Does anyone believe this OL is elite?

Baumann and bell with weak *** blocking

Literally I wouldn't even play Bauman and Lofton much at all at this point. Gilbert and Schott need PT. Put samson as the 6th man when we're trying to go big with an inline TE. Literally can't be worse. Not like we're running any play action. We know we're running in that situation. The Defense knows we're running. The fans know we're running. Whats the point on continuosly failing with Bauman and Lofton to make their blocks? Just put Samson at inline TE, and everyone else split out.

I agree with pancake outside. Put Cici at OG and I think you might get a little stronger in the middle which is what the coaches really want. Might not have that steep of a drop off at RT, especially if the run game starts to open up.
I’ve been thinking about that a good bit the past few weeks. If you’re going to be as dead set on running up the middle, just move Mauigoa inside (where he projects anyway) and bolster that aspect. Unless you just don’t trust Samson/McCoy/Kinsler to play tackle.

Elite lol what a joke they are. This OL isn't in the top 20 in college football. You must take into account the numerous penalties and this OL is TRASH!

The pass blocking might be the best there is. The penalties and run blocking kill them

Everyone talks about our NFL talent on the line… but if Rivers was a 5th round pick and Lee went 7th… I don’t know that I would draft any of these guys besides Cici.

Ehhh Bell is a very good left tackle, especially as a pass blocker…He's gonna get drafted, possibly high. Has he given up a sack all year?

Great pass blocker but mediocre run blocker and commits a lot of mental mistakes. He’s not overly physical and maintains poor leverage at times.

Nope, pass blocking they are good not elite. A few weak links on the oline is affecting some of these plays however. Run blocking they aren’t good

On this play, Bell took on the role of 1 tech DT and clogged a running lane by himself, barely touched anyone.

Not only did Dawson run 6 vs. 9, but he also motioned Toney across, bringing a 10th defender into the box. It doesn't matter what Bell or Cooper does, there are too many bodies to block!

Yep... play call was terrible.... We saw the same thing last year with Guidry...Once an opposing CoOrdinator knows what you're gonna do before you do, you're cooked.... Dawson Been getting cooked lately... Is it per Mario's instruction?? I dunno but it's not working and once again we're heading into late season collapse territory....

They are way better at pass blocking than run blocking. You might be able to make an argument they are excellent at pass protection BUT I think to be elite you should be able to do both and we are mediocre at run blocking. We don't do them any favors...as a matter of fact we seem to purposely make more difficult. Regardless they get stuffed way too often by way less talented DL to be elite.
Thank you for a rational reply.

I think they're probably pretty darn good but repeatedly trying to play within a phone booth makes them look worse than they are.

Brockmeyer may not be Gaynor bad but he’s on par with Jakai Clark and an obvious step down from Carpenter who was a step or 2 behind Lee. Cooper has regressed each of the last 2 years and I’m seeing chinks in Francis armor.
No need for the racism.

I said weeks ago it was overrated as ****. Solid to good group but nothing like you’re being told . The left side is actually mediocre.
I agree, but I think OP’s question misses the point contained in your response.

The Oline is GOOD ENOUGH to win the games we’ve lost.

Our scared philosophy, lame predictable offense, plus the uncanny ability to shoot ourselves in the foot gives us zero chance to do anything meaningful as the season progresses.

Lines are good enough. Skill positions are good enough. Our guys can play ball. Pick a unit and they’re all good enough to win 3 of the last 3.

This **** is brutal man. Tough being a Cane.

The same tight splits people hate are the same ones that make us good in pass pro

If we change the tight splits the OL regresses in pass pro

These guys aren’t somehow better at pass than run it’s how the offense is set up it’s built in to protect them

Speaking of Samson, didn't we use him as an in-line TE last year and jersey change him? We did it a lot, IIRC. This year, we keep insisting on 87/9 being integral run game blockers when neither is. Heck, we loved using WRs on those wham blocks at the LOS.
