We only got a few big program football contracts.
Its like politics... gotta work your way up and blow the right people to get a shot.
There are very few in the business that didn't get there that way and actually got there for acumen.
I will add: I worked for a consultant that acted as a search firm for around 2 years specializing in college coaching hires. We only got a few big program football contracts. Mostly lower tier non-rev sports, position coaches and coordinator jobs, and lots of D2 and D3 stuff. There are some clueless ADs out there.
There was a P5 AD that we assisted (biggest client we secured) and they went against our 3 suggestions and wasted $150k on their contract. They've fired 2 coaches since then and 2 of the 3 suggestions have already moved along to bigger jobs and done well. Number 1 on this list was Cignetti, 2 was Deboer, and 3 was Rolovich - which is hard to grade but I'm certain it would have went better than where they're at now.
Gotta say, I doubt any firm has ever put up a better list of small school candidates for them on a budget than our team did for them with the budget and resources presented. Cig was at JMU, Deboer was at Fresno St, and Rolovich at Wazzu.
What is truly amazing is this....
Stricklin REJECTED having Lane Train bring his own GM, a guy who has experienced success in his job...
And instead hired a guy who continually FAILED with the Jaguars.
Brilliant.

Cal is in interesting position cause just promoting Rolovich makes so much sense… but seem the tea leaves are all Tosh getting that role… Rolovich the far safer choice. But do they even want a guy with his politics to be leading the program? Doubt. But he should have a HC job somewhere… but no jobs open…Its like politics... gotta work your way up and blow the right people to get a shot.

Briefly:Would love to get your takes on the various coaching hires
Guy is almost just as weird as Billy, just a longer fade and days “right” slightly less.Just keep making that wound deeper pause, **** I dont think we can survive here anymore. We will al drown in this thread
seems like he's already better in the media but thats not hard to do when you had Billy thereGuy is almost just as weird as Billy, just a longer fade and days “right” slightly less.
I swear Napier has worn that ****![]()
I think Silverfield hire is bad. Morris hire is good Im just surprised he didn't take a better job especially when he's likely taking mestemaker with him. If I'm Mestemaker I wouldn't really want to go there tbh. I mean maybe if OKSt made promises, but like idk.Briefly:
Kiffin - perfect fit for LSU. As good as they could have done. Not saying he wins a championship but they’ll be good
Golesh - weird fit. Not a fan. He may have struck gold with Deuce at QB and the fit in that offense, though.
Silverfield - another OL background HC with mediocre connections and pull. No idea how he competes in the SEC. He was on the hot seat at Memphis at one point. Also, all Memphis coaches keep failing at better jobs that have done better there than Silverfield
Sumrall - 3rd best hire of the cycle so far behind Lane and Morris. But he’s not competing with Kirby, Kiffin, Deboer, Sark, etc. on the trail or on the field. Money talks but mediocre Rolodex for a staff.
Morris - best fit of any in the cycle so far. I hope they give him money to build a roster. He’ll be in the Big 12 title game by 2027
Franklin - VT couldn’t have done better for themselves. But what is his ceiling? Can VT even compete in NIL era
Pritchard - Stanford is a weird job like BYU or something. I know nothing about him.
Chesney - weird fit for UCLA but intriguing. They’ll improve drastically
