Interesting stat

Per the Herald, yesterday’s rushing total (337) was the second-highest total since 2004.

In that span, we’ve had ten NFL backs. Last year, with one of those backs, we finished 112th in yards and 117th in attempts.

Excited to see what this running game does over the course of the year. It should remain explosive if uneven. I expect some stuffs and a lot of huge plays.
Sure but it was against UAB....and Canes committed to the run from the first snap.

People tend to forget that a strong running game translates to a better passing game. Sooner or later, the defense has to bring more players into the box to cover the inevitable run, that leaves openings for receivers to more easily get behind coverage. One well placed throw to an open receiver and six points goes on the board.

You've switched it to the RBs now. We have a QB who is arguably the best run threat from that position in college football right now. I think people are excited about the RUSHING GAME, which includes the super mobile QB, who could easily be an 800 yard rusher himself this year, which opens things up even more for our RBs.

King will kill it in the rushing game all year. It's going to be fun to watch.

The passing game was terrible. We had the lowest amount of passing yds last night of any of those last 7 CUSA games. It'll probably be frustrating to watch most of the year.

How far can we get with that combo? We'll see. From an overall perspective, I was hoping to see more last night, but it felt like more of the same.

Can you give it more than one game? One game where we chose to lean on the run game because it was working so well? When you run for 330 yards, there's no need to start slinging it all over the yard.

That's just smart football, and that's what smart coaches do. They'd rather run than throw when the run is working is so well.

There were some easy throws that King missed. Sam Howell missed some plays today too. So did Ian Book, who many are touting for the Heisman. Trevor Lawrence struggled for a few games last year early, and everyone was flipping out.

King threw for the least amount of yards of any QB vs a CUSA team last night.

It's not that he missed some throws, it's the way he missed that's concerning. This is what people aren't really acknowledging.

A free throw that hits the rim a couple times and bounces out and a free throw that's and a 2 foot short air-ball are both technically "misses", but they're not the same. King threw up some air-balls last night.

I enjoyed the win last night. You can enjoy the win and still acknowledge the numerous red flags waving right in front of you.

It was more of the same with the exception of beating a CUSA team by 17 instead of getting stomped by 2 CUSA teams. More of the same except we ran the ball significantly better than we did last year.

I understand and accept that everyone isn't wired like I am. I can't do the woe is me thing. If we wind up sucking, then I'll be ****ed off then. For now, I'm going to be a fan and try to enjoy my hobby.

It's the way he missed? I'm not even sure what that means. He missed some throws for sure. He's never been a dime dropper. If you ever expected that from him, then you got the wrong guy. That's not him. He's an incredible runner. A great leader. And a streaky passer who can hit some big throws once in awhile.

You give up the pinpoint passing in exchange for what he brings in the other facets. He opens up the run game and is a great steady leader. Will that be enough? We'll see. OU won a lot of games last year with a similar player. Auburn won a lot with Nick Marshall.

This pass was 2 yards over Payton's head AND 2 yards behind him. That's what I mean by the way he missed. Every pass over 10 yards was off target.

I'm not expecting King to hit him on the numbers. I am expecting him to keep it in his area code.

We looked much better than in 2019 when we lost 0-14 and 24-30 to CUSA teams in 2019 - when we finished 6-7.

We beat a CUSA team 31-14, similarly to when we beat a CUSA team 31-17 in 2019 - when we finished 7-6.

I'm still going to enjoy the games and the wins - but last night confirmed we should have hope, but not expectations.

What were our rushing numbers in our last game against La Tech. Go ahead and tell me about 2013, but tell me first about the last game we played last year against a similar opponent.

My good man, bshaw has to hate on something. He doesn’t have Mark Walton around to be his whipping boy, so now he’s just going to hate on the entire team until he finds a new victim. My guess is he’s going to target King.

LOL. So if he missed him by less it would be OK? Come on. Either you make that throw, or you don't. He pulled the string and missed it. It happens.

He also threaded the needle on a nearly impossible throw to Jordan that he dropped. Gotta take the good with the bad with King. I think there's way more good after what I've watched here over the last 20 years, but if you don't that's cool. Do your thing.

Spoke too soon.

Bshaw is already targeting King.

This clown is nothing, if not consistent.

He’ll be shltting on King all season...just watch

So that wasn't a terrible pass to Payton - just a simple miss. Sure...why not

Maybe King running the ball at the end of the half instead of throwing it into the endzone was actually a smart decision. Sure...why not

So this pass was on target, and was on Jordan as a drop. Sure...why not

UAB's last for games they've given up:

31 to Miami
35 to Central Arkansas
31 to App St
49 to FAU

But UAB has a good defense. Sure....why the **** not

Kings last 6 games he's thrown for

141 yds
229 yds
129 yds
138 yds
167 yds
82 yds

But expressing concern about this would be ridiculous. Sure...why the **** not

You really got me on the Walton thing @OriginalCanesCanesCanes

Headed into the draft 2018 I was arguing against people that said:

Walton will be better than Duke Johnson
Walton's career will be similar to Matt Forte
Walton is better than Nick Chubb
Barkley is the 4th best RB in the draft, and 2nd rounder and Walton is a 2nd/3rd rounder

I told those 4 people those Walton was nowhere near that level of talent - and you're absolutely right @OriginalCanesCanesCanes - I look like a complete clown for saying that.

Still on the Walton hate?

I thought your new hate object was King. Sure looks like you’re giving it the old college try, replacing Walton with King.

Did King smash your mom like Walton did?

You know that connection gets made later in the season. This is the effect of a lack of a spring practice and game. Most teams are rustier than usual.

You convinced me. King is trash. Give me the razor when you're done.

OH MAN...I literally wrote out "I'm sure you'll say something about Walton banging my mom or girlfriend or something" - but then I deleted it because I thought you might not say it!

But of course you said that. I'm laughing my *** off. You're too good. I'm being 100% honest - no sarcasm - you're my favorite poster on this board.

Who better to start a smear campaign against if you're a true Canes fan than our best QB in 20 years? Let's go! King is trash! He missed a wide open Payton in the endzone, and we lost to UAB as a result.
