who is one of the most respected Speed Coaches in the US.

If you watch some of his videos he really focuses on position specific work. He has times for OL pulling into sprint, LB's shuffle to sprint, DB's Hip Flip to sprint etc.

He also uses Tri-Phasic training methods where you focus the 1st phase on longer eccentric times coupled with explosive Plyometrics. Then next phase you would pause at the bottom for time then explode up - followed by explosive plyometric. Third phase you would do regular concentric movements with plyometric. Then closer to the season you are focusing on specific strength and moving weights faster. I have used this method and it works amazing. Much better than the volume burn out workouts Felder brought from PSU.

Impressive stuff here very , back in the day I trained with Bill Kazmier for (6) months ( look him up ) and you'll see POWER explosiveness defined , he taught me bench squats you un-rack then slowly squat down (sticking your butt out head looking to the sky) on a bench relax so to speak then EXPLODE up , Kaz had me start with 350 pounds for 3 sets of 8 keep in mind my regular squats were already over 650 for triples.

Soon I was doing these bench squats 3 set of 5 with just over 630 , keep in mind also I was training to quality for Wide World of Sport and needed to open with 810 minimum to make Sunday afternoon live show....well didn't do to well couldn't lock out knees ended up spotting Kaz he destroyed 810 and went on to break world record bench of 600 remember this was in the late 70's now WR bench is 1100 pounds yes 4 digits.

Drive blocking with quads that handled 800 pound squat was a breeze.

Now it's all space age training to me...all in all WE GOT THE DUDE we need to WIN here.
