Herbstreit doesnt think NFL or College will be played this year.....

Americans are impatient and have ever shorter attention spans. If this drags on for that long, there will be pressure for some degree of normalcy. Even if huge gatherings are too dangerous, people will still want the games to watch at home. Ratings would be huge and empty stadiums wouldn't matter. But no SEC attendance smack? Duke with the same home field advantage as Ohio State and Clemson? What a weird season it would be.
I agree though everyone would be watching.. highest ratings ever for all the sports.

This virus won’t be under control until we actually have testing widely available throughout the country not just for people with symptoms, but also to identify asymptotic people who can also transmit the virus. The lack of testing has created this absolute chaos and helped to destroy the economy. Between the deaths and economic destruction, there will never be a sufficient apology or explanation for how the S Koreans were running 20,000 tests per day a month age, and yesterday the entire State of Georgia had 5500 tests!

all that absolute incompetence aside, life will have to resume at some point, including sports. Athletes will be tested before practices and games, and if they test negative they will be allowed to play. I Don;t think you’ll have fans in seats in 2020 in any sport because WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TESTS to make it safe to stand 6 inches from a stranger.

similarly, most of us won’t ride in planes, stay at hotels, visit casinos, attend concerts, and many won’t dine in at restaurants until who know who has the virus and who does not.
this is a 12-24 months process. Let’s hope it’s 12 months.

This makes no ******* sense to me. We knew this **** was coming and we didn't ramp up testing and ventilators in January. Our government let us down big time. They knew this was coming.

South Korea has a population of 51 million

Georgia 10 million

Do you want to do the math there?

Hypothetically, if the NFL went ahead and cancelled the season now but still had the 2020 draft, if I were the Dolphins I'd ignore quarterback this year and stock up on everything else. Then use the 2021 draft to go after Lawrence or Fields.

dolphins are gonna win above 8 games this year brah.

If the season is called, the NCAA will make that decision sometime in late July, or early August at the latest. That time frame is only four months away. How many of you honestly think we will be done with this thing in four months?

Where is he getting his information to make such a statement? What gives him the credibility to say this? If businesses and schools reopen (which they will) we will have football. LETS GO CANES!

Because there’s a pandemic that has the entire country on lockdown. It’s been on the news.

even if the season were cancelled over this flu and complete overreaction, players would get a red shirt year, so yes King will suit up, unless we hide in our houses forever.

We won’t be doing this social distancing crap in August. Everyone will be outside and doing their regular business

I really do hope you are right, but it did take Spanish influenza, the last big global pandemic to hit the U.S., around 6-12 months to work its way around most of the country. There's no herd immunity in the population to COVID-19, so I don't see how this is going away in the next few months. I think all this social distancing and shutting down the economy will slow the spread, but it won't eradicate it entirely. It's still going to pop up, spread around unpredictably, and cause problems for a while to come. And remember, we're talking about college athletics here. The NCAA and university presidents are going to be very reluctant to risk exposing people to a killer virus just to make sure football games are played.

I agree but that doesn't mean football will be full steam ahead. What happens when Trevor Lawrence or Tom Brady have the virus and have to quarantine for 2 weeks? It's a logistical nightmare.

Football was put under siege over dubious research that correlated head trauma with health complications years/decades later. It forced rule changes at all levels of the game. Are we supposed to believe that the NFL and NCAA are gonna bury their heads in the sand and carry on like it's business as usual if the virus spreads throughout the league? No "social distancing crap" means most people get infected unless there's sufficient testing and trace/quarantine measures. Either way football gets screwed.

The NCAA is considering a shortened season with some minor rule changes: mandatory spread offenses, players must wear gloves and masks, no tackling, blocking or touching, no huddles, sideline social distancing, and no more than 10 players in the locker room at a time.
