It's Official: California to let college athletes make money, defying NCAA

This is so dumb. A big city market doesn't mean automatic contract. You still need to prove yourself on the field to get national brands have you endorse them.

What this law IS going to allow is the following: local booster owns a business and the university promises a recruit a $250,000 contract with the business if they sign with them. It'll be the bag game but over the table now. And just like the bag game, the schools with the most boosters backing them with the most money will win the game.
The most popular players in the country right now are Bama, Clemson, OSU and Oklahoma players. Any college football fan whether they live in New York or in Siberia can name you more players from Bama than he can on USC or Miami. Location doesn’t matter cause of TV exposure. Winning provides the most exposure and you have 6 or so programs that will spend whatever they need, to continue winning. This doesn’t level the playing field it just shifts how players get their money.

Schools like Miami still get the short end of the stick eventually.

Yeah that probably will happen for the 5 stars and top recruits. But that's not happening for 4 stars and 3 stars. They would benefit from performing well on the field and earning endorsements in a large market. Or earning money from club appearances and things of that nature.

Anyone. Literally anyone.

Lou Hedley bobble-head dolls. Jimmy Murphy "Rudy" T.V. ads for Gus Machado. You name it.
You really think it would get to that level in a market like Miami with professional athletes? I guess in local grass roots stuff to make a quick buck for these kids. Like hedley making an appearance at a tattoo shop for a couple hundred lol

Y’all really think people in Miami are gonna buy the jerseys of our kids? Lmao you’ll see the turncoats jerseys of the kids Bama and UGA poached everywhere.

“Good luck bro go feed the fam. I’ll be sure to buy your jersey.”

Exactly. Hmm, I wonder who the players will choose -- the schools that already have a gigantic built-in fan base and play on national TV every week, or Miami who plays on ACCN half the season and the nation cannot even name 2 players on our team.

SEC drops stacks on 4 star kids all the time. Also, you think 90% of the Miami market itself even knows more than 5 players on our team? Lol. The money will lie in cities and towns who live and breathe CFB, not big markets.

The money bags are losing value.... since an individual 5 star player on an average top 15 team can sell more of his stuff to its fans than a team saturated with super stars..

Plays won’t be able to appear in ads with UM gear without paying UM and the NCAA. Pete Rose is the ceiling of what they can hope for.

Racism
Lol at people who think the playing field will be leveled, especially with regards to UM.
You folks are living in la-la land.

Only people living in la-la land is people who think the SEC or NCAA is more powerful than the state of California.

There's a saying "as goes California, so goes the country."

Yall think Nick Saban is Jesus or something. Let me tell you...football is nothing more than a GAME, Nick Saban is nothing more than a football coach, and the racist, broke *** state of Alabama is probably the least influential in America.

The governor of California has REAL power. This bill is absolutely going to shake up the good ole boy network of the NCAA in favor of the California schools and those most similar to them.

This is the beginning of the end for Alabama, and all of the hick-*** schools that are currently on top.

They won't be able to compete.

Schools in big city markets are going to clean up

Doubtful. This will likely benefit the big schools as per usual.
