This is based on no info, just curious. Assume Fuente and Herman don't want the job and Butch is out. Who is on your list?

Start with Pagano and Chud. Add in Harsin from Boise and Charlie Strong at Texas.

If it gets really bad, look deeper. Can always retain Larry Scott if he does a good job.

It's all a crapshoot. Just different degrees of risk and uncertainty.
Hue Jackson I guess would be next.

He inquired about the job last year. Has a ton of experience. He's considered an elite X's & O's guy. Very energetic. Players seem to love him.
 
Idk why such the love with Herman by everyone? I understand Fuente, but Herman is a first year HC who hasn’t beaten anyone respectable

no Idea for a list, but I can tell you who’s NOT on my list

Please god don’t hire Cristobal (27-47 FIU record I shouldn’t have to explain),
Fedora(heard his name a few times, not a fan at all),
Chud(His name comes up a lot, 1 year HC experience and was 4-12 with the browns, they only gave him a year because there was no upside)
Schiano (never understood the hype, had a few decent years at rutgers and people made him out to be the best thing ever)

Oh and one more thing. If Mario Cristobal is hired I am done with this program.

First thing I do is throw money at big-time coaches at big-time programs. Call Saban, call Meyer, call Patterson, call Dantonio. They'll say no, but show everyone involved you're serious about this hire. Next step IMO is the NFL - guys like Hue Jackson, Pagano, Chud. Even if there isn't mutual interest, maintain those ties and contacts in the League. Then you look at guys like Stoops at Kentucky - i.e. good coaches in dead-end jobs. After that, you dig deep and look for guys like Fuente who may not have the hype but are cut from the same cloth - Matt Campbell, Matt Wells, Chad Morris, et al.

I will also say whoever we go after needs to have 1) a definable system/identity and 2) financial support to hire a great staff.
 
I appreciate the discussion spark but in all fairness if Butch is out it's either because he's dead or the BoT fvcked up big time.
