Jon Drummond and Chad Wilson....and a question for Pete.....

Big difference between a "mentor" helping a kid that has no parents and a guy that runs a recruiting service promising players if you buy his product.

Anyone here actually see the movie "The Blindside"? Genron is no Sandra Bullock.

School is highly suspect. Ferman said it was the most bizarre school he's been to. Said it was basically a day care center sandwiched between two car lots in Hialeah.

I just don't get it. you guys know what you are getting with this site. these are not long tenured, incredibly well connected, or even necessarily credentialed writers. you are coming here for information without a premium price. if you have a problem with the type of connections the staff on the site makes, don't give them your business by driving their ad revenue. pretty simple, take it for what it is or take your time somewhere else, cause you aren't talking people out of what might be their top source by appealing to his morals or loyalty to the program.

thread was an entertaining read none the less.

So an administrator of this site thinks we should play ball with these shady characters? Interesting.

No disrespect, but I can tell you've also never done business in Louisiana.

It's not a matter of ethics. It's a matter of swimming WITH the current, not against it. Getting from Point A to Point B.

This is what happens when you bring in foreigners to run your program.

Yeah, the locals did such a bang up job last time.

No one has a problem where they get their info from.

They have a problem when they prop these guys to be something they are not. Then when everyone disagrees, they lock the thread.

Adapt or die

Wow. Really? Did we just not go through a period of turmoil where the death penalty was being discussed and we got off easier than expected because the NCAA ****ed up?

Please stop with the Death penalty... We wasn't going to get that... A few talking heads brought it up for attention but it was never a reality... There will never be another Death Penalty... Both OSU and USC committed infractions that were worse than us and they never came close to a death penalty... Death Penalty also includes a tv ban and they don't do that anymore... Opposing schools say it hurts them as well...

Everyone isn't getting paid, our coaches have to just win... The coaches in the area has always behaved like this... We just need to win... No complaining about it... Although they have flaws what good is it to get rid of those guys then anger the youth in the community? Like it or not these players look up to those guys...

I, for one, am appalled and disgusted by young Pete's attitude towards these street vermin.

There is no way as a program that you can lower yourself to their level and validate their existence.

WTF are these guys "mentoring" them with?

This all would truly make an excellent documentary.......anyone have a contact for Billy Corbin?

Any school that employs people like this should be outed, contacted, and pressured.

If by talking heads you mean Mark Emmert, NCAA president, then yes, he did in fact bring it up.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/6877907/ncaa-president-mark-emmert-says-death-penalty-option-punish-rule-breakers

http://nypost.com/2011/08/20/ncaa-president-says-death-penalty-on-table-for-miami/

He even stated that "if" the situation warranted it... Compare us to SMU? No compare us to OSU and USC... Our infractions doesn't compare... All he said was it exists... But the reality is wasn't getting a death penalty for free drinks, a boat ride and lap dances... Come on... That's all they punished us for... They couldn't find any of the allegations from 2002-04... So yes please stop with the Death Penalty...

C4L, Did you miss the part where Pete said Yearby had a handler? You think he got paid too?

You people see the word 'handler' and assume it involves shady dealings. A lot of these dudes grow up without fathers and so they have mentors, coaches, uncles, buddy from the block, etc. who are a part of their life and eventually become a part of their recruiting process. Some coaches consider those people 'third parties' and don't want to work with them but that's problematic. If a kid has been mentored by a guy since pop warner then why the **** would that person not be a part of their recruiting process? These are people they trust. That's what Pete means by embracing the third parties. But I guess its best to remain ignorant and accuse everybody of shopping kids for a payoff.

Yeah and they all charge $4.99 for the opportunity to see where these kids end up. I'm sure they take the time to drive them around for free and that McDonald/gas money really is McDonald, Gas money. No doubt that there are true mentors out there, but they are not latching to kids and charging for services.

You're jumping to conclusions brah.

I know you'll dismiss it but I can only tell you what I know from my experiences. One of my buddies got recruited and his uncle handled his entire recruitment. Both parents were in his life but they didn't feel they knew much and didn't want to deal with it. His uncle was a guy that trained him, did drills with him, etc. and helped him become the player he was. That dude drove him to all his camps, called coaches on his behalf, paid for his trips on unofficials, etc. Handled his entire recruitment. Somebody like you would probably think he's doing it for ulterior reasons and is dirty.

I know of multiple examples of these kind of arrangements. Are there some dirty handlers out there? **** yea. But don't make that assumption with everybody. Most of these dudes are poor as **** and have no idea how the recruitment process works, there's almost always a 3rd party.

I am not disagreeing with you that there are people in some of these kids lives, who are not their parents, who have the best interest at heart. I'm also not saying that this is wrong. If we want to call them handlers, that's fine, but the line is drawn when the "handler" is using the kid for financial gain. In the case we are discussing, which is Drummond and Q. Wilson, they are using the kids for financial gain. Someone like me doesn't think there is an "ulterior" reason, unless there is one and it's obvious because I'm not in the "in" to know who has a "handler" and who doesn't.

Charging people or receiving benefits from schools and trying to use different kids from year to year, as a mean to make a buck, is what I call a "handler" with "ulterior" reasons and someone who is "dirty".
