Jake Garcia thoughts

A lot.

Here are Miami's All-Time QB Recruit list.

Kyle Wright - .9984
Jake Garcia - .9775
Jarren Williams - .9614
Kevin Olsen - .9582
Kirby Freeman - .9440
Brad Kaaya - .9375
Robert Marve - .9373
Jack Allison - .9264
N'Kosi Perry - .9218
Tyler Van Dyke - .9173

Jake Garcia is basically a hair away from a 5-star ranking (5-stars start at .98). TVD was a low 4-star (4-stars start at a 90).

God **** that list is filled with a significant amount of slop.

We have done so little w/ highly rated talent. It’s absolutely mind boggling.

& just something that’s obvious we need some dawgs at WR that will help the QB out cause our guys currently been playing SOFT *Kobe Voice *

that's the key point i think.

i think matocha has got some interesting skills, and is better prospect than people are giving him credit for. the problem is, he's not as complete a QB prospect as TVD. can he keep TVD on his toes? yes, to a degree, just not in the way a guy like garcia can.
Payton is money. He was always a project that if it works out would pay off crazy. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear he was pushing TVD or Garcia one day

Just to add, he is the Hurricanes highest rated QB signee since Kyle Wright in 2003 and the second highest since 247 has these things tracked.

Since you mentioned ratings, I went back to 2011 and found every QB who matched or exceeded Jake Garcia's composite rating of 97.75. Here is the list. Any players who made the NFL are in bold:

Jeff Driskell
Braxton Miller
Jameis Winston

Gunner Kiehl
Max Browne
Christian Hackenberg
Kyle Allen
Deshaun Watson
Josh Rosen

Blake Barnett
Kyler Murray
Jarret Stidham

Brandon Wimbush
Shea Patterson
Jacob Eason

And here are the guys from 2017-2019, most of whom are still in college:

Tua
Davis Mills
Hunter Johnson
Jake Fromm
Trevor Lawrence
Justin Fields
JT Daniels
Dorian Thompson Robinson
Spencer Rattler
Bo Nix
Jayden Daniels

CA vs CT bias?
as Pro Style QB's, it was pretty comparable.

but TVD was underrated, and the staff figured that out after three practices
Agree, anti CT bias. If Van Dyke was from CA, TX or GA, it would be a different story. Don't get all wrapped up in rankings when we are talking about top tier HS talent. It it is highly suspect at that point at the QB position with some exceptions. Hence the high transfer rate. Both can play.

This kid is going to be special. To do what he did during covid tells so much on what he is and how is going to be.
Most kids would just stay at their school n chill. He went to multiple schools, learn the playbool and successfully led his team. That **** is rare. Im excited for this kid.

Payton is money. He was always a project that if it works out would pay off crazy. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear he was pushing TVD or Garcia one day
I liked his tape coming out of HS. Thought he had more of a chance to be "something" than most did. "Something" in this case being "serviceable backup than can hold you over for a game or two" at the very least.

You’re embarrassing man. Feeling good about something we do or someone we sign doesn’t make the person a sunshine pumper.
I feel good about James and Leonard. I'm not going to like everyone.....what am I suppose to force myself to like every pickup? TF?

Yes. He has good pocket presence mentally- he's not scared and he is aware of his surroundings. It's more about twitch.

He's shown flashes in that area (check the clips above) so hopefully he can continue to grow in that aspect.
How does he compare to Kaaya, who despite the re-write of history, was a very good passer

Great write up Dmoney.

I don’t know why or how some on this board developed this Elitist attitude that Jake Garcia a consensus top 50 prospect who some even think is a top 20 prospect. Isn’t good enough to play for the Canes (of the last decade)

According to 247 he’s the highest Graded QB prospect we’ve ever signed...I’m sure Kyle Wright would have been higher if they had the service back then.

but point is this kid can play and has exhibited that he has a deep deep love for Football.

there is no guarantee he lights it up but he’s at least got the pedigree you want.

and as you’ve said you stack these kids up, give an open and fair competition and let the best man win the job.

He's decent, again no big dogs beating the door down for him. Our o-line better get much better or he better get much faster.

most big dogs already have their QBs for the cycle locked up by now.

most top schools only take 1 QB per cycle so they have to lock in and you don’t decommit this late without a landing spot locked in.

Is there a short story on how he was ruled ineligible at one school in ga but was able to transfer to another school and play?

Hate to be that guy but I wasnt blown away with the film I just saw, arm doesnt look super strong and he doesnt look as accurate as i thought he owuld be for a pocket passer, then again I loved Kosis film outta high school, so I obviously dont know **** about high school QB evals.
