FSU looking at Willie Taggart to replace Jimbo

It has nothing to do with a high profile Nike school taking a coach from Oregon b/c knight went there. Stop.

Disagree because Meyer & Saban fell short but some don't hold that against em' when they took better jobs.

Meyer left and went 12-0 at his next stop.

Saban was at the 5th or 6th best program (at best) in the Big Ten. He left and won a national championship at this next stop.

Taggart was competing with Navy, Tulsa, Temple, etc. and didn't win a conference title (or even play for one).

Neither did Holtz or Leavitt.

Taggarts last year was the first & only time USF has ever won 10 games, and the only time they either tied for or won the AAC East.

And again, He took over 2 doormats and made em' winners.

didnt leavit have usf as #2 in the nation at one point?

why do fans and ADs kepp overvaluing mediocre turnarounds in awful conferences.

just to be clear, no miami coach would leave willingly to a middle tier SEC program

F FSU and that sorry a** program

Miami Head Coaches only go to NFL as HCs or get fired. The don’t take demotions to those other schools.

And again, He took over 2 doormats and made em' winners.

He had losing records at both schools.

Again, find me a great coach that had a losing record at a school. Let alone two.

Jimmy Johnson was barely over .500 before getting the Miami job at Ok St. Howard Schnellenberger had a losing record at Louisville and a losing record at FAU.

Saban's win percentage .532 in 4 seasons before getting his 9 wins in year 5. If Taggart stayed for his 5th year at USF, he is over .500.

-Multiple sources within Florida State University have told Tomahawk Nation that they do not expect Jimbo Fisher to return, but rather to take the Texas A&M job. An announcement could come Thursday.

-Things are progressing at such a rate that sources are now expressing doubt about Fisher coaching the season finale against Louisiana Monroe.

-If Fisher does not coach the season finale, sources believe Odell Haggins, the associate head coach/defensive tackles coach, would serve as the interim.

-As we’ve been reporting, Florida State has been doing little to no recruiting for close to a month, and the fruit rotting on the vine finally fell Wednesday night, as three top players pulled their commitments. At the time it was tough to tell whether Florida State was doing this because it didn’t want lame duck assistants to be recruiting for it, as coaching changes were expected, or if the head man was leaving. It now seems clear it was the latter. The recruiting class is falling apart.

-FSU is being proactive with a search committee and firm. It speaks volumes that FSU is not waiting on an official word from Fisher. As discussed below, Oregon’s Willie Taggart and Virginia Tech’s Justin Fuente are top options, per sources close to the search. A background check was done on Taggart Wednesday. Oregon has offered Taggart an extension, and the fact that it is public seems to be an attempt by the Ducks to show that they are serious about attempting to keep the Florida native.

-The Call-in show was a serious blunder, with a fan being pushed and escorted out for asking Jimbo Fisher about loyalty to the program in a calm, and respectful manner. You can bet Florida State will be pressured to issue an apology for an employee roughing up a booster who did nothing to deserve it. I interviewed the booster who was ejected.

Leavitt got them to #2 during the 2007 season. Maybe Taggart did as too but don't remember that

If you're FSU you basically have to tell Jimbo to gtfo now. Just getting worse and worse dragging this out. Feel like I should be eating some of McDonald's garbage food because I'm Lovin It right now

Y’all blinded if you don’t respect Taggart as a coach. Would be a great hire for FSU considering who else is out there if Jimbo leaves.

Yes! "Considering who else is out there" is the entire point!! Chip Kelly is off the market! After that there is a huge drop off and programs like UF and Tenn are scraping the bottom of the barrel!

Taggart is overated as ****. Dude was getting close to being fired at usf until winky saved his ***.

Are you CRAZY he rebuilt the mess that Skip Holts left. You sure don’t know much about football

I really find it hard to be impressed with winning at schools like USF or UCF. Terrible conferences, rarely play good OOC games, and they have Florida talent. Charlie Strong looks good right now too.

Fisher is banking on that ( literally) .if they can him they owe him 22 million. If HE leaves he owes FSU money for any assts. that aren’t retained by him or the university.

So "being barely above .500" is indeed a winning record. He also did it at Oklahoma State in a major conference going up against Nebraska and Oklahoma powerhouses.

Taggart was in mid-major conferences and didn't have a winning record.

Saban's win percentage .532 in 4 seasons before getting his 9 wins in year 5. If Taggart stayed for his 5th year at USF, he is over .500.

Again, why are you giving me over .500 records when my comment was about having losing records?

You're making my point for me.

Great coaches or potentially great ones have winning records even when they take terrible jobs. They make a difference right away.
