Kellen Wiley Jr, LB Progress

I dont think he left bc they came back .
Yes he did. He wanted to be the guy. He was going to split reps with the two of them. He wanted to play ball man and you cannot blame the kid. His last year to prove he can make it to the league!

Ideally it'd be Toure and Wiley starting. But seems like It'll end up being Toure and Chase Smith.... But I think LBs will rotate a lot more than last season.

Last year there was like 2,000 LB snaps.

Toure likely gets less than last year since the depth will be more ready to contribute and we should have leads... So maybe like 725 snaps for him.

From there Chase Smith got 265 last year. He will obviously receive more, maybe closer to 350-400 I think. I really don't get why he'd get much more than that, but then again if it were up to me he'd be LB5 so....

But there should be around 850-900ish snaps for Wiley/Pruitt/Bonner. I don't expect Marcelin/Edwards/Busch/Campbell to get much more than ST work. So like if it was 350-400 for Wiley and 300 Pruitt, 200 Bonner, I think that'd make sense to me.

I think like 2027 the LB rotation is more expected to be:

Mike: Wiley / Busch / Randle / Marcelin
Will: Pruitt / Bonner / Campbell or Edwards / Glover
lol why so much hate for Chase Smith? Before the knee injuries dude was big and athletic AF! You obviously have never played ball before! Because if you did, you would show more respect to guys who have had 2-3 major injuries and fought hard, mentally and physically, and rehabbed like **** to make a comeback.and Chase Still looked pretty athletic when he played. Also, I don’t see Toure coming off the field all that much man. He’s the QB of the defense and the undisputed leading returning tackler. This isn’t NCAA football 27, you don’t just not play guys because you don’t like them lol. These guys have proven they can ball. And I did it against top tier competition. Yes, the young guys will get snaps but don’t expect a whole bunch for them outside of Pruitt and Wiley relieving them for 10-12 snaps a game and in blowouts.

This isn’t his last year to prove that bc players have 5 years of eligibility now. I could be wrong but I think Kellen Sr is insinuating the other guys at the LBer position (Wiley, Pruitt, Bonner) are the main reason Raul Aguirre decided to transfer.

smh, acting like Im treating this like ncaa27. I was just estimating off of last season (which included playoff snaps!), but lets do the actual math here:

last year the ACTUAL snaps were: Toure had 675, Wes had 625 snaps, Popo had 304 snaps, and Chase Smith had 265 snaps. Thats combined 1,869ish snaps, and only 2 of those guys are on this roster. Then the OTHER LBs combined for like another 150ish snaps. So that is a combined 2,000ish snaps available for LBs just to make it nice and round.

Toure won't come off the field all that much, Idk where you got from anything I wrote that he would at any even medium rate from last year. He played 674 snaps last year. I said 725 this year in that quote, but that was clearly a typo and supposed to be 625. The only negative thing I've been saying about Toure is he is a liability against the pass, which is just a 100% fact. So a 50 snap drop is really not a big deal, especially since I specifically said I expect we will be blowing teams out more often so 2nd team will be in more than last season.... Anyways my 625 number is perfectly reasonable. So that means 1,375 snaps left for the remainging lbs.

So then you get to Chase Smith. First of all I disagree that Chase Smith looked pretty athletic. I don't think he's good. I think he's average, to maybe above average. I don't think in anyway he's "proven" he can ball in his 480 career snaps..... Anyways you can assign a number likely between what he received last year and what Wes received (265-625 snaps). Lets just go with 600 snaps for Chase Smith to make him a full time starter. That would mean there are 775 snaps remaining to go around. YOU also said "don’t expect a whole bunch [of snaps] for them outside of Pruitt and Wiley relieving them for 10-12 snaps a game and in blowouts.".... Okay lets just ignore your 10-12 snaps a game figure (which over 14 week season is <340 snaps total for them - aka just slightly more than what popo alone played last yr) and use that 775 snaps remaining number and I guess just apply that to pruitt and Wiley, since I guess you think Bonner isn't getting any.

Hey would you look at that I LITERALLY said "350-400 for Wiley and 300 Pruitt, 200 Bonner". That specifically adds up to 650-700 just for Wiley and Pruitt.... Is that under 775? hmmm.... So If we took MY numbers for Wiley and pruitt, that would mean there would be about 75-125 snaps for Bonner+Freshman... And that is WITH your I guess prediction that Chase Smith would be getting 600 snaps...

Which leads me to ask what you thought you were disagreeing with exactly?.... Seems you got confused on how the numbers worked. The only difference is you think Chase Smith will be a full time starter and I think he will be a half time starter.

For those of us keeping score at home I am going to call for a @RVACane gif for a decision on this one.

People always say play the young guys and the backups until there’s busted plays and then those people go quiet

Saying “trust the coaches” is boring but Heathermans bread and butter is LBs

I think we’ll see a lot of snaps for second and third team because first we’ll be rotating a lot more this season and second we’ll going up by two TDs earlier.

Chase still has a lot to prove. If he’s fully healthy he’ll be a lot better than people expect. He’s bigger stronger faster and quicker than Wes if healthy. JMHO.

Why you even say fully healthy, he was fully healthy last year. When you say that, other posters on here get all in their feelings and start thinking the guy isn’t healthy. Chase Smith is fully healthy!

Fair, I should have been precise and written "if he stays" not "if he's". But CIS will always have its snowflakes no matter what I write.

Hopefully we can unleash this beast at some point this year. Similar to Blount last year- taking meaningful snaps at the end of year in the biggest games

He left BEFORE the rule was created - well before! Like 6 months before lmao

Cristobal has proven that we can trust him to fix any of our problems with hiring. Almost all of our current coaches have now proven that we can trust them with development. Only 2 position coaches/position group coaches left to earn their trust. 1. Viti. 2. Special teams coach (idek who our guy is). Very confident Viti will turn our tight end room around sooner rather than later. Still don't understand our special teams operation. Why don't we get an NFL guy to run that group? Why don't we recruit kickers and punters with the same ambition as the rest of our team? We have so much depth that our special teams should be the best in America. We have absolute freaks all over our roster who are backups at their positions, but should be studs in special teams. I just don't get it.

Edit: I guess you could put Favian Upshaw and Jefferson in this mix too. But RB development is easy and Jefferson is proven at this point.

No, it's Feltcher in the second photo. The Jersey is white and the body composition is unmistakable.
Yeah, it's Fletcher. I asked Pops that on Twitter and confirmed it was MF4; which is awesome cause Fletcher is huge (Pause) and looks smaller than KW.

Im sure he really does care where they play him he just wants to be on the field contributing
Pops, let me preface this by saying that he should play LB; but would he consider playing DE for us? It is a money position in the league, and getting coached up by JT can not hurt.
Your son looks like he can put on another 15 lbs and still look and feel great, and be extremely productive, especially after seeing that picture of his bend.
3 Pauses on this post btw!

You completely missed the fact that I said blowouts also. If we’re in dog fights, the best guys will play. We expect to blow out most of these ACC teams. Mario will not make the mistake of not stepping on people’s throats again! You said Ideally Chase would get less snaps than last season (or stay the same? I don’t remember). But what I’m saying is that he has proven he can play in PLAYOFF atmosphere. Experience speaks volumes. That’s what prompted me to say this is not NCAA 27. So far none of the young guys have proven anything or played any meaningful snaps in games except Bonner the previous season at NC State. I didn’t do all the numbers like you did. I’m hoping the young guys can step up and push the senior citizens and make the next man
