JuCo Hooks: Coach Franklin is like a relative

How good is this guy? Is he the instant impact DT we are looking for?

Regardless of how "good" he is overall, he's going to be IMMEDIATE impact because we desperately need experienced older DTs on the DL. Besides Porter, Luther Robinson and Pierre are the only guys with any depth upper classmen experience. Pierre is still young and just starting to develop. That leaves a HUGE need for an experienced DT to put into the rotation as we are going to be losing D. Smith. If we can keep Porter, and he stays healthy, and the other two come back, this kids would fill the 4th slot in the DT rotation, giving us the ability to use maybe one other DT and letting the others develop and learn in the weight room. ****, we could even redshirt one or two guys who had to play this year, like Ivery.

That's another huge consideration--allowing those guys to dedicate an entire season to bulking up, putting in time in the weight room, etc. would serve us very well in the future.

What kind of strength and conditioning programs do these big time JUCO schools have?

Mostly non-existent. They have weight rooms, maybe an S&C coach, but nothing to the level they will get in a Division I program. That said, these are kids who HAVE hit the weights some, and have some experience. They have also grown more into their bodies and are older, so they have much more impact than a True Frosh at 18 would.

Something else to remember. SOME of these JUCOs are football factories to Division I. There are a handful in big states that cater to quality football prospects that cant make it into school, and those programs are much more sophisticated than your run in the mill local Community College.

The Mississippi JUCO System produces a lot of SEC level talent that comes in right away and play...they also have guys that take a year, but end up dominating (like Nick Fairley or Pernell McPhee).

Some players you might recognize from the MS JUCO System that play now...John Jenkins (NT for Georgia), Quinton Dial (DE for 'Bama), Brandon Moore (DT for Texas), Damien Jacobs (DT for UF), Denico Autry (Miss State)...

I see Franklin the way I see Coach D. Two well respected coaches with solid track records that AG re-hired (Coach D turned down HC position @ Temple to come) that both have chicken-**** to work with.

I said it before the season, and I said it during the season, and I'll say it after the season: I've never seen such a terrible level of talent at UM on defense since I became a fan in 1988. We have guys getting run that shouldn't be on a Miami scout team.

I know the numbers didn't show it for Duke or Virginia, but think about how much better our d-line got after Porter's return. Combine that with somebody like this, another year of utough and offseason coaching for everyone, and maybe a freshman talented enough to contribute right away. All of a sudden things start to look a lot better. Also, think about how quickly Golden turned around a secondary that had 0 players in it. I get that is an easier position group to improve, but I can't help being optimistic with his ability to get performance out of guys everyone else writes off.

Just saying I've seen this Ole Miss/SEC/JUCO story so many times I will have to see it go the other way first before I will really buy in.

Good luck getting him through admissions.

Seen this story before.

Jeremy Shockey
Andrew Williams
Ivan Mercer
Dalton Botts
Cortez Kennedy

And a **** ton of others say HELLO!

Then there are the recent kids

1. Darius Smith (Vomit)
2. Ladarius Gunter
3. Dalton Botts
4. Chase Ford
5. Patrick Hill
6. Kayne Farquharson

If the kid has the right CORE credits and decent grades, he will get in.

We've had plenty of Juco's get through admissions...not sure where that sentiment is coming from.

I'm sure Miami has looked at his transcripts and know how important all recruits getting in this year really is...especially at DT.
