Official Fall PractiSe #12: Thursday August 18

Before anyone asks TS isn’t moving to star but he’ll get reps there during the season , likely being dictated by situation / down and distance. I imagine that’s why Davis is getting reps at practice with the pass rushers. He’s a Lb but could be used off the edge to rush the passer situationally. You’ll see things you haven’t seen in recent years to get the best players on the field especially on money downs. JW is another one who’ll be used in different facets. And yes he’s still a SAFETY!
ultimately this is where UGA wanted Tyrique to play and based on what Ariz said on a recent podcast it's where the NFL sees him playing too. great for us that he can be a good corner in college but there's no harm in nudging him toward his most natural position if we can hold up on the outside otherwise.

Not making any excuse for these boys dropping ball, but **** does Van Dyke ball come out like a laser. ****! Lol. Not many receivers in college football can say they practice with a real life NFL type QB every single day. On better note: If they can consistently catch a Van Dyke ball, they can probably play in the NFL.

Cb is where he’ll be , he’s our best cover guy. He’s just being used in multiple facets on certain downs and distances. Same with some other guys.

watching the I AM ATHLETE with Antrel Rolle, I could see Tyrique's career playing out similarly to Rolle...both are 6'ish 205lbs ish... bigger size, physical CBs that prefer jamming at the line, that could fill in at safety.. lots of versatility... antrel Rolle even said in the video that he knew he was more likely to end up at safety but was already a few years in at CB in college so he just focused on that to get drafted and then helped out wherever was needed when he got to the league...
Tyrique is probably bout 215

I'm generally excited about the defense overall. I'm really curious how they're going to handle all the moving pieces. Guys playing multiple positions on the line, corners playing star, safeties playing linebacker. If nothing else, they're going to be versatile. There's not going to be a set 11 man starting lineup that get most of the snaps. They'll be able to adjust on the fly depending on opponent and situation.
It’s the most depth we’ve had on Defense since 2017...

We essentially have 3 levels that can be augmented with cross-positional interoperability at nearly every spot.

It’s simply a matter of personnel chess & picking the right piece for the right move in the right moment.

Other than about 3 or 4 guys, the Defense has the least amount of questionable talent & appears to be the best unit of the team overall. The versatility combined with the Defensive Coaching Braintrust of Kevin Steele, Charlie Strong, Eddy O with the DL & DB coaches makes for an opportunity for the Defense to vastly improve & make their way into a top 20 ranking this season.

Eddy O? I see what you did there. Lol

Wanna know what's totally wild?

Look at the kids out of eligibility for 2023. Rique is not, but we all expect him to be gone.

But aside from him, Ivey, Steed, Moultrie, Agude, and Lichtenstein. That's it. Every single other kid, should they so choose, can come back.

So as good as this defense may be this year, and I'm with you, you basically bring everyone back and add in kids like 2nd year Kelly, Moss, Bissainthe, Graves, Rogers, Moten, Harris, the 2023 class with kids like Wayne, etc. and any other kids who we can bring in via the portal. So I went from thinking this unit would be a train wreck to being really optimistic about the defense this year and I think it's really set up to be excellent in 2023, assuming we keep the staff intact.
