I didn't look at all the other pages sorry if already mentioned

Please let me know why Stoops is an attractive candidate for Miami.
This. He's done nothing of note at Kentucky. Win a big game, win your conference. Don't care if he's in the SEC, it's his third year and I see nothing notable. I was high on him early in the year expecting to see big results but it never happened

I'll answer. I'm not a HUGE Stoops guy but he intrigues me. Kentucky is arguably the worst power 5 football team in the country. His first season was bad but has markedly improved that team to 6-7 wins in the first 3 years. His recruiting classes at UK have also been the best ever at Kentucky and have averaged in the top 30 the past couple seasons.

Not sure how much too expect at Kentucky. What intrigues me is who he's surrounded himself with at UK - he has a Hologran/Mumme disciple as OC and he has an FSU guy as DC.

Kansas is much worse, not the point.

Here is an older post I had on him...

First, he hasn't had a winning season yet. So we're getting a little ahead of ourselves. He lost 6 in a row last year. I expect him to lose a bunch this year. We understand it is Kentucky but how about improvement. Why hire a guy who hasn't done enough today?

Second, what are we supposed to judge him on if we have to discount conference play? Seriously. So we look at his wins (11) total. 7 of them are against: ULL, EKU, ULM, Tenn-Martin, Ohio, Miami (OH) and Alabama State.

The other 4 wins were against:

2014 Vandy 3-9 (0-8)
2014 South Carolina 7-6 (3-5)
2015 South Carolina 2-4 (0-4)
2015 Missouri 4-2 (1-2) By far the most impressive win

I am not impressed TODAY. Maybe in 2 years, he might have something much better.

Third, somehow and someway Rich Brooks was able to lead Kentucky to 4 straight bowls games in the conference. He even won 8 games twice. If he gets to 3-4 Conference wins this season and keeps improving, he deserves some serious talk. At this point NO thanks.

Hue Jackson. Period.

Of all the names that have been tossed around he best fits what we need...and I think he could do it pretty quickly.

Forget about qualifications, some coaches may have ZERO interest in returning to college.

Pagano, who would be great, may not want to deal with recruiting. Also, if he is let go he will get and deserves another HC gig.

Chud, who all indications hated recruiting, may be unwilling to return as well.

He was a great recruiter and few people here understand how well he would be received in South Florida. I know it has been 15 years, but there are still a lot of the same guys involved and they would love a Pagano hire. Of all the candidates he is the one who would do best recruiting South Florida IMO. I'd love to hear what some of the posters who are involved with that scene would say about that.

I believe Chud hated recruiting so I am not sure what you're referring too. Who ever said he was a great recruiter?

It's great Golden got fired - but now comes the scary part. Whittling down all these candidates into "realistic" candidates.

Chud would be my first choice, but Chud, Jackson & Pagano all seem like NFL guys to me. I've heard VT is gonna go hard after Chad Morris. I've always considered Butch a great recruiter but not a great coach, which is how I view Mario, so I don't get why the anti-Mario sentiment is so strong. Malzahn was my choice last time, and he didn't even get a look.

I feel like the coaches that are going to have realistic interest in this job is a lot smaller than people are thinking it is right now.

This guy was a option last time

Correct. Chud was not a great recruiter and was not shy to admit he did not like recruiting.

Talking about Pagano not Chud. Pagano was the lead recruiter on a lot of our players from that era.

If you write a big enough check, Fuente, Herman or Butch will be available. The only one limiting the breadth of our search will be the people spending the money.

I am not against Pagano. My point was whether he wanted to come back to college. Cancer changes things for people.

This is based on no info, just curious. Assume Fuente and Herman don't want the job and Butch is out. Who is on your list?

Man, I have no clue. I guess I'm gun shy on a lot of these guys being discussed. One thing I hope they don't do is go after some retread (Butch, Wannstache, Schiano). I guess I'd rather take chances on an up and comer, but that's what we thought we had with Golden. A guy Like Bud Foster running an aggressive defense would be intriguing, but I don't know that he wants to be a CEO, would be a good CEO, or would even leave VT. I like some things about Fitzgerald at Northwestern, but I doubt he'd leave, and his record isn't that great in a pretty crappy conference. Are guys like Whittingham and Patterson even options? I don't know, but I guess those would be top-tier hires. Whittingham is making almost $3M/yr. Fuente and Herman seem like unproven commodities to me...high risk, high potential reward. I don't hate the idea of Cristobal, but I don't love it either.

One name that doesn't seem to get mentioned much is Winston Moss. No HC experience is the obvious drawback, but he's been an assistant HC with McCarthy for the Packers for quite a while. I think I'd much rather him than Cristobal.

Then I'd take a look at Mark Stoops

Dj Durkin I think would be really good. He was at FL as DC so he knows how to deal with FL kids. His defense are nasty. Not sure of his HC ability but if everyone else isn't available he might be a good one.

Mark Stoops- supposedly contacted the U about the job or his agent or something, or we reached out to him. Does a lot with a bball school football team.

Scott Frost- Might come cheap since Oregon is down, but his offense would kill at Miami. Not sure he could deal with Miami kids though.

Why would Hue Jackson leave the NFL for college when he is on the verge of getting another opportunity as an NFL CEO?

Also, lmao at Josh McDaniels.
