Butch Davis record as head coach in college is 63-43

Al Folden? 55-56

One of those two was the architect of the greatest CFB team of all time and directly responsible for our last national championship. But yeah, we should want Folden as head corch.

Bu-bu-but Butch Davis had a losing record in the NFL. Oh yeah? So did Nick Saban.

Stunning that a coach as accomplished as Butch Davis would still be available and unemployed. Not the NFL or college football. Not a D coordinator or DL gig. Just unbelievable.

He's still getting paid from both ESPN and UNC as long as he doesn't coach. He has said that the only job he wants is............................................................[]_[]

Davis: “I Certainly Would Be Interested” in Miami Job
December 22, 2014

Former Miami Hurricanes coach Butch Davis joined the Joe Rose Show Monday morning to discuss a variety of topics including his feature role in ESPN’s The U Part 2, Canes football in its current state, and whether he longs to return to the program he once helped rebuild into a national power.

Butch expressed his desire to coach again if “the right opportunity” comes along. When asked about whether the recent academic scandal at North Carolina could halt any potential interest in him, the former Tar Heels coach (2007-2010) declared that after “eight separate independent internal and external investigations” his name has been cleared.

“I think this thing has been investigated maybe more than the assassination of President Kennedy,” he said. “… Through all eight of these investigations, they’ve never drawn any association. I’ve never been named in any of these and then the NCAA — I received a letter from them stating that I was completely exonerated from any of the stuff.”

Davis talked of immense regret over leaving Miami to coach the Cleveland Browns back in 2001. Over 13 years later, is the position of head football coach at the University of Miami still considered a top-notch job?

“I don’t think there’s any question that it’s a top-notch job,” Davis said. “You can’t have that in your backyard of the number of athletes and players and the history and the tradition. Honestly, there’s 95 percent of the teams in the country that would kill to be able to sit in a home visit and say I represent a school that’s a private institution, that’s got a great academic reputation, and has won five national championships in the last two or three decades.

“If it ever came open and people thought that I’d be the right choice, I certainly would be interested because we’ve always loved South Florida. I still live there.”

Meanwhile, Davis expressed sympathy and hope for Al Golden. Like Al, Butch understands what it’s like to battle through the cloud of looming NCAA sanctions.

“I think that Al Golden has gone through some tough times — it’s not easy. I sympathize with him from the standpoint of the Nevin Shapiro situation and all that hanging over your head. Certainly it hasn’t been easy for Al and his coaching staff, and hopefully now that it’s all over with they’ll be able to get it all turned around.”

1. He wants back at Miami
2. Until rather recently (last year iirc) he was still getting paid by NoCarolina
3. Combine his UNC $$$ with his Espn $$$ and I'm sure that makes for a pretty decent salary while waiting for Folden to **** the bed, again.

It's not "either, or" ... It's "both"!

Golden sucks ... Is in over his head ... And we're stuck with him for, at least, another year.

Butch was awesome ... Built the greatest college team of all time, after a slow start ... Left us for the Browns ... Now wishes he had stayed at UM as much as we wish he would have stayed ... Missed his window to be a college football coaching legend ... And he ain't coming back to UM as HC.

Coaches want and need to coach, after bein **** canned. Two years or more out of the game uttering coach speak into a camera and your toast, forgotten, often not likely to coach again. If Butch had an offer, he'd be on a sideline. He hasn't sniffed an offer. About in demand as bagman John Blake.

You got any proof to that. Other than the fact that Butch has actually said the exact opposite?

If you know anything about Butch, he's never been shy linking himself to jobs. Not a sniff since **** canned at UNC. His meltdown in Cleveland precludes him ever being considered for NFL head job. Never mentioned with any college openings last two offseasons. Academic situation and John Blake fiasco at UNC makes him virtually unhireable for college job.

U folden lovers are so full of ****. I know from someone who does not lie that a UM law grad(attorney for his company) spoke to him in Bonita Springs and he said he's had plenty of offers but the only job he wants is the U. The man wants redemption. He knows the dynasty he left behind and wants his last shot.

Lots of inaccuracies in that article and Dorsett, while fast, isn't the fastest Cane ever no matter what dumbass Swasey hand timed him at.

Where's your proof? The man has said, point blank, he's had offers. Are you calling him a liar?

I don't believe that the author of that article has the slightest idea of what the BOT thinks, how it operates and reaches decisions, what role it has in the decision making process, or what considerations it feels are important.

I don't think the buy out was a major factor in the decision to retain coach Golden.

I don't think it is automatic that coach Golden will be fired if he fails to win the division.

I just don't understand the venomous hatred towards Butch. If you hate him then you must also hate the body of his work. Record number of first round draft picks, 2001 national championship, greatest team ever, etc.

I say that anyone who hates on Butch can not be a Cane fan.

Butch Davis record as head coach 87 wins 78 losses. No National Championships,no playoffs in the NFL,no super bowls and head coach of one of the biggest cheating classroom scandals in college history. Figures a loser like you would want this bum. He is in his 60's,his coaching career is over.

You are the very definition of a **** stain! That is all. Carry on!

Yeah, I know someone who is super honest who last year cleaned Butch's pool in Tampa. And he said Butch realizes he may never get another head coaching offer - and knows his only hope is reconnecting to Miami - though understands even if Golden eventually is fired he needs to overcome old, damaged good label.

Completely agree. We should've won 3 straight titles all thanks to Butch but he sucks right?

I'm one of the few guys that doesn't hate Swasey. However, I agree that Dorsett is nowhere close to the fastest Cane ever. Maybe top 5-6.

Believe what you want, troll but if Butch comes back he will build a dynasty that will make Saban look like Charlie Weiss.
