Emory Williams is our QB 1 Next Season

Frank Ponce took his QB board from App State and just applied it to Miami.

He was far from a top option, however. Our top 2 pursued QBs were Nico Iamaleava and Dante Moore. Moore’s favorite school was Oregon and Mario had started building a relationship with the family prior to making the switch to Miami. Mario offered him immediately after the switch. Gattis was also recruiting him at Michigan. Moore visited us in January and in March.

Nico visited Miami in January; Cristobal also offered him immediately after getting the job. He would commit to Tennessee in March and openly stated that Miami was his second choice; & that Mario made it really close at the end.

Moore also wanted to play as a freshman so that could’ve either caused us to let TVD out the door to Alabama or had him flip to UCLA & Chip Kelly like he did on Oregon after Bo Nix announced he was returning.

Nevertheless, after Nico committed to Tennessee and Josh Gattis was hired in February, we honed in on Moore as our guy while also recruiting Jaden Rashada, with Emory supposed to be the QB2 of the class. On June 1st, 2022, Moore’s dad said there was better than a 50/50 chance his son ended up at The U.

Wouldn't have anywhere near the same peak that we have. But with schedules like this it would've been pretty similar results.

At some point the game was going to be on his shoulders and he isn't good enough plain and simple. Dude struggled to complete basic easy throws in games

Was a big fan of Moore at the time, rarely look at high school film but his was very good.. Wondered what happened there, this makes sense..
 
Emory was always going to be a practice arm who would be a good locker room/grades kid.

Not mad at him…. Only reason he saw time was because TVD couldn’t read zone coverage.

Look at the names being discussed here and where they landed. Emory was the only one was intended to be a backup.

Emory Williams is the reason I don’t believe what anyone says about practice players anymore.

All I heard was how he hit every target in drills and that he was the next Ken Dorsey. Then I saw him play against a real opponent (not mop-up duty against some bum team. Jake Garcia even looked good doing that.) He just does not have what it takes to be a starting quarterback in FBS. It’s nothing personal. Kid played hard and by all accounts is a good dude but my friends love me and would never expect me to be able to play quarterback.

I thought the Pop Tart bowl was the end of the saga but apparently we had to wait until he couldn’t win the job at ECU to finally close the book here.
 
I get that QB2's are backups for a reason, but I have always said we needed to elevate this room. If, God forbid, something were to ever happen to a future starter, we're a strong enough program that we should always have a guy who could come in and still get us to Charlotte. I don't think we have that right now
 
The Emory hysteria here was legendary.. Coaches loved his attitude and work ethic but knew once they had the budget for top portal guys he was never gonna be the full time starter here. Good kid, not up the level to play for a contender. Hope he gets a chance at ECU.

Not disagreeing but who does though? Luke Nickel was/is a much better prospect than say a Tait Reynolds at Clemson

Seems like Moore was showing everybody love (A&M, LSU, Oregon, ND, and us) so hard to really gauge how much of a real top choice we were even with his father’s comments; and what the staff felt like (paging Brooklyndee and D$) on Moore vs Rashada as prospects; the communication between the two camps and us. Kelly was previously at ND so he had a built-in relationship with Moore’s family as well.

Moore didn’t make a move until his options started dwindling down. Additionally, it appears Miami just went for Rashada without waiting to see what Moore would do. Moore gave a quote, right before Emory and Jaden committed, that his process was moving slowly because he was still in school and once his school year ends, the NCAA dead period starts.

Not mentioned in this post below is Gattis’ hiring was seen as helping Moore delay his commitment to ND.

Pretty interesting domino-style turn of events here; a bit similar to us and how we landed on Izzy instead of Will Mencl.

Oregon was fine with either Moore or Johnson; Johnson committed to Kansas State before Moore committed to Oregon; a big selling point being Colin Klein as the OC/QB coach.

Colin Klein coaches Will Howard and Avery Johnson for one season before going to A&M; and after two seasons in College Station is now the HC w/ Avery Johnson at qb.

Similarly, Kenny Dillingham getting the Arizona State job caused Dante Moore to flip to UCLA; similarly to how Dylan Raiola transferring in to Oregon alongside Will Stein leaving to UK caused Bryson Beaver to transfer to UGA after early enrolling at Oregon ten days before in January of this year.

I always look at OSU. Let’s say Sayin got hurt week 4 last year. They still make the b10 championship with Kienholz. Obviously if they had played Indiana or Oregon in the regular season, it would have maybe been different. However, they played no competition.


The days of comparing our roster to the rest of the ACC should be over. We’re in the big leagues now. Comparing Nickel to Clemsons backup doesn’t make me feel any better about our room. Clemson stinks. The talent gap between us and the rest of the acc is huge

My point was we should always have a backup who is talented enough to b a low power 4 or even a group of 5 starter

Oh for sure I wasn’t being argumentative just throwing it out there. I have the displeasure of knowing many people at OSU within the program

If you asked them, they worry about the same things we do (QB depth/OL depth/ they actually complain about their DT spot a lot)

But that’s just football talk

To your point I think we can all agree we are finally headed in the right direction. Tough to create a good depth chart at QB with NIL/portal but the Nickel/Coleman/Abrams trend is gonna give us a good chance to be successful
