I’m not reading any other threads.

the instant lashlee called a halfback draw on 3rd and 7 on the first drive of our game, i knew what kind of afternoon it was gonna be. i just have no idea what goes through that dude's head sometimes. i was actually relatively encouraged by our defensive line. that's the best OL they're going to see all year by a considerable margin, and among the best and most mobile quarterbacks they'll see. against ACC opponents we would've been collapsing the pocket relatively frequently.

the thing that really gets me though is it just felt obvious that manny and lashlee coached scared. dropping back into zone, the repeated runs up the gut, etc...just man up and let the best man win, **** it! it probably would've yielded a similar result but we would've at least stood a chance of making it just a little bit interesting.

Don’t feel like you need to read mine, I just needed to stretch my fingers.

Ahh, well this sucked, didn’t it? I said it in the game day thread but I expected this type of outcome, still, seeing it unfold was excruciating. It’s like the friend you know keeps going back to the same relationship or vice over and over again, and you’re still there for him, but buddy is going to **** his life away no matter what you do. This game was a bad idea and I’m glad it’s over.

There are only two tiers of college football right now:

1. Bama/Clemson
2. Everyone Else

OU, OSU, UGA, might cycle through Tier 1 every few years, but they don’t have the same fine print in their deal with the devil. They will always be so, so, so close, but rarely ever achieve excellence. Trust me, those programs do the exact same soul searching we all do, they just do it once a year instead of 3 times (or 5 on occasion).

Now, onto why I’m relatively upbeat, because I am, dammit. (I’m also not upset with anyone who wants to burn all their new merch and/or wants Diaz fired even more than they did before kickoff. I just hope you all have the balls to quit following the team for a few months. But you don’t.)

- MENIAL FORTITUDE - As much as I hate the celebrating after a play being down 30, I think this team actually has a chance to not get mentally throttled down after this loss. That’s good, and it showed in the late game drives.

- THE BALL CATCHERS AIGHT - I think we have 4 solid WRs who will score a lot of points this year, which is an amazing turnaround from last season. Unthinkable, really. If King doesn’t average 250 ypg something is wrong (and something may be wrong), because the players are there and they are more than good enough, imo. Key Smiff had to be subbed out multiple times because Josh Jobe was crying so loudly the refs threatened to suspend the game. That’s not a knock on Jobe, Key Smiff just steals your game and treats it like a voodoo doll.

- OH **** NO, OL YES - The OL is fine. I don’t think it’s amazing, but it was just flat out overmatched against the strongest unit in the country. I think we should abandon anything like a dive up the middle, however, because it makes the game of football sad and me very angry.

- DEFENSIVE FINE? The DL was better than I thought. Young was on the move all night, which only seems to give him a force multiplier. In an normal game against regular humans, it will not be that way. The DTs in particular, and Harvey, looked solid and very well conditioned. I expect to be pleasantly surprised by the results of this unit over the course of the season. Bama averaged 3.9 YPC, which doesn’t even make sense to me.

- FAIR CONDITIONING - Conditioning in general seemed improved. Especially for a D that got drug around all game and often had Enos-era breaks between series, they held up well and that speaks to their mental as well as physical conditioning.

- THE DON, p1 - The Man needs to be the lead back. I love Cam, glad he’s a Cane, but sometimes it’s like he looks for ways to get tackled. I know it’s almost impossible to improve an RB’s vision, so it’s unfair to think he’s going to suddenly bloom into Christian Okoye. He is what he is and works through traffic like a semi. Don is game ready, he's punishing and sound in every aspect of the game. Plus he’s just a complete back.

- THE DON, p2 (The Man Who Sent Toto to Kansas) - I will henceforth only refer to Don as The Man. He broke To’o’to’s shoulder, even though Toto had a clean kill shot ****ed and loaded like he was Dr. Disrespect with the only sniper rifle on the map. Instead his lame a** got recoiled to the moon, and from my couch I wept at the sight. I cannot and will not legally marry that otherwise insignificant play, but I will carry its legacy in my bosom like an unborn child.

- LASH IS TRASH? Guy is a genuine WTF for me. I do not understand what he’s trying to do, or when he’s trying to do it. The marriage between him and King is like that awkward couple who “should work” but just can’t get over the fact that the love each other without liking each other. I don’t get understand their chemistry at all, but I’ve only had a few relationships and they were all super short until I found THE ONE and we’ve been together ever since. Both the dudes running the O act like kissing cousins in these games and it slows everything down dramatically. Can’t run tempo when your flow is mud.

- SOME DUMB SUMMARY - Manny Diaz is who Miami DESERVES at this point, for better or for worse. For every on-field reason we couldn’t compete with Alabama tonight, there are 3-5 reasons off the field we couldn’t. Diaz is trying as hard as humanly possible to figure this out, and he’s probably going to be in over his head in games like this for the next several years. He's never going to win more than the ACC, but right now Miami could not do more than that with Nick Saban himself, I kid you not. We are in the morass of Tier 2, like it or not, until I die. Unless we molt this skin and become a beautiful butterfly.

- SMS, p2 - I think Alabama probably scores 40 points on 95% of the teams in America tonight. That’s not a cover for the defense, it’s just worth considering. If app state scores 40 then ok yeah the D has covid. I just don’t know yet, and somehow I’m more concerned about the performance of the O than I am the D.

GOODNIGHT, GO CANES!

Will tell you the same thing I told RVA earlier, pretty much.

Mopes, slurpers, we’re all coming from the same place. What this game does is it gives us all CLARITY. We know where we are and we know what it’s going to take.

Alabama is the standard. Most people would consider me a mope but even I would say, we’re not THAT far away. We lost but we weren’t blown off the field.

Alabama didn’t win this game tonight. They won the game last February. Two Februaries ago. Three.

They won the game when they hired an ex NFL coach to coach their OL, and another to coach the offense.

If all Miami fans understood THAT, and demanded excellence 365 days a year, instead of just one day, then we would be able to takr these guys.

Honestly we looked better than I thought we would. We can bring this program back, but I hope everyone understands now that signing a bunch of south florida 3 stars and hiring “up and coming” coaches from lower tier schools isn’t the path.

We need Miami to make a real commitment to football and for the big money deciders to DECIDE to make this program great. The shoestring approach isn’t working and it never will again

SIAP, but it's kind of perfect that it says, "menial fortitude." I did love the post, though.

THANK YOU!!! No shame in getting blown out but we didn’t put our best players on the field. Atleast the young guys who did play can learn a lot from this game.
my problem is playing the older kids who show they arent good. just let the young pups play. we had kids show us they can play with bama and they were all first and second year players. Also, people dont get that Manny didnt take DC because he's a control freak. he tried get a couple top guys including Muschamp and they took other jobs. He needs to learn that some older guys need to sit the bench.

Your right. Manny should be in year 3 at temple right now. Instead he’s learning on the job here. I’m not too down after this one cause we looked better when the young guys played.

Bubba comes out and the secondary looked better. Flagg didn’t look out of place. Even Oluwasen held up when we benched Scaife. I bet LT & Chase would’ve made plays if he got a chance.

The talent is there to beat everyone on our schedule if we play them.

no way ford should be in a game over LT. Ivy should not be in over anyone. Jennings should be on bench. Flagg made plays.

I’m baffled on how this post isn’t getting destroyed. Maybe cause some hours have passed. I do this and don’t see the light of day lmao

these kids just dont belong.
Facts. Restrepo is better than Harley. Don better than Cam. Etc.

Hopefully Manny doesn’t make the same mistake in the qb room. Let TVD transfer before you let Garcia go.

I wonder if OSU fans were anywhere as stupid as our fans after they lost by 28 points in the national championship game.

I saw opportunities for improvement and a whole lot of reasons for optimism.
I'm optimistic. Our guys didn't quit and fought to the very end. After the 1st half, I thought Bama was going to score 70+.

The 2nd half was a lot more competitive and it's what I expected to see in the 1st half. I thought Lashlee's 1st half play calling was too conservative and predictable. It handcuffed our defensive by giving Bama way too many 1st half possessions.

I think the next 2 weeks against good competition will show who we are.

LOL you have to see progress before committing to another 5 years of this ****. You can see right now there is an 85% chance Diaz isn’t the guy. Good coaches turn things around in 2/3 years. If Diaz wins out or gets 10 and a bowl win then we can talk but this team is closer to 7-5 than a major bowl appearance.
You can't turn a program around completely in 2-3 years. It takes longer than that to get the personnel where it needs to be. This was a rebuild, no matter what people think. It was broken from the inside out. I think it's come a long way from two years ago- no one rationally expected to win this game today.

yeah. TVD is a deer in headlights. Garcia has swag, I hope its him.

K Smith, James Williams, Kam, even flagg looked like they belonged, we are a class away from being 2 deep. We really need to fix the front 7 on defense.

oh and anyone is better than ivy

This coaching staff is better than the Golden and Richt staffs. I mean, if I wanted to follow an elite programme I wouldn't be posting here anymore.

We improve every year - even if they're small improvements. Am I happy about losing to FIU, LTech etc? No, but that's where we're at as a football team.
TRob’s job isn’t really to fix Ivey. It’s to replace him with talented CBs.
I look forward to him being accountable in 2-3 years

He's too loyal to guys who may be good character, locker room leaders but less talented athletically.
