I was talking to a football person who is familiar with our roster but not on staff. We were talking quarterbacks, and I mentioned that Cam Ward was a combo guard in hoops while Carson Beck was a third basemen. It’s a discussion I’ve had on here and the show to describe their respective styles of play.

The person agreed but took it a step further. He pointed out that in basketball, the ballhandler controls the pace of the offense. He can hold the ball for 23 seconds if he wants to, as long as it ends with a bucket. But a third baseman has to get to the ball and get it out of his hands with as much quickness and velocity as possible.

This, to me, is the best description of Cam and Beck that I’ve heard. Cam will hold it and create massive plays. Beck will get rid of it quick. The offense might look different this year, but it should still be very good.

I agree 100% with this D, but it’s important to at least mention the flipside of cams style, which is mind-boggling interceptions he threw playing like that. Don’t get me wrong, he also made amazing plays too but he also made terrible plays with that style. That’s why I continue to believe, that our offense will be more efficient this year because Beck won’t make those same mistakes, he’ll take the check down if it’s open. Which with our offense, 99.9% of the time it is open. At the bare minimum, if Cam takes the check down at Georgia Tech, we win that football game and we’re in the playoffs.

That style wasn’t the cause for those terrible picks. He just had a habit of at times he seemed he was like f it and just slung the ball up. Most of those came when nothing was there

That doesn’t make any sense. Sounds right coming from you though.

Do you think our offense will resemble the style of play we hoped to have in 2023? By that I mean the TAMU and GT games. In the GT game it was revealed to the world that TVD cannot be trusted downfield so everything changed, but in those 2 games our gameplans were aggressive, fast, and attacking all over the field.

I have seen the media and certain insiders saying we are going to revert to a mario style offense that moves the chains, pounds the rock, and controls possession. Do you think we will have that identity, or does dawson let the boys loose with an explosive attacking offensive scheme like he hoped for in '23?

well, technically, this is incorrect. In college basketball, a ball handler cannot "hold the ball for 23 seconds if he wants to"; a ball handler in college basketball has five seconds to either dribble, shoot, or pass the ball if a defender is within six feet of the ball handler.

As mentioned Ward is/was a different QB then what Beck is. Ward definitely produced lots of big plays and we scored a ton of points, but sometime complementary football is the way you win games. Meaning if Beck is still accurate and making the quicker safer decisions moving us down the field and using up time of possession I wouldn't be exactly upset about that. It keeps our defense fresh and off the field.
