How are they going to keep this monster off the field?

What about dj johnson. Dude is 6'5 240 and has track speed. Those 2 dudes are going to be a problem over the next 3 years.

He's 6'5 250 now and has 11.00 speed in the 100M at that size.... FREAK athleticism

Agree with Lu. Garvin will play and I think he'll play at a level close to Joe Jackson last year.

He doesn't have quite as much horsepower as JJ but he has plenty, and he's quicker laterally. He's also has natural strength and power in his hands.

Lu I for one would love to see our media stop......again STOP....proclaiming kids top 15 etc pick. I miss the days we had kids come back to win something for Miami before departing for the NFL. 1st round pick? Ok not complaining....

Tangent over

It's absurd how night and day the DE and DT recruiting are at this point. DJ and Garvin have 100 guys in front of them and may have to see the field.
Joe's not a hard projection as a likely early entrant. He was a star Frosh year. He's a prototype. He'll be 21 years old this season. If he remains healthy and just naturally progresses, hard not to see him leaving early as a R1 DE.

DEs with Jackson's skill set are also chosen toward the top half. Derek Barnett was chosen #14 overall in the 2017 NFL draft and I project Joe Jackson to be a better prospect after next season. Of course, it depends on who comes out and certain circumstances. Just providing reference.
No doubt.

To your point however I believe Vilma critqued Garvins game after NSD and the very first thing he talked about was his first two steps coupled with the absurd length/wingspan he has.

His speed off the edge is wild....

If DJ and Garvin play this year one would think every DE were bringing in this year redshirts although cant kids play 4 to 6 games? That may be a rule implementation going forward.

Unless they change the rule redshirts for teams that continually finish in the top10 recruiting are pretty much limited to cases regarding injury. Alabama has the most loaded roster imaginable and they only have 2 DL on their roster that have redshirted. You don't continually attract top talent by shelving them. They earn a chance to play or they eventually get processed.

I think Jackson has the potential to be a top 5 pick. POTENTIAL is the key word. He's really, ******* good. Who knows. Anything can happen.

As season approaches, exhorbirance of players and team surfaces. Garvin is lucanes choice as next great de. It doesn't matter that he is not played 1 down of college football. He has been annointed. Unfortunately for every freshman that looked like the real deal and would go on to greatness, there have been many more that have been busts. Nice to have positive opinions but too early to crown him as the next great de.

This is a message board. Projecting players is one of the primary things done by fans of teams. No one is "crowning" him as anything. Perhaps attack the actual substantive portions of the OP and the specific comments made of him. I even wrote he may get minimal snaps. I have no idea because I'm not making those decisions.

Not sure if you're new or an older poster with a new name, but I don't get this excited about too many players.

LOL imagine them putting Thomas, Joe Jackson, Harris, DJ or Garvin on the field on passing downs?

There's little reason for Norton and McIntosh being on the field on 3rd and long.

2007 Giants won the super bowl because their staff used Strahan, Umenyiora, Tuck, Kiwanuka to get after Tom Brady.

We have a million DEs...use them

They called it the NASCAR package

Funny story, when he was still at Oxbridge I bumped into him and who I assume was his father while shopping at Publix. He had on an Oxbridge football shirt, and remember thinking to my self this kids frame is unreal, I wonder what kind of offers he has. A year later he was a Cane commit lol. Can't wait to see him ball out for us.

Jon Garvin actually played at a really high level this spring so i don't see what's the problem tbh

To answer the OP question, I don't believe they will keep him off the field. He will see minimal snaps most games, obviously not accounting for injuries. If he is the type of athlete that you guys say he is, no reason to. play your best players. DE is stacked right now and it should be. Lets hope these boys stay healthy and dominate games like they are capable of.

We're going to have 20 defensive lineman on the field at the same time, and not redshirting anyone.

Red Shirt this young man and let him develop we plenty of talent ahead of him.

For that matter there are quite a few kids in the 2017 class I would like to see take a redshirt year, to develop long term quality depth.

Go Canes

Disagree. This isn't 1983 anymore. Kids want to play. Play them as freshman and get 3 years out of them. If Garvin is that good, he's leaving after his RS So season anyway. Unless there is an injury or they are a legit project (Hillery?), play your best guys

Yep. The only kids who should redshirt anymore are those whose just can't help you any. Their game is too raw or their frame just isn't ready for college. The rest should play because they are gone after three years anyway, whether you redshirt them or not.

whatever, what the **** else we gonna do? You disagree say why, otherwise let the dudes who know football and can break down film help the rest of us out. I live in South Carolina now and this message board is as close as I can get to the program as I'll get until the season starts and I can start getting to some games.

3rd and long draw play. Leave at least 1 DT in there. JMO

We have 3 very good linebackers to read any kind of draw play.
