How do we catch up to the elite programs?

The benefit of being UM is everyone knows it can be done here. That alone makes it easier than 90% of other jobs.

The 10% holding us back is high level coaches and assistants generally don’t come here because there is no recent track record of sustained success on the field or in administration.

If and when we show a stable, consistent, competent program, this will become a more desirable destination.

Maybe 2020 was the first sign, but one year is not a pattern and could still be looked at as an anomaly.

Do you mean coaching staff wise? Because we have more talent than UNC does according to recruiting rankings and blue chip ratio.

Yeah sure, so they can give James a raise and manny an extension? No thanks. No one trusts the school to spend it wisely, and they shouldn’t because they have proven incompetent.
 
I remain adamant that if you find the right HC, you can have a top program. BUT it takes a competent athletic department and budget to make that happen. We lack the latter, so the former doesn’t matter. Our entire athletic department is run like a NAIA liberal arts college

We don’t need King to hold his jock strap...We know that..We needed King loong ago years ago..back we had jacory Harris ..Harris could been a really good Qb but imagine if We had King instead of JH..by now we would b relative by now because We would have had a Watson come through the program after a King left...QB1 is the best thing We had in a very long time and he setting a culture that We desperately needed and hopefully a Watson is already in the QB room..TVD..Matocha R JG..maybe Perry..it start with quality QB play and when that happens things start to happen in your program..Culture..Winning and a Quality QB..key word Quality and then We will get the 5stars and Quality coaches.. the Saban..the Myers.. the Dabo..playbook..so don’t make comments like that about our QB1...it’s all about the U baby..Lol

That wouldn't even matter. You would also have to rope three to five friends in with checks as well.

We will never be the national power like we were in our glory days where we competed each year. There just isn't the following for that.

The only way we get even a chance is with the right staff that we identified early and they maximize our recruiting area before someone buys them out from under us. This was a stepping stone job back then, it still is. Money isn't the answer here, it never was.

Tennessee proved the McDonald's bag doesn't work. Has anybody tried the Burger King bag? Wendy's? What fast food chain does Alabama use?
 
U need a guy who will take advantage of the best recruiting backyard in the country
U basically just a need an elite talent evaluator like jimmy or butch Bc even if u don’t get the five stars all the time there are more than enough hidden gems to have an elite roster
We have way too many misses on the trail and way too often we take the wrong hidden gem

Yea king is more on the level of Boyd
He plays a lot like a shorter Boyd too

You answered your own question.

All we heard about was, "scholarship limits, parody," but all that accomplished is what you're seeing with Alabama. All those resources are being spent, and then some, on infrastructure only a handful of colleges can even contemplate affording.

Serious question bc you say you’ve been in those rooms with the cash cows who make the decisions. What’s the issue with the school? Is it lack of money, incompetence by those people, or both? You say write a check, but if that check won’t make a difference, why do it?

I remember when people said it didn’t necessarily “matter who the head coach was”. Looks like we just had a run of 4 great hires in Schellenberger, Johnson, Erickson and Davis. We followed that with Coker (say what you want but won a title and is probably the best of the crap sandwich) Shannon, Golden, Richt and now Diaz.
