Follow-up to a story I mentioned in my long post

Exactly. It’s all just filling in the details between the lines. Blake is a ******* ****** and you knew it the first time you shook his dead fish hand. Now we know some more of who and why put him in charge and wanted to keep him there.

its time for a purge so this **** can’t EVER happen again.

This cannot be ignored. Fraternity 101.

Amazing. I knew Blake was awful but I didn’t realize the depth of incompetence to give Dan Lambert the answer he gave him. And that’s after a decade of experience more or less on the job. My God!

Yes sir. Been trying to hint about these things, since some people (understandably) don't always appreciate when I blow things up with C-4.

I've been hearing stories from "big people" (boosters/donors) and "little people" (UM employees unfortunate enough to try to have an interaction with Beta Blake) long enough that I'm surprised my head hasn't exploded earlier.

On-brand for you.

Jankovich had a list of HC names in his back pocket.

Any AD who claims to be a good fund-raiser should already have a list of Top 10 Building/Improvement Priorities in his back pocket. Why is Blake raising money if he didn't know how he was going to spend it?

This wasn't a take-home exam. This was Final Jeopardy. Lambert needed an answer immediately, not some "consulting-firm-let-us-research-it-and-prepare-a-worthless-PowerPoint-deck" answer.
This is totally different than naming a new head coach. In either case, we can all agree Blake’s answer was about the worst response possible short of nothing.

Blake had no clue. And it doesnt even surprise me one bit.

All this knucklehead did was raise funds and sell tickets. Thats it. Doing part of the actual athletic work, like evaluating performance, never was his strength because he had no clue how to do it. He was never in that department and also never at a school that prioritized it (Yes, Miami from 2004 till now included).

Blake James hates confrontation. Thats why people, who confront him, hate him. They scream stuff into one ear and it never reaches his brain, it just goes out the other ear. You cant talk to him. And you cant go far in any business with people who cant be confronted in any way, shape or form.

The funniest **** in his resume are two things: Mentioning how impeccable student athletes graduated and the opening of the CAROL SOFFER IPF. Regarding the first: Students and in some cases professors decide how well you graduate. But the AD has 0 influence on that. None. Especially considering the fact that student athletes are not regular students and that the grind of getting a degree is far less hard for them. I could even argue the ones who cant even get that done are ******* morons.

Regarding the second: Its in the name. It literally is in the ******* name.

I am ******* glad that this **** is out. Allows everyone to know about it, point towards the old bags from the BOT and it can only go up from now on. Lambert is paying the biggest NIL deal here and he wants to win. I am not even slightly surprised he comes out and says that. Its all about fan support now and Frenk, thankfully, is on the right side here.

In fairness, the Academic Support Department within Athletics can have a big impact. I know I'm biased, having worked there as a UM student, but we should NEVER forget the amazing work that JJ and Dr. Anna Price did to ORIGINALLY build the Academic Support Department.

First, JJ recognized the one thing that Schnellenberger had let slide, and he took action. Second, Dr. Price was one of the all-time greats at UM, she never gets enough credit. If I could describe the LOVE that the student-athletes had for her, and how the walls of her office were covered with pictures of student-athletes GRADUATING, you could begin to understand how the culture was transformed over about a 10 year period.

All Beta Blake had to do was to MAINTAIN something that was already built. But I would be willing to bet that if someone tried to talk to anyone in Academic Support that Blake hired, that person would probably try to tell you that Blake did it all, just like when the Ticket Manager tried to tell me that Blake was responsible for creating the Green Lot.

Right. He is an eXeCUtiVe! No way he is more qualified than Jurich. If he were he'd have a better job right now.
No coach would accept someone appointed over him telling him who to recruit. No Athletic director would do it either. If the Coach isnt recruiting well then replace him with someone who can. If the AD is bad at hiring coaches replace him first with someone who isnt. I felt the whole Alonzo business was more a wish than a reality. If you want an AD to resurrect the football team then hire Alonzo. But I dont think he wants to be an AD and worry about title 9 and being politically correct. He is a football guy through and through. So if he isnt a coach or an AD he is essentially nowhere. NO AD is going to come in yielding the biggest sport to someone else.
I would not have been a good look to fire Manny after one season. Manny was a young first time coach that needed some help, so they offered help trying to make the best of the situation.

I once ran across a proposal that Schelly was pushing that showed a picture where a 40k stadium would go in a 1981 UM yearbook. If I am not mistaken, it was roughly where the intramural fields were next to the Hecht/Stanford cafeteria.

Can you imagine the outage of Lake Osceola was filled? Where would all of the barracudas, alligators, crocodiles, manatees, and diaheritic ducks go?

Yes! I enrolled at UM in 1986, the Ibis Yearbook offices had a couple of decades worth of old yearbooks on the shelves.

Not many people know this, but the dirt from "Lake" Osceola was sold to build (I believe) the original version of the Rickenbacker Causeway. Then we spent the money on finishing the Merrick Building.

But, yeah, the stadium was originally supposed to be in the dead center of the campus, and then was going to be along the perimeter of the campus. Either option works for me, but I think the Granada/Ponce corner (assuming Mahoney-Pearson is imploded) is the only thing that might work now.

I'm good with going off campus though. Something along NW 7th Street sounds so...familiar...

I respectfully disagree, though I do acknowledge that "list of names" and "list of projects" is a bit different (and "list of projects" is probably too bulky to fit in your back pocket)...

Tad Foote always had his 10-year master plans. He and Bosie knew what they wanted to do on campus.

Lambert needed a real answer, not a "7 day, 500 man hour, massive PowerPoint deck" answer, which I believe that Lambert would have deemed just as ***** (to quote the Herald's language) as the "locker room and a couple of analysts" response.

Why not?

You just have to look at how all of the sports teams are performing to understand he didn't know what he was doing.
No, that just showed he was really bad at his job. I couldn’t fathom a guy with many years experience on the job giving that hollow answer.

That lake feeds from tributaries. God knows a bull shark will show up in there and take care of the diarrhetic duck problem.

Doesn't Hard Rock have some underground parking now?

Epstein is gonna need a Secret Service Detail to get to his luxury suite next year...
Not sure but it's soon to have a Formula 1 track by the time next season starts so maybe they can whisk his *** in and out quickly from the stadium.

No....just stop.....the right AD would have NEVER hired Manny
Who was the AD that hired Randy Shannon? Pretty sure it was Paul Dee right? You could argue that the precedence in hiring two coaches in waiting in your own ranks led to this.

All I’m trying to say is someone who was thought to be a competent AD like Paul Dee did the same thing, hired clappy and slappy.

Your argument holds no water, but like I said, he’s gone so, whatever.
