Jaccuri Brown is not hurt

I think Dawson is doing the right things. Not sure what “isn’t being done” because I think the things he needs to do to get better are being worked on.

One big thing with him that affects his accuracy is his feet and how his lower body integrates into his throwing motion. People don’t realize how even the slightest disruption in mechanics can affect accuracy, which in turn affects ball placement. (Those two aren’t the same thing). And it’s why watching how QB’s throw off platform is key to evaluating them, because if you throw the ball 30 times in a game, god blessed you if more than a dozen of those are from a perfect and timed drop where you don’t get thrown off platform even slightly. He got away for so long on just upper body arm strength, because you can in HS when you are as physically gifted as he is. And it’s hard at his age to change up quickly. When bullets are flying you have a tendency to revert to some bad habits.

I’ve worked with kids who have had some of the same issues, and accuracy problems that come from his type of mechanical challenges are not uncommon, but they are not always super easy to work through. It can be done, and he’s made progress, (the spring game didn’t well reflect his improvement), but it’s not a “flip the switch” process by any means. So it shouldn’t be expected.

I will say, the QB’s I’ve had the most success in tutoring/coaching are the ones where we’ve caught it quickly. It gets harder when you’re older.

@Lance Roffers can jump in as well if he has any thoughts.
Could you fix Anthony Richardson?

My point on this issue is that we're now in a position where Mario is trying to attract a Portal QB who can be a capable QB2 in 2023. That's a really tough needle to thread. What QB is good enough to be a reliable QB2 who will transfer without the ability to compete for the starting job? Given that, my opinion is that we would have been better off keeping Jake Garcia for at least one more year.

Garcia being listed as the #3 QB behind a lower classman coming into spring is code for, "Pack your **** and find another team." Now we're seeing just how far away Jacurri Brown truly is. We have no capable back up at QB2. The only way for Mario to come out ahead in this situation is for the following to occur:

Portal QB2 > Jake Garcia.

Again, that's gonna be a tough needle to thread. We'll see how it plays out.
I mean aren't we essentially looking for QB1 in 2024? Makes it an easier sell, right? "Sit behind TVD in 2023 and beat out Brown / Emory and a FR for the job in 2024".

I will say this yes he needs to improve his accuracy but one of his main parts of his game is taken away in the spring game. The fact that he can’t run like he wants to will limit him. In live action I think things would open up with the threat of him running on defenders minds.
It can open up all night long but if you can't throw 15 yards down field with accuracy it doesn't really matter now does it?

What mental/physical drills would you try on a project player like J Brown?
You didn’t ask me, but I’d definitely have my QB’s use virtual reality to get real-time feedback and reps on their own time.

That’s something I believe every collegiate QB should be using. It’s gotten to a pretty great level and accuracy.

Looks like the former Mack bammer didn't like my response, @RVACane

It's so funny
Why am I being dragged into this?

If we’re being objective, you shot him a 🖕 first and he returned the favor. Then I get @.

It makes no sense. And the frequent users of these reactions cause extra issues and are the reason I’d like to eliminate more of them.

If he looks like this next spring I’ll get concerned, until then let him grind. Kids a hard worker and a gamer , i don’t bet against guys like that, especially those with his athletic ability / physical talent. I don’t think some realized how raw he really was.
Agreed. I heard last night was one of his worst performance of the spring. Hopefully, next year, it’s different.

He couldn't run and that dynamic completely changes the stress factor and the way defenses play, but carry on with the overreaction of touch football in full pads

Dont sweat the small **** RVA. You're an intelligent and stand up dude, I know you want to conflict resolve as much as you can. Still, stay above the fray and let the dumb**** sort itself out, as in this case.

Let some of it run amock. It's free clicks after all. 😉

I was joking! Lol nothing serious. I thought it was funny.

But I legit forgot I have him the 🖕🏿.

🤦🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️

I don’t know about football but virtual reality has been extremely helpful for myself in the bedroom with real time feedback and reps.

The FSU kid who could only run made a big turnaround the last year, there's always hope for Jacurri. Kid seems like a smart, hard-worker who takes direction willingly - not ready to throw in the towel yet.
Jordan Travis is from class of 2018. It clicked at the end of year 4 in 2021.

I don’t see Williams as a disastrous #2. This is the portal world. Good teams might have a TF #2.

But Williams looks more like a #2 than Brown. I think they’d have to completely redesign things to maximize Brown and we can’t do that. Brown looks like a guy that is only functional in an offense that completely relies on running to make passing easy. We’re talking an updated version of old wishbone type stuff. He I had appeared non-functional as a thrower.
Williams will improve. What’s to say Brown will?

While I hope for the kid's sake and our sake that he improves into an NFL-quality passer, that's not necessarily the target. He just needs to be good enough to run a top college football offense.

If we project a couple years in the future, we should have an OL of 6'5, 325 monsters. If you add in a 6'4, 225 Jacurri Brown, your defense needs to worry about a tough runner who can brutalize you in short yardage while also having the ability for explosive house-calls. And if he hands off, you're talking about another physical monster in Mark Fletcher or a 10.4 speedster in Chris Johnson who can fly by if you get caught staring at Brown (think Demps and Rainey at Florida).

Jacurri needs to be able to throw well enough to take advantage of the heavy boxes he's going to face. If he improves his placement on horizontal throws, his zip will allow guys like Joseph and Washington to eat after the catch. And he will have opportunities for explosive plays down the field. This is a guy with natural twitch in his arm and playmaking instincts.

Jacurri laid an egg on Saturday but that wasn't the story all of spring. Cristobal said as much in his presser, and I can confirm. He just needs to keep working.
