Fall Camp 2025 PractiSe 8 - Friday August 8

It's a 5th year kicker brought in for one year to perform one job . If the pads are the differentiator, we probably didn't get the right guy. This isn't 2 underclassmen battling that don't have game tape.
Feels like took a chance on a relief pitcher that’s trying to get his confidence back

Usually a budget move but who knows

It’s not pads being a differentiator, it’s timing. It’s been a 1/4 of camp. If your trying to build the confidence back up for a kid that needs it, I would think the least productive thing to do would be to just hand him the job without proving to himself and team he earned it through scrimmages and weeks of situationals.
The competition consists of walkons and a career kick off specialist. Go ahead and cook.

Just wait till we run it every play for 3.34 ypc we literally will never be stopped

Think About It GIF by Identity
We only need 2.5 ypc.

True forgot to mention them. Basically OL and RB are the only position groups I have confident in. If anyone wants to argue with me on QB remember Beck is coming off major surgery. Obviously he’s talented.
Genuinely asking….Can you name any players in any sport that were high performers before TJ or brace surgery that weren’t after?

Auburn misses inconsistenly, which is the worst thing a kicker can do. It means he doesn't have a consistent way of hitting the ball and tends to overcompensate the tilt that the holder gives you. If you miss all the time in the same direction, it at least means that someone has consistent mechanics.

But that's not entriely his fault. The kicking operation for Texas was a complete ****show last season. Bad snaps, poor holds, wrong timing, atrocious blocking... kicking is 95% mental and 5% physical ability. It's an operation that needs good execution at absolutely every part of the play itself and any issue or botch leads to a miss.

I don't know if he misses in the same direction currently or not. I don't hate the fact that we have a competition for the spot. But Auburn doesn't have a strong leg to begin with, which makes him not good for placekicking.

It dumbfounds me how a college team in South Florida is incapable of recruiting a kicker from high school. Shouldn't happen.
Like my golf game.

Sorry, my friend, but those stats are bull****.

Over four seasons, he did not miss a single extra point. And for NEARLY three seasons, he was a very accurate FG kicker (he did not attempt any FGs as a freshman). 3 of his 9 missed FGs in 2024 came in November. And 4 of those 9 missed FGs came in the post-season games.

That is not to make an excuse. It is to point out that for his ENTIRE CAREER (except for November-December 2024) he was one of the best kickers in all of college football. He is the all-time leading scorer in Texas history.

Something happened. Whether it was physical or mental, he suddenly hit a bad patch in late 2024. But let's not pretend his "inaccuracy" was spread throughout the 2024 year or over his entire career. He was a dominant college kicker until his last few games of 2024.

I don't know whether we can fix him. But he was great in 2022. He was great in 2023. And he was great in September and October of 2024. I hope we can get him back on track, because we don't have a lot of options here.
I respect you, my friend. You make some good points. We agree on some things, especially hoping he straightens out this year for us.

Last year, Texas had a team to win it all. He was a big reason why they didn’t advance and in Nov/Dec is not when you want to be missing FG vs earlier part of the year.

He’s had more kicking opportunities vs Andy but the 40-49 range is not in the same ballpark as Andy’s and it’s very concerning for end of half or end of game 2 minute situations.

I am more worried about the defense in particular safety this year with Thomas and the overall depth. Maybe Bryce Fitzgerald the freshman can step up there at safety.

I think the offense will be solid.

Kicker is a real concern, but come on, 7 pages. The other day, both were either 3 of 4 or 4 of 5 inside the 40. I can't recall which. Auburn was 0-1 and Davis 1 of 2 over 50. It's a competition.
