It emanated from a separate conversation in a dm. I’m not really following recruiting this cycle. I know we whiffed on the money DTs and the 5 star WR we were after and that we just flipped a Jennings from Michigan. That’s about it lately.

Mario stabilized the program in my opinion. It’s not where we want to get to ultimately but at a minimum it’s where we need to be to get further.

My point originally is that DeBoer is a better coach than Mario and I would take him over Mario. He’s doing better in recruiting too right now but that’s secondary to my original point. And thanks for participating. Please see @Empirical Cane for your door prize.
 
Mario was an experiment that had to happen. We can get Deboer when Bama fires him in two years if he fails to deliver.

So Deboer will be following Saban and the only coach that can win at Miami? That is something of legend.

I mean, not as legendary as a coach going from the heights of Miami to washing out at FIU, but legendary nonetheless

I have little faith in pretty much any coach at this point. I think the days of a genius coach making a huge difference are behind us. The ability to acquire talent might have made it less of an advantage.

I also think Butch caught lightning in a bottle here. Not that he was a bad coach, but that conditions were perfect for him to succeed at that time.
 
The red elephant club headed up by Paul Bear Bryant’s family is the reason why Alabama recruits so well. Doeber isn’t a recruiter at all.

1st full class and he’s going to have 8 5stars.

Good teams are also loading up on analysts and assistant coaches so I agree

And to your point Butchs assistant staff was elite

That’s where Butch totally beats Mario. I think his ability to identify talent, both player and coaching-wise, is elite. He was a terrible game day head coach though I’d rank him better than Mario by a knee.
 
Ill be here when this guy loses 3 games again and the Bama fans want him gone at the end of this season. Fortunately all these 5 stars aren't playing this year and I don't think their QB situation is that great.
