Justin Fuente fired at Va Tech

It's hard to evaluate G5 coaches - most successful ones are winning with someone else's guys that they didn't recruit. Recruiting at the G5 level is totally different than recruiting in the P5 level and he was essentially tasked with recruiting the same level of players that he did at Memphis and being expected to develop them better and win with them at a higher level in the ACC.

That's why it's smart to avoid G5 coaches at a place like Miami. Unless that person has been there 5+ years, got their own guys, proved they can sustain winning, and then on top of that they've got to agree to bring in new staff that more appropriate for a higher level. Tough decision for some guys that they're not willing to do.

Agree with all this.

VPI got a helluva fan base, though.

Lane Stadium is poppin' for big games.
The problem with the DMV is it produces maybe 20 4-stars on any given year. Penn State and Ohio State will always pull 4 of those kids. Alabama, LSU, Clemson and Notre Dame will pull at least another 6. Then you will have other SEC and Big 10 schools poaching talent before you get to compete against Maryland and UVA.

Beamer won primarily by playing good defense and special teams. Foster is long gone and Beamer coached special teams. He was smart enough to work a system where he could recruit and win games. He was also at his best when Miami was mediocre.

this is why I said we should have fired manny last night.

realistically we're not even the best job open and now we have division opponents opening their jobs first
Stop with this false narrative that we're competing with every team out their for head coaches. If our HC position we're to come open today, we would be the 3rd best opening after LSU and USC. We're not competing with V. Tech, WSU or Washington for a coach. There are tiers and we'll be in tier 3 unless UF opens up as well. We'll have our choosing when the opportunity presents itself.

The obvious candidate would be Shane Beamer, but the likes of Freeze & Chadwell would be good candidates for that gig, too.
They gotta give my man's time to fix my alma mater (if he even can) first. No way they take a guy whose not even done with his first year as a HC. Especially son of one of their legendary coaches. I would think they'd wait until there is a better chance he succeeds.

The climb back to the ACC's upper-tier certainly would be easier if VPI was in NoVa, Richmond or the Hampton Roads instead of small town SW Virginia.

They really got to get it right both with a dynamic head coach and all hands on deck for the "NIL Game"

Just like we need to do when you get down to it

But yet let’s hold on to Manny for two more weeks. Does absolutely nothing to hold onto to that bozo
The difference is that the VT players don't like Fuente. Our young men are still playing hard for Diaz.

Secondly, you're not going to fire the AD and the HC in the same week.

Lastly, Manny's daddy stepped in to save face for the family. At the end the season, you will see the headlines say, "Manny Diaz and the UM administration mutually agree to part ways" rather than "Miami Hurricanes fire Manny Diaz."

If they get Hugh Freeze, they'll move themselves to that upper tier. I think he's a great fit to their program since he's coached in Oxford, MS and is already in Virginia at Liberty U.

Fickell, Napier, and Clark I think are the best from G5. In that order.

Clark just has the least shine about him. Very blue collar coach
He’s just a ball coach that wins championships consistently everywhere he’s been. He also already recruits south Florida and has players from Ft. Meyers/Miami northwestern/STA/Booker T. Washington on his team.

They were incensed that he was let go : argument is he did much good while he was AD, including athlete academics, fundraising, leadership roles within ACC committees, including chairmanship of a couple, They also went off a bit on the fan base about the perception that changes like this will "bring back" the good old days..... It was mainly Wes Durham - he seemed really angry. Packer was more understanding that football drives these kind of decisions

Wes Durham is a unc **** blowing ***get

Guilty as charged. I wasn’t on the board at the time but I admittedly thought both he and Herman were gonna kill it at their respective jobs.
I personally don't think Herman got a fair shake at Texas. He got fired after a 7-3 season but his 3 losses were to Oklahoma in 4xOT who finished the year #6, to Iowa State by 3 pts who finished the year #9, and to a Gary Patterson TCU team by 2 pts (they were always dangerous).

If some of the "A" listers (Mario, Lane, etc.) don't work out for us, I think we should give Herman a look.

I'm pretty sure I thought Herman was going to kill it too. He was already a hot name at a big time program in OSU and then he essentially kills it in state at Houston so it seemed like the best case scenario for him to go "up the street" to Austin and take over a behemoth program that obviously underachieved under Charlie Strong.

To be fair, the last 11 NC's have come from only two conferences. ACC with 3, SEC with 8. I mean sure, Clemson has carried the bulk of the load, but that is more than every other conference. Us getting back remotely close to what we used to be puts the conference up to Number 2 immediately.
To your point, us and VT get back, it is a **** good conference when you also have solid middle of the road teams like UNC, NC State, Pitt...........

You are forgetting Ohio State 2014 but your point is understood.
