How good is Akheem Mesidor?

Miami should've been ranked 9 instead of Bama. That kind of got lost in the whole Miami/ND debate but we were all just happy to make it in (whoch obviously makes sense).

But Bama's side is significantly easier imo.

Blount is a factor on the play also. It’s just a RB but he bullies 22 back into Reed playing a factor in him having to shuffle to his left and late on the throw.

At Mesidor's age, he'll be 30 when his first contract is up. Age 29 for this 5th year option. Not ideal for a R1 pick. It happens, but not often. Thats more of a R2 or R3 if they are a stud. Inuries and medical bill of health also important. Players like Myles Jack went later than anticipated because they felt his knee would be dust during his second contract...and it indeed turned into dust.

West Virginia had him playing NT. He used to play 0-tech in their 3-3-5.

So much of a players visibility comes down to how they're used. Mesidor was excellent in this game. Gets upfield too much at times and loses gap contain, but he makes up for it in so many other ways.

When I reviewed this game it actually upset me that Cashius Howell was 1st team AA and neither of Miami guys were. Both are far better college players.

Did anyone else just see that breakdown on ESPN a minute ago during the Western KY - Southern Miss halftime show about Mesidor and Bain? They showed how on one of Bain's sacks, Mesidor had his right foot planted in a way that enabled his left foot to go around the LT and step THREE YARDS in a single step. When he did this, he forced the QB to move up and then run backwards. Bain then made a great play off of his man and got the sack. It was an excellent breakdown and really showed their skills and teamwork.

If I see video of it on twitter or something, I will post it.

Iron sharpens iron. Those guys and our NFL-level OL are going at it every single day making each other better. Mario may take it too far with his bro-ball tendencies. But I absolutely love being the team that wins and often dominates in the trenches.

But who says you have to resign him at that point? You'd be getting a guy for what should be his best years on a rookie contract. They're overthinking this like it's the NBA and you're investing in someone longterm. People say NFL stands for "Not For Long" for a reason. Get those good 4 or 5 years for cheap, then move on.

It’s a football player who is likely not going to play for your organization for more than 5 years. All things being equal, of course the younger guy is the move but I’m not passing on a quality player just because he’s going to be past his prime by the time he’s looking for a second contract. If anything that makes the decision to re-sign or not even easier.

Mesidor is good. He has the size, quickness, change of direction to play at the next level. Probably a rd 2 or 3 pick. Bain is definitely too big for his size at DE for the next level. U can tell by his change of direction and how much thicker he is compared to Mesidor, pause. Still a beast though, but I can guarantee he moves inside in the NFL.

That, to me, is exactly the type of team that should be looking at. Teams in the top half need to worry about building long term. Teams near the bottom are just looking to fill holes on the cheap to win now with guys ready to contribute right away.
