Interesting point re: our offense

That style wasn’t the cause for those terrible picks. He just had a habit of at times he seemed he was like f it and just slung the ball up. Most of those came when nothing was there
And because of that it is his fault because that’s the style he plays with. He holds onto the ball too long, when on each of those interceptions, the check down was open. Beck will take the check down.

There are very few QBs I'd rather have than Beck this year. That being said, I don't full agree with him being categorized as a "safer" QB that makes the easy throws / check downs unlike Cam. His INT rate was almost double Cam last year (2.7% vs 1.5%). Beck, like Cam, also made some risky/dumb throws last year. Hopefully with a better OL, OC, and run game that comes down to his 2023 level (1.4%).

It may be better to look at Cams INT rate the year before he had our OL (at Wash St)...hopefully this can give a glimpse of what Beck should be able to do with our OL. I do believe our line will be considerably better than what Beck had at UGA last season.

The offense will be Shannon Dawson's offense. He's not going to do anything different. He wasn't running Cam on designed runs, etc. that he won't run this year. I'm not saying he won't have personnel wrinkles and/or different plays than last season. Of course he's going to continue to evolve and adapt his offense to the pieces he has to play with. But it's going to be his offense and very, very similar to what we ran last year.

There is nothing that Dawson asked Cam to do last year that Beck can't do. What Beck likely *won't* do is improvise as much in the pocket. But they're both big, strong, elite throwers of the football with pinpoint accuracy. And Beck will likely be afforded similar time to throw that Ward was last year. The offense really shouldn't miss a beat, provided we have dudes who can catch it when it hits them in the hands. That's my biggest worry on the entire offense. I know Dawson will keep the system QB friendly. I know the OL is going to give Beck a lot of time to throw, more often than not. I know when Beck is afforded a lot of time to throw, he is one of the literal most accurate passers of the last several seasons, not just in the country this year. So, when the QB has time, and he throws to an open receiver, and the ball is delivered accurately....can the receiver catch it? The group last year did this very, very well. I need to see it from this group. Especially Week 1, ND has the best secondary we'll see all year. There's not going to be limitless opportunities to catch passes in space. When we get them, will we make the plays? On 3rd and 8, when Beck hits someone in the chest with a football 13 yards down the field, they gotta hold onto it. We had a kid last year named Xavier Restrepo, if a ball was thrown anywhere near him, he caught it. **** near every single time. We got kids this year who will do the same? If so, this offense will be lethal again.

I mean Carson beck has throw for 72% and nearly 65 % against SEC competition. It’s not like that he can’t be efficient in his own way compared to Ward.
Efficient in his own way More efficient than the 2024 offense

That A&M gameplan on offense had me ready to tell every lie imaginable. Had some really creative wrinkles in that game plan if I recall correctly, especially in the red zone. I think there was a motion play that we faked run and had Colby Young spring open in the flat for a TD and then we had Jacolby George fake speed motion and then hit back outside where TVD faked the run and had him wide open in the flat again. Just wonderful playcalling that day.
I think we only witnessed that Colby Young TD play once more during the season though it worked so well.

I was talking to a football person who is familiar with our roster but not on staff. We were talking quarterbacks, and I mentioned that Cam Ward was a combo guard in hoops while Carson Beck was a third basemen. It’s a discussion I’ve had on here and the show to describe their respective styles of play.

The person agreed but took it a step further. He pointed out that in basketball, the ballhandler controls the pace of the offense. He can hold the ball for 23 seconds if he wants to, as long as it ends with a bucket. But a third baseman has to get to the ball and get it out of his hands with as much quickness and velocity as possible.

This, to me, is the best description of Cam and Beck that I’ve heard. Cam will hold it and create massive plays. Beck will get rid of it quick. The offense might look different this year, but it should still be very good.
Shocker, given that I have said this about 25 times at this point.

Expect a drive like the Florida one in 2019. Bubble screens, short passes, easy stuff that gets the offense going vs what Notre Dame loves to run.

Do you think our offense will resemble the style of play we hoped to have in 2023? By that I mean the TAMU and GT games. In the GT game it was revealed to the world that TVD cannot be trusted downfield so everything changed, but in those 2 games our gameplans were aggressive, fast, and attacking all over the field.

I have seen the media and certain insiders saying we are going to revert to a mario style offense that moves the chains, pounds the rock, and controls possession. Do you think we will have that identity, or does dawson let the boys loose with an explosive attacking offensive scheme like he hoped for in '23?
I would argue that Dawson will be able to open up the offense much more compared to what people expect and yet the first 15 will probably be easy plays to get the offense into a rhythm.

But Dawson will allow Beck to make all sorts of reads and change protections, which is a major plus in college ball. Most QBs do not even have allowance to audible a play.

I like Dawson but the screen game is a little baffling at times

We seemed to run it to the short side of the field with less quick and elusive players

I might be misremembering but felt like that was one thing I couldn’t understand

I love the screen game in a game like this but I think we could have done it a lot better with some simple changes

Granted I’m just some ****head message board poster

Dawson =< Monken. Dawson > Bobo by landslide

It definitely seems odd he likes to run it to the short side of the field when logic tells us to get it to play makers in space.

That is a good point to illustrate their different mindsets.

I'm hoping Beck looks more like his '23 self than last year. 8/31 can't get here quick enough.
Hes going to have a good/great run game and I'd be willing to bet our receivers don't lead the country in drops. I also don't think our OLine will give up 25 sacks. These are all the things he dealt with last year. We'll be fine on offense.

Yes, just the way Cam changed probably 50% of the plays called last year. Maybe more. Personally, I don't give Dawson as much credit. Cam called that offense in alot of ways..

I couldn’t agree more…

I’ve been saying that this entire time skipper…

If we get ‘23 Beck NOT ‘24 Beck we good…

We don’t need him to be better than Cam, we need him to be better than his ‘24 self…

Didn’t help that our options for screens were:

A physical specimen that couldn’t catch
A 150 pound guy that came up limping at an almost Stacy Coley-esque rate
4.8
Someone who can apparently only catch the ball when he’s wearing a garbage bag over his jersey who I’ve yet to see make a single defender miss

But yeah, short side screens are one of the most infuriating play calls in football to me.
