I like this class

hopefully Golden can twist an arm or two and get Johnson into school without an online course

it sounds like he would come here if it weren't for that

then get a guy like Derricott at linebacker

Why is it worrisome that a true sophomore couldn't supplant a senior that knows the defense inside and out?

Why doesn't Kirby also know the defense inside and out? Kirby is more physically talented than Kirby and should know the defense as well as Gaines. They should have the same exposure to the defense since we didn't run this in Golden's first year here.

Also, I'm assuming that as the Mike next year, Kirby will be making the calls that Gaines was making this year.

Geez, why isn't a sophomore as far as along as a senior?

Japancane just gets it.

My issues:

RB - Gray may not qualify. No power backs (need a true power back that can move the chains on 3rd and short). I love Yearby and Powell, but in a year with Michel and Cook both in South Florida...complete failure if we don't get one... I'm sorry.

TE - Losing both Beau and Warlord next year. Cleveland also gone. We really don't know how good Dobard is.....we could use another TE imo.

OL - No true OG that can push the pile and maul people dead. McDermott, and Gibbons are Tackles, Linder a center. Darling probably could play OG too, but is being brought in as an OT.

DL - Rare for freshmen DT's to be a significant impact....and our current DL Core is not so great. To have a big year in 2014 we need instant impact JUCO's and we only have ONE. Not Good

LB - This is the worst unit on the team IMO. The though of no Perryman + this defensive scheme has me shook. Would be nice to have a JUCO that can play right away or even a monster LB recruit with a high ceiling. Don't get me wrong, I do like the guys we have committed, but I'm worried about addressing the immediate needs.

WR - Could be wrong, but I don't see any instant impact guys in this class at the moment. Brady/Langham could probably redshirt. Berrios will be a nice reliable WR to move the chains. Not the end of the world, but it would be nice to have another weapon like a Dixon.

DB - Just not cutting it at the moment. Must get JC Jackson and 2 more safeties. Our Safety depth is hilariously bad. smh

So yes, we do have alot of holes relative to our needs imo.

They both had two years in the system. It's not as simple as senior vs sophomore.

Yo Dan, you seem somewhat knowledgable..What other DTs are we looking at from what you know? Seems like the cupboard is getting bare here. And depending on MWyche to be the starting NT next year is a no go in my eyes..

Where is Paranos when you need him?

Why do we need an instant impact WR?

Injuries happen. Did you not see how we went from having an extremely deep, and talented WR core to gimping around with Hurns, Waters and Coley?

You cultivate talent because injuries happen.

Sure, and we've got 4 WRs committed right now, and all look to be very talented. It would be nice to get an instant impact guy every year but I don't view not getting one as a failure in recruiting.

And why is Dixon an instant impact guy? He's not all that productive in high school, but he's going to set the world on fire as a college freshman?

From all accounts he's a great route runner and is physically ready to play this year. What more can you want?

Brady and Langham both are redshirt candidates according to Pete and Gray may not qualify.

Berrios will be good for us in the slot ala Pimp Collier.

Honestly, I'm not worried about impact guys for offense next year. They're not necessities but they'd be nice to have and you never turn down studs. My biggest issue is with our front 7. DT, LB and safety are all causes for concern.

We don't need an instant impact WR next yr and we are bringing in a ton of talent at the position this yr (what if Griffin someday shows up?). Thats just Valid throwing **** against the wall. It's also laughable to say anything about our OL recruiting, but he tried. Not giving Herndon any props at TE is a joke lol. Saying we need a big back when Gus the Bus just had a good freshman year funny....and ****ting on two great 4 star back in Powell and Yearby because of Cook and Sony. Terrible lol

DT and S are the only two complaints that make sense, IMO....but people are crying about RB.

Ridler80, I see your concerns. But also remember it is Dec 11th. Not Feb. 3rd. Al has two more months to find some DTs that can play. And if you think he doesnt know that our DT depth chart next year looks like the one from 1997, then you underestimate him. He knows we cant go to war with Earl Moore and Corey King in our 4 deep. Give the man some time..

As far as LB, not fair to rely on RKirby as a sophomore. (true sophomore at that) He wasnt ready to play. And to throw him out there would have made the defense worse. He is in his 3rd year next year..He knows its time to step up. If he doesnt? Then you are right, we are phucked.

For some reason I am not too concerned about Safety. Who the **** remembers who are backup safetys were in 1987? (When Bennie Blades and Darrel Fullington started) Or how about 2003? (When Sean Taylor/Greg Threat/ and I believe Maurice Sikes were the starters) Point being, if you have 3 stud Safetys and they all stay healthy..You will be okay. Staying healthy is the key. One of them gets hurt and obviously we are phucked. But cant you say that about most of the positions on our roster?

I keep hearing that Dixon is a guy who looks great in shorts but not so great in pads. I know he made some plays late in the year, and I'm not discounting his talent (would love to have him in this class), but I'm not sure he counts as an instant impact guy. Coley is an instant impact guy, Sammy Watkins is instant impact, Lane was supposed to be this year's instant impact guy and I have my doubts about him too.

Who said anything about the OL, TE or RB? I said having an instant impact guy like Dixon or Cook would be nice, but not necessities. You stack talent when it's available.

Also, I've said that offense isn't really a concern of mine. Just that accenting what we have would be nice.

Jassid, Kirby may have been a true sophomore, but he was also an EE that had the same amount of time in our current system as Gaines. There was no extra advantage Gaines had over Kirby except for being older.

Also, everything I said about DT came with the caveat of "for now." I know that Golden realizes our DT situation isn't where it needs to be, but he isn't gonna find some stud this late in the game that's worth a ****. The DTs we've gotten on late have all been underwhelming with minimal, if any, big time offers. King, Briscoe, Darius Smith, Derosier, Ivery. None of those guys were highly saught-after. If there are any guys left that we'll be jumping on now, prepare to be unimpressed.

Why are you focusing on one part of my argument? What about the rest of it: DT, LB or safety? I've already said that WR isn't a necessity and accenting it because you can is nice, but not needed.

I approve this thread. Its a very good class but our most important needs have not been met. JUCO recruiting is a disaster at the moment. Even if we move Mayes to safety, the numbers and talent isnt right in this class. Plus we need a JUCO LB if Perryman leaves, which looks to be the case. We need a solid team next year to continue having momentum in recruiting. If we go 8-4/7-5 next year it will kill that momentum, all the while FSU is gonna be beastly. Back in 2012, when we were recruiting the 2013 class, we heard how talented 2014/15 were gonna be for S FL, our main recruiting ground, and how those classes were gonna put us back on top. Well 2014 is here and we got to make these next two count, because even with all the talent S FL has year in year out, you cant expect every year to be like this and next. Must capitalize on this opportunity......
