Fall Camp 2025 PractiSe 8 - Friday August 8

If you expected an open competition to be resolved 1/4 of the way through camp that’s on you. I’ll worry if it’s an issue and problem when the season starts
The point is....there shouldn't be a competition.

Bert Auburn kicked FGs for three seasons at Texas
Carter Davis was a kickoff specialist at FAU. Didn't kick FGs.
Everyone else would be a walk-on

The fact that Bert Auburn hasn't solidified anything tells me he ain't good.

Haven’t commented on this kid because it is what it is and I don’t want to hear any excuses this season.

But it appears that people are concerned with this kid based on his performance last year and the fact that he hasn’t taken the job yet.

I’m sure you are excited about a transfer or 2 based on their previous performance at their previous school that you haven’t seen in a Canes uniform yet. So what’s the difference?
I have said that this guy kicking for us will costs us 1 game this year, but likely 2.

To put it in context, if Auburn was kicking for us last year (not a lot of pressure spots for Borregales) the one game we likely lose (Cam Ward heroics aside) is the Cal game.

Borregales went 1-1 that game with a 46 yarder made.

Based on the stats, Auburn more than likely misses that kick. We won 39-38. His kicking % from that range is scary as ****!

The one gimme that Borregales ever missed was when he was a freshman which led to Manny getting fired so in my book, he never missed 😂😂

Big Bad Bert in 2024:

- 16/25...64% (105th nationally)
- 6/11 between 40-49yds
- 0-2 50+ yds
- SEC Champ game...4/6
- Benched against Taint in CFPO
- Drove Sark into 3-week drinking bender where he ****ed a dolphin in an alleyway
What was his percentage on kicks under 40?

If he can hit those, that leaves a pretty small window of gray area where maybe we just go for it on 4th unless its extremely unfavorable down/distance.

Pretty simple in my eyes:

anything under 40 kick the field goal assuming Auburn isn’t totally broken.

Anything over 40: weigh the options of going for it depending on down and distance or playing field position…. If our corner portal haul elevates our defense as well as if our d line plays to standard I'm in the field position approach

We need the Aussie kicker to elevate his game. Last year was so so

This may be a good time to remind you Cristobal is still the coach….

You’re shouting again Bert. Told you to stop eating gd cookies in the bed, Ernie

Funny because we had that walk on kicker from 2 years ago who played a bit and his friends sat behind me for games that year and all they talked about was how much coke he did.
Camden Price he was suspended in 2019 for his little habit before he won the job from the two useless bums ahead of him.

It's not good if the K battle is "tight" because one guy is a highly experienced kicker from Texas, another guy has never been a FG kicker and the rest would be walk-ons.

Trash
I posted a breakdown a while back but Auburn’s issue at kicker is when he’s behind 40 yards. Money inside that and has never missed an XO. From 40-49 he was 50/50 last year, and beyond 50 he didn’t hit a thing.

Confidence is a big thing with this guy, we need to instill it and he needs to be serviceable. To put it into perspective, we lose to VT and Cal last year if Borregales doesn’t make FG’s beyond 40 in this games.

Sorry, my friend, but those stats are bull****.

Over four seasons, he did not miss a single extra point. And for NEARLY three seasons, he was a very accurate FG kicker (he did not attempt any FGs as a freshman). 3 of his 9 missed FGs in 2024 came in November. And 4 of those 9 missed FGs came in the post-season games.

That is not to make an excuse. It is to point out that for his ENTIRE CAREER (except for November-December 2024) he was one of the best kickers in all of college football. He is the all-time leading scorer in Texas history.

Something happened. Whether it was physical or mental, he suddenly hit a bad patch in late 2024. But let's not pretend his "inaccuracy" was spread throughout the 2024 year or over his entire career. He was a dominant college kicker until his last few games of 2024.

I don't know whether we can fix him. But he was great in 2022. He was great in 2023. And he was great in September and October of 2024. I hope we can get him back on track, because we don't have a lot of options here.

It's a 5th year kicker brought in for one year to perform one job . If the pads are the differentiator, we probably didn't get the right guy. This isn't 2 underclassmen battling that don't have game tape.
It’s not pads being a differentiator, it’s timing. It’s been a 1/4 of camp. If your trying to build the confidence back up for a kid that needs it, I would think the least productive thing to do would be to just hand him the job without proving to himself and team he earned it through scrimmages and weeks of situationals.

How on God's great big beautiful green and blue earth do we not have a kicker at the University of Miami? My word, we have a direct line to South America. No Argentinian or Brazilian or Chilean kid interested in kicking a football? WTF? Major GD failure.
