If Miami is serious about having a competitive football program there are only 4 choices they should be considering:

Proven guys:

1. Jim Tressel = guy is a winner. Find me another coach that is available with a better resume than this guy.

2. Butch Davis = responsible for assembling the greatest college team ever.


Up and comers:

1. Tom Herman = his offenses consistently have put up 40 PPG and 450 YPG. Imagine him selling his offense to all the playmakers in S FL. Developed Braxton Miller, JT Barrett.

2. Justin Fuente = like Herman, his offenses put up 40 PPG and 450 YPG. Developed Andy Dalton.


Terrible hires: Greg Schiano, Mike Leach, Mario Cristobal, Rob Chudzinski, Marc Trestman, Josh McDaniels, Hue Jackson, Matt Patricia, Jedd Fisch, James Franklin, Lane Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, and anyone currently on staff at Miami.

Why would strong even be an option? I think he would kill it here but he is under contract and there's no way um would pay his buyout.
 
One thing about Butch....Miami might have the best recruiting class in history if he gets the job. I bet they'd have to turn away bucketloads of kids wanting to play for him. Maybe he would be the best option in the short-term, but I don't know if he's the long-term answer. The guy was never a good gameday coach, but the program needs a spark right now. There's no doubt that he'd provide that spark.

I can't leave out Butch and Herman though. Butch for obvious reasons but I think Herman would be an absolute home run hire and would kill it. I'm also impressed by Fuente but to a much lesser extent then Herman.
 
A LOT YOU GUYS COMPLETELY KILLED Dmoneys thread. No Butch, No Fuente, No Herman. I would definitely call coaches in the P5 conference who has been successful at their programs. In no particular order after Gary Patterson, we should be able to get one to bite.

Bring Mario as an Assistant. Guy isn't ready for this head coach gig. I can't have someone that has lost like he has (granted it was FIU).

After the last 10 years I'd rather have an X and O guy who can take a hand full of 4 stars and three stars from south Florida, develop them and put them in a position to win on Saturday.

That didn't exactly work out well with Dennis Erickson or Coker.
