There sure seems to be a lot of opinions about a guy, when none of you are in this field and certainly not experts. He's awesome at his job until he isn't. As for me, I'm just going to sit back and watch it unfold since I don't have a clue about his qualifications. Obviously the people in charge believe in him so that's good enough for me.

You guys are out of your marbles lol 6 pages of arguing over an S&C coach. Yes it’s important obviously but look at the guys resume. It speaks for itself.

Word. Anyone who doesn't want him has never worked out a day in their lives. He's in his 50s and is from Louisiana. That's why no one is clamoring for him smart guys SMH. Hire this man.

First day of off season workouts.

Experience does not equal knowledge. He shouldn't be written off because he's coming from La Tech. For all anyone knows he could have the best or worst S&C program in the country and you wouldn't know it looking from the outside in. Football is extremely difficult to quantify the impact the S&C coach has when you consider all the factors that go into preparing for and winning football games.

i saw interviews with him but he didnt talk to much on speed. i want fast swarming canes

I want some Canes that don't EVER get their **** pushed in by Savannah State's DL...regardless of how much I love the sand pit and track team.

If he was the owner and/or founder of the sports performance center he was at then it would make perfect sense why he is at La Tech. He doesn't need the money. Most guys go to those bigger programs because they're trying to prove themselves or the coin is to much to pass up. Most of these performance training places have been snapped up over the years if they're any good and if he was an owner he got a nice paycheck.

Also location and having a happy family life is very important to some people. It's more important than money. Happy wife, happy life, happy family happy everything right. Why move when you're happy doing what you're doing very close to all that you know?

I've explained this before. S&C hires in College Football are fairly incestuous. A new coach is going to bring someone he's worked with because they already believe that their method "is the best". There aren't really that many big names in S&C, and most football coaches aren't going to know how to evaluate S&C coaches because it's not their specialty. Look at how often coaches **** up a hire for a position coach, and that's in their actual field.
This plays in with what LuCane mentioned yesterday about it being important to aggregate different opinions and not just people who think exactly the way you do.

He talks a lot about speed actually. He also has been hired at many big time programs to be a speed consultant.

This is actually wrong. Olympic lifting is all about technique. You can become explosive in any type of lift depending on how you train.

Technique yes. But the clean and jerk and snatch are not grinding lifts. Both require and train explosive power.

Yes, that is 100% true, but it's only one of the tools that should be used. Olympic lifts are pretty grindy on the joints, and not necessarily the best choice for football players who are already getting beaten up in the joints. There's other stuff you can do that also teach explosiveness in extension that doesn't require as much technique work.

No doubt. I'd be surpised if a football player has time to become technically proficient at either lift. A lot of videos I've seen of college fb player power cleans are awful. The athlete muscled through a rather heavy weight. But technique was shaky.

Not to mention a snatch.
