Is FSU Actually Good?

FSU offense - B- personnel and a B+ scheme with Malzahn and mainly how he fits their personnel
QB - B - Good dual threat, still not sold on his passing ability, but good fit for their system
RB - B - Sawchuk is mediocre but they do have solid depth there
WR - B+ - Added some talent via the portal. Some gadget guys as well
TE - C - Nothing to brag on there
OL - B - Hansen was a good add from Vanderbilt at LT and Pettus at RT from Ole Miss. Much needed size they didn't have a year ago. Petitbon at Center is very experienced and a good college player at the position. Still weak at Guard. Medley is ok but small and Richie Leonard is not good.

FSU defense - C+/B- personnel and an A scheme with Tony White
DE - C- - extremely mediocre at DE. The kid from Nebraska would be our 5th DE at best and the kid from Tennessee would be 7-8th on our depth chart
DT - B- - Darrell Jackson is a good college DT. 1st round measurables with an UDFA mentality. Makes his play pretty mediocre. Not high on Lyons and no real depth here.
LB - B+ - Big fan of Herring and Omar Graham. They have size/speed/experience at this position
CB - B+ - Wilson is very good. Rawls and the rest of the group not so much.
S/Rover/Nickel B- - Earl Little looks the part this year. Took a massive step. Good for him. Not high on Edwin Joseph, Barker, or Brown.

That's just my early evaluation. I don't think highly of Alabama and they've played no one else to even begin to judge them. Obviously better than a year ago and their players fit their schemes better. Big fan of Tony White.

-They won't be able to match up in the trenches
-They always have something gimmicky for us with Norvell. Malzahn is also known for the gimmicks and trick plays
-Tony White may have Beck in **** if we don't clean up our passing game on the bye week
-Strong run games/strong OL travel well
-Our DL will eat their OL alive but they get you with your eye discipline
-I don't really worry much about their WRs against our DBs
-Road environment could make it interesting if Brockermeyer isn't right

Expecting a 28-17 type of game. Using Alabama as the barometer - Our OL/run game are night and day. Our DL is far superior. They were missing Ryan Williams and Horton most of the game. Our defense looks far more disciplined and better coached. Beck is much more equipped to handle the protections and manage the game than Ty Simpson in his first road start. Those factors easily pull the 14 point deficit into a 10 point type of W.

UVA sucks and lost to NC State. We won’t learn anything from that game but people will over react.

Yes they beat Bama. Bama was also 5-5 in their last 10. Bama destroyed Wisconsin. So did Maryland.

We know nothing but I doubt they are everything the hype claims
UVA's offense will put up 30 plus on FSU. Now UVA's D may or may not give up more.

Agree with this. The key is limiting explosives, which of course is challenging because that's what they do.

They already have 6 plays of 40+ yards in their 2 FBS games. Last year, they had 11 in 11 FBS games.

Danzy and Lucas can scoot. Robinson is big and can go get the ball. But if we keep everything in front and don't let the fast kids get loose for massive gains, we'll win big. They're not going to have 8 or 10 play drives against us. Especially if we're keeping them in passing situations.

Castellanos will create some plays with his feet, I expect them to be a lot better on offense than UiF was but I just don't see them getting 30+ on this defense and I fully expect us to get there on offense.
Only thing better about their offense is malzahn runs a lot of gimmicks. As Mandy diaz showed gimmicks work. I fully expect this game to play out no different then it did when lashlee was here and we lined up against dudes who simply got physical and whooped the man across from them. Gimmicks don't work against physicality 9 out of 10. Also to pay attention to the stats they've put up makes zero sense as they've played absolutely no one except a basic bama squad. Other two games were throw aways. I don't take away the speed that they have. However let's not act like we haven't overall played **** good against the run. They're gonna try to get outside on us and that's the key. Communicate well, play disciplined football and don't let pre snap motion take you off your keys. Spy this lil **** & we're good to go. I can't see any way we don't beat them by three touchdowns or so. Not being ****y just being honest. Long as we're disciplined and communicate well this is no different from USF.

Bama is better than both. I actually think they are great value right t/w the ‘ship if you’re a gambling man.

Canes fan until I am dead and buried. PFF uses admittedly subjective analysis to determine big-time throws and there is no doubt that his number is inflated because East Texas A&M and Kent State are terrible.

He was a terrible passer last year and he still could be that terrible! I want to see him throw 9 picks as badly as you do, but I am just calling balls and strikes here.
If you want to know what it's going to look like go watch our last game against him when he played for BC. Except our OL and DL are much better this year.

They are in for quite the shock up in Trailerhasse.

Curious, how do you explain Tony White's scheme as being an "A"?

My biggest concern is 1) broken play big gains and 2) Our LBs not being fast. Will be interesting how much we play guys like Lightfoot, Pruitt, et al. KScott will be the biggest key for us on defense as he will be tasked to be close to the LOS to keep an eye on TC, imo

****, we essentially beat florida by 3 touchdowns, add 4 if they the SEC officials dont make good on the pay off and blow an early whistle

No they aren't that good
If they were wearing any other helmet, no one would have a concerned but it's a rivalry game

We'll know more about them after Virginia but let's not act like they haven't wiped every opponent away like windex so far this season
I'm not afraid of them but they will pose a challenge...especially in Tally

My perception really. I think he's one of the best DCs in the country. Probably top 5-7

Holy smokes if their offense is a B, I'd hate to see the A.

Hypothetically, let's say this was week 10 of the season. And there was a team (let's call them "SFU" in this scenario) that had decisively won its opening game against a SEC team that won 9 games the year before and looks to be a little bit worse this year. And then the next 9 games they played FCS teams and obliterated each of them by 8 TDs. Would you say SFU has an "A" offense or say it is impossible to give any rating since they played a laughably easy schedule? Personally, I'd throw out 8 of the games and have just one game as a data point. So whatever I graded them out for the opener is what their grade would be in week 10.

We’ll know more after Virginia IMO

Castellanos seems to be the same guy that he was at BC. Very dangerous runner, can improvise but he’s not a good passer.
He’s a better version of Byrum Brown from USF.

Their D didn’t look that impressive against Bama, feels like it was more Bama ****ting on themselves offensively. Very far from the talent ND and UF has.

For now, they are a good team but no contenders.
He is a shorter and smaller Byrum brown is a big boy. He is quicker. They have fast WR if our communication holds up we should be fine on the backend. Our offense RB will take over and if Beck plays at least C level or better he can take shots on them. I see a 41-17 if Beck gets his form back if not 31-17 game. I believe we will do the same game plan as Florida control the game with running game. They will get a few long TD. But little tommy will want no part or Bain.

I don’t think our LBs are slow
